Fabian, Ruby W.

Ruby W. Fabian, 85, of 456 East Sarnia, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Houston County, Minn. on January 11, 1917 to Gustav and Alvina (Redman) Albrecht. On March 23, 1935 she married Emil W. Fabian in Winona. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1992.

They farmed together in the Witoka area from 1935 until retiring in 1973.

Ruby is a member of St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church in Pickwick, Minn. She is a past member of Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Arvin (Janice) of Lanesboro, Minn., Gary (Nancy) of Rochester, Minn., and Scott (Barbara), Sharon (Leon) Budnick, and Shelly (Dave) Berhow, all of Winona; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, Wilfred Albrecht of Rollingstone, Minn.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 30 at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home with Rev. Galen Riediger of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Bush cemetery, Ridgeway, Minn.

Casketbearers were Steven and Richard Walsky, Tony Blumentritt, Ron Fabian, Jeff Kanz and Michael Albrecht.

Honorary casketbearers are 12 grandchildren: Wendy Plantz, Lisa, Kate and John Fabian, Brian Budnick, Brenda Kanz, Shannon and Shaun Berhow, Natalie Rhodes, Nicole and Erich Fabian, Rachel Fabian, great-grandchildren, Joel Kanz and Emily Plantz; and great-great-granddaughter, Madison Taylor Kanz.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church or Lake Winona Manor.

Julson-Poeschel, Joan F.

Joan F. Julson-Poeschel, 65, of rural Mondovi, Wis., died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, Wis.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in rural Mondovi, with Rev. David Bangert officiating. Burial was in East Bennett Valley cemetery

Sutter, Merton V.

Merton V. Sutter, 84, of Fountain City, Wis., passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

He was born June 5, 1917, on the Sutter family farm in the Town of Buffalo, Buffalo County, Wis., to John and Hattie (Wendt) Sutter, where he lived his entire life.

He graduated from Fountain City High School and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On September 13, 1949 he married Delores Glander at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fountain City.

Merton was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and a charter member of the Fountain City Farm Fest Lions Club. He served for many years as chairman of the Town of Buffalo and as Vice-President of the Buffalo County Board.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Delores; eight children, Merton, Jr., Mary (Michael) Aus, John, Faye Strelow (Ron Novak), Gary (Kathy) Sutter, Lisa (Daryl) Schmitt, all of Fountain City, Carol (Tom) Grant and Heidi (Kevin) Wachowiak of Winona; and nine grandchildren, Kimberly Aus, Chad and Tim Grant, Derek Strelow, Brittany and Bethany Schmitt, Erik Sutter, and Jordan and Katie Wachowiak.

Merton was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Muriel Haeussinger.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 30, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fountain City, with Rev. Fritz West officiating. Burial was in Fountain City Public cemetery.

Pallbearers were Christopher, Kevin and Patrick Glander, Dennis Kennebeck, Brett Meier and Lonnie Sass.

Honorary pallbearers were Merlin Sutter, Galen Tullius, John Reiter, Ed Schlesser, Jesse Heuer and Richard Suhr.

Memorials may be directed to St. John's United Church of Christ in Fountain City.

Kieffer, Margaret H.

The Funeral Mass for Margaret H. Kieffer will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba, Minn., with Father Donald Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Kieffer, 74, of Elba, a retired U.S. West Communications employee, died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., following a lengthy illness. Her family was at her bedside.

Margaret Helen Kautz was born January 15, 1928 in Pine Island, Minn., to Arthur W. and Helen C. (Murray) Kautz. She attended St. John's Catholic School in Rochester, Minn. On August 24, 1954 she married Edward A. Kieffer in Rochester.

They lived and farmed in the Elba area. Margaret worked as a telephone operator and supervisor with Northwestern Bell throughout her career. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Telephone Pioneers. She spent time teaching religion, playing bingo and traveling. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family, as she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a kind and generous person and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Edward A. Kieffer of Elba, Minn.; four sons, Gerald, Kevin and Tim, all of Elba, and Bruce of Plainview, Minn.; five daughters, Londa (Mrs. Lonnie) Virning of Elba, Lynne (Mrs. Dan) Moldenhauer of Lakeville, Minn., Tamara (Mrs. Tim) Murphy of Elba, Beth (Mrs. Tom) Iverson of Elba, and Barbara (Mrs. Michael) Johnson of Elba; twenty-four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Kelley of Hammond, Minn.; and four brothers, John "Jack" (Cecelia) Kautz of Peoria, Ariz., William (Patricia) Kautz of Rochester, Kenneth (Rose Ann) Kautz of Zumbro Falls, Minn., and Richard (Jane) Kautz of Rochester.

Her parents, a brother, Don, a sister, Ruth Preble, and a daughter, Victoria preceded her in death.

Casketbearers will be Jason Kieffer, Joseph Kieffer, Keith Kieffer, Trenton Kieffer, Bradley Murphy, Andrew Kieffer and Scott Ball.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, Nicole, Aimee, Alexas, Krystal, Melissa, Morgan, Isaak, Brooke, Kearston, Cole, Mike, Melissa, Stephanie, Katie, Brittany, Courtnay, Tanner, Ashley and Mackenzie.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, April 1, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, Plainview, Minn., and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. A rosary will be at 4 p.m. on Monday at the Funeral Home.

Schleicher Funeral Homes is assisting with the arrangements.

Palubicki, David H.

David H. Palubicki, 85, of 811 East Mark St., died Saturday, April 22, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 10, 1914 in Winona to Henry G. and Mary (Kunda) Palubicki. He married Dorothy E. Breed on August 30, 1947 in St. Paul, MN.

He was employed at Bloedow Bakery until his retirement.

David was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish. He was a member of the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Neville-Lien Post #1287, and Disabled Veterans Hiawatha Chapter #35.

David was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sharing his fishing stories.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Winona; one stepson, Raymond (Margaret) Sultze, Winona; one stepdaughter, Dorothy Ann (Martin) Marquardt, Cedar Rapids, IA; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Palubicki, St. Paul, MN and Stanley (Carol) Palubicki, Winona; two sisters, Grace Hasselfeldt, Pebble Beach, CA and Celia (Joseph) Grain, Pacific Grove, CA; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Palubicki, Winona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Eugene, Henry and Frank.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 25 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church with Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Burial was in Fort Snelling National cemetery.

The VFW provided military honors at the church following the Funeral Mass.

Members of the VFW served as pallbearers.

Wilson, Richard H.

Richard H. "Dick" Wilson, 74, Winona, died Friday, April 21, 2000 at the Sauer Memorial Home.

Dick was born in Marshall, MN, on January 16, 1926 to Benjamin H. and Anna Marie Wing Wilson. He married Eunice B. Michael on June 30, 1949 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Albany, MN.

He came to Winona in 1967 from Austin, MN. For 32 years Dick was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone, retiring in 1983 as a construction supervisor.

He is a World War II Naval veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific theatre and also the European African campaigns.

Dick is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion Post #9, Winona, Eagles Aerie #1243, Winona, Westfield Golf Club, Telephone Pioneers, and is a Past Commander and life member of VFW Post #1287, Winona.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice; a son, Michael (Martha) Wilson of Chula Vista, CA; a daughter, Cheryl Maddox of Littleton, CO; grandchildren: Andrea, Brian and Cynthia Wilson, Jesse and Scott Maddox, and Brandye Cash; his mother-in-law, Iona Michael of St. Cloud, MN, brothers, Marvin (Joan) Wilson, Goodview, MN, Glen (Peggy) Wilson, Wilmer, MN, Ronald (Linda) Wilson, Marshall, MN and Michael Wilson, Rock Island, IL; and sisters, Doris (Ed) Dandurand, of Klamath Falls, OR and twin sisters, Marie (Dave) Walters of Amarette, MN and Mary Eatros of Estero, FL.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dale and Jerry and a half brother Rueben Obe.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Keefe officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery where members of VFW Post #1287 conducted military burial rites.

Memorials may be directed to Winona Area Hospice or St. Mary's Church.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

Valle-Gonzales, Faustino "Pedro"

Faustino "Pedro" Valle-Gonzales, 48, of 672 East Wabasha St., died Friday, April 21, 2000 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, WI.

He was born in Arquisa, Cuba on September 6, 1951 and came to the United States in May of 1980.

Pedro worked as a finisher at Winona Canoe and also as a food preparer for Chula Vista Restaurant in Winona.

Pedro is survived by his parents, brothers and sisters, all of Cuba; special friends, Manuel, Christine and Jose Fajardo of Winona and Marcos Calderon, of Rochester, MN; and his many work associates, especially Phil Schofield of Winona.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasant Valley Ev. Free Church with Rev. Rick Iglesias officiating.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
