Edward C. Barbo

Edward C. Barbo, 88, of East Fourth Street died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.

He was born in Duluth and lived here most of his life while spending the winter months of the last 23 years in Florida. He worked as an engineer for Butler Shipyards during World War II and then for M. Cooke and Sons Clothing Store and McGregor Soderstrom before purchasing Columbia Clothing in 1953. After 37 years, he sold Columbia to his son, Ed Barbo Jr., in 1990. Mr. Barbo was a founding father of First Lutheran Church and was an initial trustee for St. Luke's Hospital. He was also past president of the board of directors of Goodwill Industries and Downtown Retail Merchants Association and had been a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club. He was an active hockey enthusiast as a member of the UMD Blueline Club and was a lifetime member of the Elks. He belonged to Glen Avon Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite-Valley of Duluth and the Aad Temple Shrine.

Some of Ed's favorite times were spent in Iron River, Wis., where he and his family enjoyed cabin life for more than 40 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward and Olga Barbo; a sister, Louise McGill; and his first wife, Violet M. Barbo, who died in 1978.

Surviving are his wife, Carroll; children Judy Ann (Chuck) Barber and Edward (Candace) Barbo, both of Duluth; a sister, Betty Barbo Welles of Edina, Minn.; stepchildren Sue Norberg, Peter (Pat) Stephenson of Pittsburgh, Sara (Tom) Logergren of Grand Rapids and Timothy (Debra) Stephenson of Duluth; grandchildren Todd (Cathy) Johnson, Heidi (Kraig) Rudstrom, Dean (Laura) Johnson, Shane, Richy and Brady Johnson, Kelly and Kari Barbo; nine step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service Wednesday in First Lutheran Church, 1100 E. Superior St. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Family prefers memorials. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 E. Fourth St.

Shelley Rae (Kleppe) Lesemann

Shelley Rae (Kleppe) Lesemann, 28, of Chestnut Street, Cloquet, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in her parents' home in Duluth after a long illness.

Shelley was born in Little Fork, Minn., June 26, 1972. She had lived in Duluth since 1987 and for the past year in Cloquet. Shelley graduated from Proctor High School in 1990. Shelley Kleppe married Jim M. on July 27, 1995, in Duluth. She was a member of the Tuesday Incliners and the Sky Queen Bowling Leagues. Shelley loved the outdoors, four-wheeling, bird hunting, ice fishing and bowling.

Shelley was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Walter and Mary Jane Kleppe.

Surviving are her maternal grandparents, Robert and Betty McBride of International Falls; her great-grandmother, Leona Armit of Fort Francis, Ontario; her mother and father, Debbie K. and Keith Kleppe of Duluth; her husband, Jim M. of Cloquet; a sister, Cindy K. (Brian) Timm and a nephew, Connor Timm of Proctor.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday in Bell Brothers Chapel and 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Proctor. Inurnment in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Saima Agnes Henderson

Saima Agnes Henderson, 80, of West Sixth Street died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital.

She was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Toivola to Matt and Lempi (Osara) Larva. Saima had lived in this area for many years, living in San Francisco from 1940-1954 and then returning to Duluth. She was a former employee of the West Duluth Clinic and St. Luke's Hospital.

Survivors include a son, Preston (Judith) Henderson of Hermantown; a brother, Robert Larva of Meadowlands; and two grandchildren.

At Saima's request there will be no services. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Cheryl Lynn Arnold

Cheryl Lynn Arnold, 44, of Duluth died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001.

Survivors include her mother, Donna Arnold; twin sister, Carol (Richard) Smith; brothers Pierre Jr. (Sandi) and Jeffrey (Tamny)Arnold; many relatives and friends; and best friend, Moses.

Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Thursday and continuing from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday, all in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savage. Interment in St. John the Baptist cemetery. Arrangements by Cavanaugh-McNearney of Shakopee (952) 445-2755.

Kathryn Mae "Kaye" Russell

Kathryn Mae "Kaye" Russell, 57, of Griak Drive died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.

She was born in Staples, Minn., March 25, 1943, to Edward Peter and Ida Mae (Schmidt) Klappenbach Jr. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Kaye was preceded in death by her father, Edward.

Survivors include her husband, Philip David "Phil"; a daughter, Christina Russell of Superior; sons David of Minneapolis, Matthew of Duluth; her mother, Ida Mae Klappenbach of Staples; sisters Diane John of Stacy, Minn., and Karen Weber of St. Paul; a brother, Dayle Klappenbach of St. Paul; and a granddaughter, Lilyanne Rogers.

Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Thursday in Faith Lutheran Church, the Rev. Joe Koranda officiating. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Berniece Spangler

Berniece R. Spangler, 85, Underwood, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. Funeral arrangements are pending with Olson Funeral Home of Fergus Falls

Kristina Nielsen

Kristina Nielsen, 41, Pelican Rapids, died Nov. 28, 2004, due to injuries from a car accident near Moorhead. The service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids with Revs. Laurie Skow-Anderson and Randy Skow-Anderson officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery, New Ulm, Minn.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Davis

Dorothy Mae Davis, 79, Perham, died Nov. 26. 2004, at his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Roger Parks officiating. Burial will be Perham Village cemetery.

Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, and also one hour prior to the service.

David Vore

David Vore, 77, Fergus Falls, died Nov. 30, 2004, at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Hulda Hayhtya

Hulda Hayhtya, 86, New York Mills, died Nov. 23, 2004, at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church of New York Mills.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday with a 6:30p.m. prayer service at Karvonen and Son Funeral Home in New York Mills. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral at church.

Ella Nelson

Ella Nelson, 84, Battle Lake, died Nov. 23, 2004, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, rural Battle Lake, with Rev. Don Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Marquette

Lois Joy Marquette, 72, Dent, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Perham Memorial Hospital. The service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Refsland officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery of New York Mills.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Nov. 24, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham.

George Peterson

George Peterson, 93, New York Mills, died Nov. 23, 2004, at the Elders' Home in New York Mills.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Deer Creek.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m.prayer service at Karvonen and Son Funeral Home in New York Mills.

Hazel Enslin

Hazel Enslin, 85, Frazee, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Perham Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at the United Methodist Church, Perham, with Revs. Roger Parks and August Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in Perham Village cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service Nov. 26 at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, and also at the church one hour prior to the service.

Leonard Nelson

Leonard Nelson, 96, Clitherall and Battle Lake, died Nov. 20, 2004, at Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center. Funeral arrangements are pending with Belmont Funeral Home, Henning.

Stella Pickar

Stella Pickar, 94, of Sebeka died Oct. 20, 2004, at the Greater Staples Care Center in Staples. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 25 at the United Methodist Churh in Sebeka.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Sebeka and one hour prior to the service.

Urban Kampsen

Urban J. Kampsen, 90, Ottertail, died Oct. 19, 2004, at Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Rush Lake, rural Perham, with Rev. Jerry Nordick, Rev. Leo Otto and Rev. Kevin Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is in charge of arrangements.

John Myhre

Dr. John Myhre, 61, Battle Lake, died Nov. 10, 2004, at his home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home of Battle Lake with Rev. Lyle Hoxtell officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday with a 6 p.m. Masonic Service at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Sunday service.

Carl Nampa

Carl Nampa, 86, died Nov. 10, 2004, at Perham Memorial Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at the funeral home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Arrangements are with Karvonen and Son Funeral Home of New York Mills.

Ruth Perala

Ruth Perala died Nov. 11, 2004, at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Karvonen and Son Funeral Home in New York Mills and also one hour prior to the service.

David Lunde

David E. Lunde, 59, of Grand Junction, Colo., a summer resident of Dent, died June 21, 2004, in Perham Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 24, at 2 p.m. at Perham Community Alliance with Rev. Tom Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Memorial cemetery of Grand Junction.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Irma Martinson

Irma Martinson, 83, of Perham died Tuesday, June 22, at his own home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Sat., June 26, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Perham with Rev. Henry Buchholz officiating.

Visitation will be Friday, June 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral Home of Perham.

Willard Johnson

Willard Johnson, 88, Perham, died Aug. 6, 2004, at Perham Memorial Home. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Perham with Rev. Terry Grzybowski officiating. Burial will be at Gorman Town cemetery of rural Perham.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral Home of Perham.

Clara Monroe

Clara Ellen Monroe, 80, Henning, died Aug. 8, 2004, at Shady Oak Retreat, Underwood. Funeral services are pending with the Belmont Funeral Home of Henning.

Byron Hendra

Byron Hendra, 69, of Pelican Rapids died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at MeritCare of Fargo. Arrangements are pending with Larson Funeral Home.

Gloriann Heidinger

Gloriann Heidinger, 48, of Elbow Lake died August 8, 2004, at her home. Funeral arrangements are pending with Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Elbow Lake. x

Sergio Prado

Sergio Prado, MD, former member of the Fergus Falls Medical Group and Lake Region Healthcare Medical Staff, died Sept. 1, 2004, on his farm in Chile after a struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease). Cards and memorials may be sent to the Prado family at Alcantara 900, Apt. 51, Santiago, Chile.

Myrtle Brown

Myrtle Edna Brown, 93, of Vergas died Sept. 1, 2004, at Perham Memorial Nursing Home of Perham. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church of Dent with Rev. Gary Klempke officiating.

Burial will follow in Silent Vale cemetery of Maine.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral Home of Perham, as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
