Mary V. Ellison
Mary V. Ellison, 91, formerly of Ramsey Manor died Sunday, June 24, 2001, in Crossroads Adult Foster Care.
She was born in Duluth on Aug. 15, 1909, to Peter and Rosalie (Karasewicz) Kujawa. Mary was the fifth of 12 children. On Feb. 18, 1939, she married
Stanley Ellison in Duluth. She was employed with Pearless Yale Laundry for over 20 years, retiring in 1974.
Mary was a former member of St. James Catholic Church and its Rosary Guild. She had been attending St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights. She enjoyed playing bingo in years past.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; brothers Anthony, Michael, Leo, John and Stephen Kujawa; sisters Veronica McBlain, Sophie Pates, Ann Johnson, Vandelyn Mrozick and Theresa Saunders; and a granddaughter, Melissa Ellison.
Survivors include her son, Stan (Marge) Ellison of Spring Lake Park, Minn.; a daughter, Connie (Paul) Erickson of Duluth; a sister, Martha Silletto of Las Vegas; grandsons Peter (Donna) Ellison of Denver, Matthew Erickson of Duluth and Red (Jolynn) VanErt of Arizona; granddaughters Melinda "Mindy" Ellison of Duluth, Jennifer Erickson of Bloomington, Minn., and Patricia VanErt of St. Paul; great-grandchildren Derek Ellison of Duluth, Jeff, Aaron, Jake, Kelsey Lyn, Hannah, Casey and Scottie; many nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Carol Mahla.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Wednesday with wake prayers at 6:30 p.m. in Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation continues 9 until the 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Thursday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights. Burial in Calvary cemetery. Lawrence "Larry" Alfin
Monsaas
Lawrence "Larry" Alfin Monsaas, 88, formerly of Grandview Avenue died Monday, June 25, 2001, in the Benedictine Health Center.
Larry was born in Shelby, Mont., to Rasmus and Carrie (Almlie) and lived in Duluth since 1924. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1931 and attended Duluth Teachers College, where he obtained a bachelor of arts degree in education. Larry was in the Army during World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He retired as a foreman from the United States Postal Service in 1968, after 31 years of service.
Larry was a member of First United Methodist Church, a life-member of VFW Post 137 and a member of Glen Avon Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
He married
Elsie Tallant in 1948 and she died in 1974.
Surviving are brothers Melvin (Phyllis), Rudolph (Phyllis) and Sigvald (Betty) of Duluth; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Fern M. Russell
Fern M. Russell, 81, of Duluth passed away Sunday, June 24, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
She was born May 15, 1920, to Otto and Marion Gedde. Fern married
Arvid R. Anderson, who passed away in 1972. She then married
Robert E. Russell, who passed away in 1989. She had lived her entire life in the Duluth/Superior area. Fern was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, and her son, Robert R. Anderson in 1984.
Fern is survived by a son, Frank Anderson of Minneapolis; daughters Barbara Lynn Anderson of Duluth, Marie Anderson of Superior and Dorothy (Gary) Jerome of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a brother, Raymond (Marvel) Gedde of Superior; a niece; and a nephew.
Private graveside services will be held. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown. Services entrusted to Crawford Funeral Service.
Anne Baird
Anne Baird, 87, of White Pine, Mich., passed away Sunday, June 17, 2001, in the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital.
Anne was born Feb. 2, 1914, in Cresson, Pa., to Herman and Martha (Quarts) Connell. She graduated from Seton Hill College in Greenburg, Pa., majoring in history and a minor in English. She married
Russell A. Baird on Nov. 22, 1941. They moved to White Pine, Mich., in 1954, where they made their home.
Anne was a substitute school teacher for the White Pine and Ontonagon school districts. She was an active member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in White Pine and the Diocese of Marquette, Mich. Anne was active in various community activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell in 1983, and five brothers and three sisters.
Anne is survived by sons Russell Jr. of Lindenhurst, Ill., James N. (Kim) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Richard J. (Kareen) of Cordova, Tenn., a daughter, Sally A. (Richard) VanReese of Duluth; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Saint Martha's Hall in White Pine. Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Jude's Catholic Church in White Pine, Father John Longbucco and Father Michael Woempner officiating. Interment will be in Cresson, Pa. Cane Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Joseph I. Kerin
Joseph I. Kerin, 83, of West Duluth died Thursday June 28, 2001, in his residence.
He was born in Duluth Aug. 28, 1917, to Anthony and Rose Kerin. Joe worked at the U.S. Steel plant in Morgan Park until he retired. He then worked for the Athletic Club as a chef. He was a World War II Army veteran and had received a Bronze Star.
Joe was a member of the former Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He enjoyed traveling to his sons' homes in Sarasota, Fla., and Dallas, where he enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1991; and his sisters, Rose Michaelis and Margie Maguire.
He is survived by sons Duane (Ilona) Kerin of Edina, Minn., and Roger (Shirley) Kerin of Dallas; sisters Jennie Young of Los Angeles, Pauline Inforzato and Frances Negard, both of Duluth; grandchildren Troy, Todd and Suzanne; and great-grandchildren Danika, Kelly, Casey and Catherine; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday with a 6 p.m. rosary recitation in Foley Chapel where service is 10 a.m. Monday. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Military honors accorded by the Duluth VFW Honor Guard. Arrangements by Hegstrom Family Funeral Home, Foley Chapel, 5405 Ramsey St.
Donald Victor Price Sr.
Donald Victor Price Sr., 61, of East Third Street died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center Hospice Unit after a long illness.
He was born in Moose Lake Sept. 8, 1939, to Victor John and Clara Helen (Bonkowski) Price and had been a Duluth area resident most of his life. He had been a truck driver with Transport Inc. in Esko, and was affiliated with Allied Cab Co. in all capacities for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his former wife, Sue Price of Marion, Iowa; a daughter, Maria Richardson of Hermantown; sons Donald V. Jr., Ronald R. (Ann Halvorsen), both of Duluth, and Terry D. of Hermantown; a brother, John (Lyn) of Coon Rapids, Minn.; a sister, Deeann (Steve) Larson of Clearwater, Minn.; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Clarence Hill and Helen Heredid, both of Duluth.

Harold A. Peterson
Harold A. Peterson, 87, of Hermantown died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1913, in West Duluth to Hjalmar and Alida (Johansson) Peterson. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a carpenter and worked for several contractors in Duluth and Hermantown. He moved to Hermantown in 1968, where he resided until the time of his death.
He married
Betty L. (Cardinal) Knuckey on Sept. 18, 1970. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a life-member of VFW Post 137, both in West Duluth, and the Solway Seniors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Arvid and Carl Einer Peterson; and sisters Elsie Stafford and Signe Ludes.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Betty; sisters Astrid Peterson of Duluth and Beverly (William) Rose of Hopkins, Minn.; his stepchildren, Betty's children from her first marriage to Hugh Knuckey who died in 1968, David (Bettye) Knuckey of Sweeney, Texas, Robert (Sandee) Knuckey of Carlton, Lillian (Charlie) Hall of Rocky Mount, N.C., Alice (Keith) Larson of Hermantown and Lynn (Dan) Svercl of Duluth; grandchildren Tonya, Sarah, Brian, Kelly, Tara and Stephanie, Kevin and Laurie, and John and Matt; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Bethany Lutheran Church. Entombment in Sunrise Memorial Park with military honors accorded by Duluth VFW Honor Guard. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.
Blaine O. "Bud" Bush
Blaine O. "Bud" Bush, 86, of Bay View Heights died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
Bud was born April 2, 1915, in Shell Lake, Wis. After the family moved to Duluth he attended Merritt Elementary, Lincoln Junior High and graduated from Denfeld High School. He married
Roseanna B. Nelson in June 1934. They raised six children. He retired on Oct. 31, 1974, from Minnesota Power, after 34 years of service in the Line Department.
Bud was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, Good Sam Club-Harbor Lights Chapter, IBEW Local 31, Evergreen Senior Center and Morgan Park Senior Center. Bud was a great gardener of flowers and vegetables, and loved fishing and hunting. His weekly bridge club gatherings in West Duluth and Morgan Park were important to him. Repairing and creating tools and equipment were an expression of his mechanical and creative abilities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ethel Bush; a sister, June Trumbower; and a brother, Clarence Bush.
He is survived by sons Blaine of Lake San Marcos, Calif., Keith (Kathy) of Pike Lake and Curtis of Brevator Township; daughters Marjorie (Gerald) Lind of Proctor, Marilyn (Dwaine) Reno of Livingston, Texas and Betsy (Wayne) Amendola of Livingston; a brother, James (Lucille) Bush of Carlton; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his special friend and loving companion, Dorothy.

Evelyn Maria Petersen
Evelyn Maria Petersen, 87, of Church Place, formerly of East Sixth Street, passed away Monday, June 25, 2001, in Viewcrest Health Center.
She was born in Anita, Pa., on April 9, 1914, to Ive and Karen (Gudmundsson) Hartzberg. Evelyn graduated from Denfeld High School and also graduated from Duluth School of Beauty Culture. She was a licensed beautician and managed the Duluth School of Beauty Culture for many years. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for Arrowhead Furniture.
Evelyn was a past member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Sven Hartzberg in 1983, Gunnar Hartzberg in 1996, John Hartzberg in 1918, Donald Hartzberg in 2001, and Kenneth Hartzberg in 1973; and a sister, Ethel Bovee, in 2000.
Evelyn is survived by her brother, Roger (Diane) Hartzberg of Duluth; sisters Carol (William) Woolsey of Minneapolis and Marion Indihar of Joseph, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
