Newell, Matthew John
Matthew John Newell, 42, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Formerly of Edina, MN, Matt was born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1958.
Matt was a graduate of Our Lady of Grace, Benilde-St. Margaret's High School, where he received 12 letters in varsity sports and was a champion foosball player. Matt graduated from the University of St. Thomas and attended Western Washington University where he was a champion lacrosse player.
Matt focused his professional efforts on the travel industry and enjoyed golf, water skiing, and playing pool. Matt was a tennis team captain, an avid athlete and he had a competitive spirit.
He is survived by his loving life partner, Kim Heise and their beautiful daughter Sabrina; his parents, Jack and Mary Newell; and his siblings, Britton Newell, Mary Beth Brenner, Stephen, Michael, Martha (Terry) Fairbanks and Katie (Bart) Wallace; eight loving nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of very special relatives and friends. A special thanks from the family goes out to Matt's employer George Wozniak and all the employees of Hobbit Travel for their incredible support throughout Matt's battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 26 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Fakler, Marie E.
Marie E. Fakler, 90, died Sunday, April 23, 2000 at Sauer Memorial Home, where she had been a resident for eleven years.
Marie was born February 16, 1910 in Winona, to Emil and Anna (Bruhn) Paape, Sr. She graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1927. She was married
to Fred Fakler on November 11, 1931 in Winona.
She was the Secretary-Treasurer of Fakler Road Construction and worked at Community Memorial Hospital.
She is a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Altar Guild and Women's Guild. She was also a member of Sauer Memorial Home Auxiliary.
She is survived by sons, Paul (Qumei) of Lewiston and Gordon (Theresa) of Winona; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 26 at 3 p.m. at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ronald Dommer officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home.
Casketbearers will be Gregory, Brian, Jeff and Bradley Fakler, Paul Larson and Seth Frick.

Miller, Betty Ann
Betty Ann Miller of 1 Knollwood Lane, Winona, died Sunday, April 23, 2000 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee, KS.
Arrangements are pending.
Wille, Bonnie Lou
Bonnie Lou Wille, 61, died of leukemia on Friday, December 22, 2000 at Season's Hospice, Rochester, Minn.
She was born May 24, 1939 to Elmer and Nona (Niegenfind) Wille in Chatfield, Minn., and lived in Spring Valley and Rochester all her life.
She was employed in housekeeping at Methodist Hospital in Rochester for 35 years.
Survivors include cousins and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Burial will be in Pierce, Neb.
Bell, Gertrude Prondzinski
Gertrude Prondzinski Bell, 85, a resident of the Watkins Home and formerly of Winhaven Court, died suddenly at the Watkins Home on Tuesday, December 19, 2000.
She was born September 28, 1915 in Latsch Valley, rural Dodge, Wis., to Joseph and Anastasia (Stanislawski) Prondzinski. She married
George J. Dzwonkowski (Bell) on June 26, 1946 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Winona. They were later divorced. He died in April 1982.
She was employed for many years at the Marshall Wells Hardware Store in Winona. When residing in Orlando, Fla., she worked at King's Village for seven years. When Gertrude returned to Winona, she was employed by Saint Teresa's Food Service, from which h she retired. Gertrude loved to cook and bake.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Georgiana Prondzinski of Buffalo City, Wis.; three nieces; two nephews; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Leo and Alvin.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday, December 26, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. John M. Sauer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerome and Roger Bambenek, James and Robert Stanislawski, and Francis and Vincent Cisewski.
Memorials are preferred to the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church or to the Watkins Home.

Dienger, Willard J.
Willard J. Dienger, 74, of Rushford died Friday, December 22, 2000, in rural Peterson.
He was born on September 5, 1926 in Buffalo County, Wisconsin to Lester and Mary Dienger. He grew up in the Nelson and Durand, Wisconsin area. He worked for Fiberite in Winona for 37 years. Willard moved to Rushford in 1987 where he lived the remainder of his life.
He is survived by one daughter: Lynda (Eugene) Burt of Rushford; four grandchildren: Eugene Burt, Shannon Burt, Brandi Klungtvedt, and Amber Burt; four great grandchildren: Tasha Hanson, Skyler Hanson, Shaytala Burt, and Tre Klungtvedt; one sister Dorothy Halling of Durand, Wisconsin; and a very special friend, Julie Sveen.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at Hoff Funeral Homes Cook Rushford Chapel with the Rev. Robert Drier officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Oak Grove City cemetery. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Kilian, Leo J.
Leo J. Kilian, 91, of North Mankato, Minn. and formerly of Winona, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 12 at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Charles Ortloff officiating. Interment was in Barnard's Valley View cemetery in rural Good Thunder, Minn. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Leo was born October 21, 1909 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Phillip and Katherine (Holzfaster) Kilian. He grew up and attended parochial and public schools in Council Bluffs. Leo was united in marriage to Emma G. Lang on April 7, 1931 in Winona.
He did many minor jobs in his late teens when he went to work in South Dakota at the Interstate Packing Co. He was transferred to Winona, as a bookkeeper for the company. Swift and Company bought out Interstate Packing Co. and he then became a hog buyer. He was transferred to Mankato in 1951, then to Good Thunder and then back to Winona in 1967.
Leo was a life member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, fishing, traveling and eating cookies.
Mr. Kilian is survived by his wife, Emma of North Mankato; three daughters, Marilyn Barnard and Charles "Bud" of Good Thunder, Minn., Karen Slipy of North Mankato, and Linda Groth and her husband, Kenneth of Roseville, Minn.; one son, Steven Kilian and his wife, Janet of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Duitman of Melvern, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Grace Brandt of Elmhurst, Ill.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and his stepfather.

Johnson, Lynn W.
Lynn W. Johnson, 68, Rollingstone, Minn., died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at his home.
Lynn Walter Johnson was born January 27, 1933 to Walter and Clara (Blackman) Johnson in Minneapolis, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On November 27, 1965 he married
Anne Winters in Minneapolis.
Lynn had worked for Pure Oil in the Twin Cities prior to moving to Rollingstone in 1968. He had been a manager at Great Lakes Manufacturing in Winona and retired from Boelter Industries in 1997.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Winona Elks Club, and will be remembered for being an avid fisherman and gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Anne; a son, Jeffrey Johnson of Plymouth, Minn.; and his mother-in-law, Grace Winters of Rollingstone.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 14 at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Dumke officiating. Burial was in Holy Trinity cemetery in Rollingstone. Following his wishes, his body was cremated and there was no reviewal.

Myhre, Arnold H.
Arnold H. Myhre, 94, Spring Grove, Minn., died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the Tweeten Lutheran Health Care Center in Spring Grove.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, with Rev. Jim Arends officiating. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran cemetery, Spring Grove.
