Olive Mae "Tooky" Lindquist
Olive Mae Lindquist, 72, of LaVaque Road passed away peacefully Friday, May 11, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospice, Duluth, after a courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side.
She was born July 7, 1928, in Wright to Francis W. and Pearl H. Lequier. Tooky married David Lindquist Oct. 31, 1976, in Duluth. She lived all her life in the Duluth area. Tooky was a member of the White Earth Indian Reservation and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital, retiring in 1993. Tooky loved the outdoors and she especially enjoyed camping and fishing.

Tooky was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Francis Lequier and sisters, Joann Anderson, Morna Firth and Betty Esterbrooks.

She is survived by her loving family including her husband of 25 years, David Lindquist of Duluth; daughter, Kathy Wilber of Duluth; sons Errol (Sue) Herrick of Montana, Jeff (Pat) Herrick of Proctor, William Herrick of Culver and Bret Herrick of Duluth; stepdaughters Patty Lindquist of Ohio and Sherri (Ed) Lamberty of Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

Tooky was a devoted mother who could ease your pain, comfort your soul and tell it to you straight. Her loving spirit will be in our hearts forever.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday in Johnson Mortuary Chapel, 514 E. Third St. Visitation continues from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Tuesday in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1333 E. Superior St., Pastor Clair Lindquist officiating. Entombment in Sunrise Memorial Park cemetery in Hermantown. Memorials may be made through Johnson Mortuary or directly to the family.

Services entrusted to Johnson Mortuary.

Richard H. Ranta
Richard H. Ranta, 73, of Duluth passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001, in Chris Jensen Nursing Home, Duluth.
He was born July 2, 1997, in Duluth to Hjalmer and Mary (Johnson) Ranta. Richard was employed at DM&IR; as a machine operator. He served in the United States National Guard, was a member of the Moose Club and the Homesteaders. Richard loved music.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard is survived by sons Richard (Margaret) Ranta and Robert Ranta; best friends Catherine Bergquist and William Fitzsimmons.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Duluth. Inurnment in Park Hill cemetery, Duluth. Johnson Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Robert Patrick Mills
Robert Patrick Mills, 78, died Friday May 11, 2001, in the Waters of Park Point health care facility.
Bob was born May 25, 1922, in the home of his grandfather, William Mills, of Bayview Heights near Proctor. He and his mother left soon after and went to Louisville, Ky., to stay a short time with her relatives. They then moved to Chicago, where he lived until around 1960 when he returned to Duluth. While in Chicago, Bob worked as a commercial artist for various firms in the city, including the prestigious firm of Raymond Loewy Designs in Chicago. He was a graduate of Senn High School and Schools of Design, all in Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Virginia Stephens Mills; and a son, Peter Paul Mills.

He is survived by a daughter, Victoria Linden of California and a grandson, Evan Linden of North Carolina.
Memorial service at a later date. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.

Robert B. Hanna Sr.
Robert B. Hanna Sr., 81, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., died Wednesday, May 9, 2001.
He was a veteran of World War II. He worked for the U.S. government and was area director for OSHA in Minnesota.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; five sons; two daughters; 25 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday in Green Acres Mortuary and cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, Ariz.

John Albert McClernan
John Albert McClernan, 73, of St. Paul died Friday May 11, 2001, in the Waters of Park Point health care facility.
John was born in Hewitt, Minn., and was formerly employed as a truck driver with Rocket Express in St. Paul. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy.

He is survived by sons Daniel (Carol Ann) of Makinen, Michael of Duluth; a daughter, Sandy McClernan of Superior; a brother, Charles of Hesperia, Mich.; a sister, Helen Biskey of Cloquet; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday in Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial in Swanville, Minn.

Carolyn R. Vollmer (nee Mainella)
Carolyn R. Vollmer (nee Mainella), 38, of Lakeville, Minn., formerly of Proctor died Thursday, May 10, 2001.
She was formerly a nurse at the Group Health Clinic of Apple Valley, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her father, Martin Mainella.

Survivors include her loving husband, Steven, and sons Joshua and Chad; her mother, Darlene Mainella; a sister, Patricia Couture; brothers Scott (Tracy) and Greg (Julie) Mainella; parents-in-law Norman and Donna Vollmer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith Vollmer and Linda (Jim) Duptuy; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today at the White Funeral Home, Highway 50, Lakeville, (952) 469-2723. Visitation continues from 11 a.m. until the noon service Monday in Messiah Lutheran Church of Lakeville, 16725 Highview Ave.

Marvin Mickelson
Marvin Mickelson, 58, of Fawn Trail, Duluth died Friday, May 11, 2001, in Nopeming Nursing Home.
Service: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hermantown Community Church. A full obituary will appear in Monday's paper.
Arrangements by Downs Funeral Home.

Ruth Josephine (Bodell) Pogue
Ruth Josephine (Bodell) Pogue, 79, of Blaine, Minn., died Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
She was a cosmetologist and loved her dog and flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hattie and Stephen Bodell of Duluth; and a son, Rodger.

Survivors include her husband, Ray; children Ronald, Judy and Richard; grandson, Redding Pogue; great-granddaughter, Aubrey; sisters Frances Nelson, Helen Doppler, Sister Stephen Bodell, Jean Jones, Georgeann Nelson and Mitzie Murphy; brothers Art Bodell, Bob Bodell, Joe Bodell, Steve Bodell, Ray Bodell, Don Bodell.
Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday in Crawford Funeral Home, Duluth, with interment immediately following in Park Hill cemetery.

Dale R. Wierimaa
Dale R. Wierimaa, 47, formerly of Quinton, Okla., died Sunday, June 3, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center Hospice Unit.
He was born May 1, 1954, in Duluth to Arvo and Julia (Palin) Wierimaa. Dale was employed as a park ranger for the Army Corps of Engineers in Oregon for a short time and in Stigler, Okla., for the past 15 years.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Arvo in 1992, and a brother, Vince Hill in 1978.

He is survived by his mother, Julia of Duluth; brothers Brian Wierimaa of Duluth and Vern Hill of Wasilla, Alaska; and many other relatives and friends, especially Tony Shannon of Duluth and Gene, Jack and Ed, all from Oklahoma.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Thursday in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Duluth, the Rev. John Sippola officiating. Services entrusted to Johnson Mortuary.

Christine Larsen Tobey
Christine Larsen Tobey, 83, of Duluth died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in Duluth.
She was born in Stavanger, Norway, on Oct. 4, 1917, to Ingvar and Anna Larsen. She immigrated through Ellis Island when she was age 5 and lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., for 34 years. Christine lived in Ramsey, N.J., for 38 years, before moving to live with her son, Glenn, and daughter-in-law, Katrina, in Duluth, for the last seven years of her life.

She married Howard C. Tobey in 1941 and had 52 wonderful years of marriage. She served as a registered public health nurse, both in Brooklyn and New Jersey. Christine loved to ice skate. Her passion was for reading and she volunteered many hours for over 10 years in the Ramsey, New Jersey Public Library. Christine was always close to her sisters, Elise and Borghild, and her brother, Arthur.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooklyn and Calvary Lutheran Church in Allendale, N.J. Christine attended Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ingrid in 1922, and her husband, Howard in 1993.

Christine is survived by her sons, Alan (Ruth) of Berkeley, Calif., Glenn (Katrina) of Duluth, Richard (Catherine) of Rhinebeck, N.Y., Phillip of New Jersey and Forrest of Alexandria, Va.; her sisters, Elsie of Glenwood, Minn., and Borghild of West Caldwell, N.J.; a brother, Arthur of Norwood, N.J.; a nephew, Pastor Arthur Montgomery of Glenwood, Minn.; and several grandchildren, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service will be at noon Friday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooklyn. Interment to follow at Greenwood cemetery in Brooklyn. Johnson Mortuary is assisting the family.
