Kottschade, Ruth Theresa

Ruth Theresa Kottschade, 80, of 1370D McNally Dr., Winona, MN. died Friday, February 22, 2002 at her home.

Ruth was born in Theilman, MN. on September 9, 1921 to Edward A. and Hattie C. (Theilman) Kottschade.

Ruth received her 2 year teaching certificate from Winona Teachers College in 1940. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1952 from Winona State Teachers College and her master's degree in 1958 from Winona State College.

She first taught in a country school on Homer Ridge of Winona County for three years. Then, for the next 39 years she taught in room #108 at Madison Elementary School in Winona, retiring in 1984. After retiring she did volunteer work in the R.S.V.P., a senior education program.

Ruth was a member of and active in many organizations including First Congregational Church of Winona, its Quilters Group, Women's Fellowship and Mission Committees. She is a member of Winona Retired Teachers Assoc.; Member since 1947 and historian for A.A.U.W.; Delta Kappa Gamma; Winona County Historical Society, of which she was a long time volunteer; Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; Winona State University Foundation; Winona Public Schools Foundation; and is a Past State President of the Association of Childhood Education in Minnesota.

Ruth was quoted in "Lifetimes" a publication of Winona State University saying, "There isn't anything more satisfying than giving to help someone who needs it, in order to carry out a life's work."

She is survived by a special friend and caregiver, Teri Verbeet of Bodfish, CA. Other survivors are Ruth's many good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother George in 2001.

Funeral Services for Ruth were Tuesday, February 26th at First Congregational Church, Winona, MN., Rev. Rick King officiating.

Interment was in St. Paul's cemetery, Theilman, MN.

Memorial gifts may be given to WSU Foundation; Winona Public Schools Foundation; Winona Hospice of Winona Health; First Congregational Church; St. Paul's U.C.C., Theilman, MN.; or the United Church of Christ, Wabasha, MN.

Arrangements by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Eichhorst, Richard A. "Dick"

Richard A. "Dick" Eichhorst, 77, of 355 Elm St., Winona, MN., died Friday, February 22, 2002, at Fairview Seminary Nursing Home, Red Wing, MN.

Dick was born in Mount Vernon Township of Winona County on April 4, 1924 to Richard A. and Verna (Milbrandt) Eichhorst. On Sept. 18, 1948 he married June M. Schultz at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Winona.

Dick first worked in a creamery in Altura, then in Sleepy Eye, MN. He was the first employee of Fiberite in Winona. Dick was assigned work by Fiberite in Delano, PA. for 18 years where he was the plant manager. also for 6 years in Tempe, AZ. as an engineer for Fiberite.

Dick and June lived in Conyngham, PA. and Chandler, AZ. before moving back to Winona in 1997.

After retiring he did volunteer work for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chandler, AZ.

Since then, Dick has been an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Winona, MN.

He loved his friends and had a positive attitude. He also loved fishing in Minnesota. He believed that if you can't do something right, then don't do it at all.

Dick is survived by his wife June; sons, Gary (Gloria) of Hazelton, Penn., and Randy (Susan) of Drums, Penn.; six grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Henry, Arden Hills, Minn., Catherine Arnoldy, Wayzata, Minn., LeAnn (Ruben) Ellinghuysen, Winona, and Marie (Vern) Mattson, Rochester, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Allen and Henry

Funeral Services for Dick were Tuesday, February 26 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Winona, Rev. William Flesch officiating. Inurnment was in Woodlawn cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Patterson, David D., Sr.

David DeConly Patterson was born on July 8, 1917 in Scottsbluff, Neb., to Frank B. and Neva Wyman (Palmer) DeConly and passed away on February 17, 2002 in Seward, Neb., at the age of 84.

Dave was a graduate of East St. Louis, Illinois High School and later attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO., and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in East St. Louis.

Dave was a general foreman of a steel foundry, as well as a licensed real estate broker. For many years Dave was a self-employed inventor.

On December 27, 1950, David was married to Doris Lee Wilson. They lived for a short time in East St. Louis and then moved to Seward, where they spent the remainder of their life together.

Dave was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Seward, a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Washington University in St. Louis, and Odd Fellows. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Preceding Dave in death were his parents, Frank B. DeConly, Albert R. and Neva (Palmer) Patterson, his daughter, Priscilla "Peep" Daniel, his grandson, Andrew Patterson, and his sister, Patricia Dunphy.

David is survived by his wife, Doris W. Patterson of Seward; three children and their families, daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Jeffrey Prenatt of Winona, and children, Jenny and Art Kalmes and their children, Matt, Hannah and Jane Pamela; Tom Jordan "Jordy" and Tina Casperson and their children, Anna and Sarah; Amy Priscilla Casperson; Charles David and Angie Casperson; Jennifer Prenatt; Peep's children, Charles "Guzzie" and Karen Hamill; Heidi and Philip Howeth and their children, Piper and Priscilla Ann; Robert Wolfgang Daniel; son and daughter-in-law, Al and LeeAnn Patterson of Seward and son, Jeff Patterson; son and daughter-in-law, David and Jane Patterson of Santa Barbara, Cal. and their children, Cole, Connor and Claire Patterson; former wife, Anne Driemeyer Ferguson of Winona; other relatives and a host of friends.

Dave's life touched many people in the United States and Canada. Dave, affectionately known as "Poppo, " was a second father to many kids as they grew up. To this obituary we add our many thoughts, prayers, and memories of life shared with Dave.

Memorials may be directed to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Seward, Neb., or Meals on Wheels in Seward.

Burmeister, Juliette "Dolly"

Juliette "Dolly" Burmeister, 78, of 406 High Forest St., died Monday, February 25, 2002 in the Intensive Care Unit of Community Memorial Hospital.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

Martin-Myhre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Engel, Linda A.

Linda A. Engel, 98, Fountain City, Wis., died Monday, January 28, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

Linda was born in Bohri's Valley of Buffalo County, Wis., on April 5, 1903 to Henry and Emma (Schroeder) Klein. She married Ervin Engel in Fountain City on May 4, 1927. He died July 9, 1979.

She and her husband farmed on Buffalo Ridge of Buffalo County from 1927-1929. They then moved to Waumandee, Wis. and farmed there until 1950 when they moved back to Fountain City. Linda enjoyed gardening and sewing.

She is a member of St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church of Fountain City.

Linda is survived by a son-in-law, John A. Reiter of Fountain City; a sister, Marian Wendt of Fountain City; seven nieces and nephews, Lois (Gene) Frank of Winona, Clarwin (Edna) Engel of Winona, Morris (Judy) Marsolek of River Falls, Wis., Margaret (Ralph) Onsager of Brookfield, Wis., Donald (Maria) Marsolek of Overland Park, KS, Allen (Kathy) Engel of Dresbach, Minn., and Ruth (John) Holty of Wabasha, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Lorraine Reiter, one brother, Dr. Martin Klein, seven sisters, Clara Mertes, Elsie Jestus, Esther Marsolek, Velma Blue, Mildred Glowacki, Vernice Schroeder, Emma Engel, and three infant sisters.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 31, at 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fountain City, with Rev. Elroy V. Conradt officiating. Spring burial will be in Fountain City Public cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday, January 30 from 5-8 p.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home in Fountain City, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and on Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.

Casketbearers will be Clarwin, Allen, Tony and Randy Engel, Darrel McCutchen and Edward Aldinger.

Honorary bearers are Jesse Veraguth, Gene Frank, Morris Marsolek, Michael Aus, Joseph Greshik, Sr. and William Wojchik.

Memorials may be directed to the Organ Fund at St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fountain City.

Lehnertz, Leona M.

Leona M. Lehnertz, 95, died Monday, January 28, 2002 at the Sauer Memorial Home in Winona where she had been a resident for the past five years. She was formerly of Rollingstone, Minn.

Leona was born March 13, 1906 to Theodore and Josephine (Siebenaler) Hayertz. She married Edmund M. Lehnertz on October 29, 1924 in Altura, Minn. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1947.

Leona was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and a devoted homemaker who will be fondly remembered for her warm and gentle smile and her love of embroidering, playing cards and quilting.

Leona is survived by six children, Annabelle Plein of Altura, Minn., Francis Lehnertz of Rollingstone, Minn., Rosemary (Donald) Speltz of Rollingstone, Eugene (Arlene) Lehnertz of Plainview, Minn., Catherine (Robert) Lewis of Pleasant Hill, Cal., and Charles (Rita) Lehnertz of Winona; thirty-seven grandchildren; sixty-eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond, two sisters, Gertrude and Loretta, two sons, Edward and Gerald and five grandchildren, Geri, Deborah, Mary, Gregory and Jeffrey.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 1, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rollingstone, with Rev. Edward McGrath officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at Holy Trinity Church on Thursday from 4-8 p.m., where there will be a Christian Prayer Service at 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Leona's grandsons.

Leona will be sadly missed and forever loved.

Hoff Funeral Homes - St. Charles Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
