Mason David Stokes
Mason David Stokes, infant son of Justin Stokes and Gwen Cornick, Duluth, was born Friday, June 22, 2001, and died Saturday, June 23, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
He is survived by his parents; grandparents David and Debby Stokes, and Eugene and Darlene Cornick; great-grandparents Edward and Gertrude Stokes, Dale and Marcia Lunde, Donna and William Mercier, all of Duluth, and Evelyn Cornick of Albert Lea, Minn.; along with many other loving family members and loving friends.

We will always love and remember you.
Memorial service: 7 p.m. today in Kenwood Lutheran Church.

Philip Benjamin Henry Teschendorf
Philip Benjamin Henry Teschendorf, 81, of Red Wing, Minn., died Tuesday, June 26, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Dee; children Patti (Rick) Landers, Mary (Todd Davis) Bainer and Brian (Paula) Teschendorf; four grandchildren; a sister; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today at the Mahn Family Funeral Home in Red Wing with American Legion prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues from 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m. memorial service Friday in First Lutheran Church.

Bernard Levenduski
Bernard Levenduski, 87, of Minneapolis, formerly of Duluth, died Friday, June 22, 2001, in the Park Plaza Health Care Center in St. Louis Park, Minn.
He was born in Duluth, the son of Frank and Louise (Maniak) Levenduski and attended Duluth public schools, graduating from Duluth Central High School.

Most of his working years were spent in railroading. He worked for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway in Duluth; was the Upper Midwest representative of the American Association of Railroads, Washington, D.C.; worked for Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railroad in Marquette, Mich., and as their general agent in Duluth; and for the Soo Line Railroad in Duluth and Minneapolis, where he retired after more than 40 years in railroading.

As an active Freemason, he was a member of Ionic Lodge 186, AF&AM; in Duluth and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Minneapolis, where he was invested Knight Commander of the Court of Honour. He was a member of Zuhrah Shrine in Minneapolis, a past president of the Northeast Shrine Club and a contributing correspondent to the Zuhrah Arabian. He was also a member of the AARP.

Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice (Robinson), in 1993; his parents; a brother, Joe (Kay) Leeds of Van Nuys, Calif.; and a sister, Martha (Thomas W.) Bastasz of St. Paul.

He is survived by brothers Daniel F. (Mary) Levenduski of Duluth and Conrad J. (Jean) Levenduski of Austin, Texas; nieces Dr. Cristine Levenduski of Atlanta, B.J. Davis of Austin, Susan Levenduski of Austin and Barbara Kay Leeds (Vincent Pugliese) of Van Nuys, Calif.; nephews Thomas (Carole) Bastasz Jr. of St. Paul and Dr. Robert (Kathy) Bastasz of Livermore, Calif.; and a grandniece, Piper Davis of Austin.
A Masonic service of inurnment will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Polish Catholic cemetery, Duluth. A commemorative gathering celebrating the life of Bernie Levenduski will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Little Jack's Steak House in Minneapolis, 201 Lowry Ave. N.E.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Scottish Rite Clinic for Childhood Language Disorders or to the donor's choice.

Robin Lee (Hill) Franckowiak
Robin Lee (Hill) Franckowiak, 33, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident.
Robin was born Oct. 17, 1967, in Duluth to Geraldine Gatlin. Robin graduated from Unity School of Duluth, Fond du Lac Community College for law enforcement and was currently employed with Wisconsin State Department of Corrections.

Robin was a caring and outgoing person who loved collectibles. She loved life and will be sadly missed by all her family and friends, whom she loved and who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Sykes.

Survivors include her mother, Geraldine Gatlin; brothers Clarence (Jennifer) Hill and Kenneth W. (Janet) Hill of Superior, and Kirk (Tamra) Hill of Cloquet; a sister, Amber Hill of Wausau, Wis.; nieces and nephews Derek, Shayna, Kenneth Jr. and Allissa Lees, Lona and Carly Scouton, Travis, Jacob, Brandon and BreeAnna Hill; and special aunt, Terry (Bob) Hanninen.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today and service at 11 a.m. Friday in Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home. Interment in Sunrise cemetery. Arrangements by Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home.

Elly Kanuit
Elly Kanuit, 79, of West 10th Street died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in her home.
She was born in Sommerfeld, Germany, July 19, 1921, to Otto and Martha Zorn. She married Louis L. Kanuit on Nov. 22, 1951, in Frankfurt, Germany. She had worked in the MMC Sewing Factory in Duluth, and Haggers Clothing in Oklahoma City.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She very much enjoyed crocheting and gardening as her pastimes and spending time with her companion, Fritz the cat.

She is survived by her husband, Louis; brother in-law, Tom (Barb) Kanuit of Duluth; sister in-law, Rita (Royal) Miller of Two Harbors; nieces Tammi Magnuson, Miki Kanuit, Gloria Kersten, and nephew, Steve Miller.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Dougherty Funeral Home. Interment in Polish Catholic cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home 600 E. Second St.

Evangeline "Vangie" B. Piper
Evangeline "Vangie" B. Piper, 91, formerly of Partridge Street and Westberg Road, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in St. Luke's hospice.
She was the beloved daughter of Emil A. Buchholz and Lydia W. Buchholz, wife of Bertram W.J. Piper and mother of Nancy Piper Amundson.

She was born Jan. 24, 1910, in Kindred, N.D., attended schools in Casselton, N.D., and graduated from Valley City, N.D., Teachers College and University of Minnesota Duluth. She married Bertram "Bert" W.J. Piper on June 6, 1932, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

This gracious, talented woman spent a portion of her life in Duluth in business. Vangie was instrumental in setting up the Duluth Building Trades Welfare Fund (insurance plan) office. However, most of her professional life was that of a teacher. Vangie taught in Leonard, N.D., and in Duluth, primarily at the Gnesen and Endion schools. It was at those schools that she engaged students in versions of Broadway musicals, where all involved had a great deal of fun.

Music was a major joy in her life. She possessed a beautiful singing voice that brought her acclaim in the Fargo-Casselton area and in Sun City, Ariz., where her active retirement years were spent. It was in those regions that she soloed for many churches and synagogues.

She also was involved in multiple choruses in those places. In Duluth, in addition to teaching, her musical career encompassed years of dedication to the Duluth/Superior Symphony Chorus and St. Paul's Church Choir. Vangie also played the piano and organ and often danced, belonging to clubs for those activities.

Her hobby of baking was appreciated by her family, friends and neighbors. She was best known for her coffee cakes and strawberry pies. She also was an avid gardener, dabbled in oil and acrylic paints and wrote children's books (unpublished).

Vangie's active church affiliations were St. Paul's Episcopal in Duluth, St. Christopher's Episcopal in Sun City and Moravian Churches of Fargo-Casselton.

Vangie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived and most sadly missed by her daughter, Nancy (Vernon) Amundson of Duluth; grandsons Brock Amundson of Duluth, Brett (Maria) Amundson of Maple Grove, Minn., and Blake (Kim) Amundson of Maple Grove, Minn., a granddaughter, Brook (Jose) Amundson-Silva of Greensboro, N.C.; and great-grandsons Fletcher Logan and Kyle James.
A memorial service was held June 23 in St. Paul's Episcopal Church Chapel, the Rev. M. Lucie Thomas as celebrant. Interment in St. Paul's Columbarium. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St.

Verna B. Sneide-Sutherland
Verna B. Sneide-Sutherland, 80, of Duluth, formerly of Proctor passed away Friday, June 22, 2001, at Lake Haven Manor in Duluth.
Born to Olaf and Hansina (Gudvangen) Johnson on June 22, 1921, in Duluth, Verna graduated from Denfeld High School in 1939. She worked as a waitress at Glass Block and the Gopher.

Verna was preceded in death by her first husband, John Sneide, in 1995; a grandson, Michael Sneide in 1984; and her infant sister, Doris.

Surviving her are husband, Russell Sutherland; sons Larry (Joan) of Duluth, Steve (Jan) of Proctor, Paul of Proctor; daughters Carol Stebner of Superior, Kathleen Jones of Flowermound, Texas, Karen (Brian) Hedman of Naperville, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Violet Thompson of Duluth, and Opal Isbel of California.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in Bell Brothers Chapel. Burial in Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors-Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th. Ave. W.

Agnes Linder
Agnes Linder, formerly of Ramsey Manor died peacefully Friday, June 22, 2001, in Lake Haven Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 25, 1911, to Peter and Katrina Hanson. Agnes worked at Zinsmaster Bakery and Chun King (RJ Reynolds), retiring in 1973. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was well known for her country cooking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Linder in 1975; a son, Lloyd Linder in 1983; a daughter, Iris Larson in 1986; her parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a son, Jerry (Sylvia) Linder of Duluth; grandchildren Dean (Colleen) Linder of Hermantown, Dawn (Gene) Hautajarvi of Proctor, Jon (Paula) Linder of Duluth, Bruce (Terry) Larson of Gilbert, Don (Jan) Larson of Virginia, Cheryl (John) Meglen of Iron; a nephew, Roy Olson of Cleveland; and 15 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Lake Haven for the ten years of quality care our mother and grandmother received.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Monday in Fred Olson Mortuary Chapel.

Jenneane Seraphine Pinsonnault
Jenneane Seraphine Pinsonnault, 59, of Duluth, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2001, in her home at Residential Services Inc./Hartly.
Jenneane was born to Rene and Madeline (Neumann) Pinsonnault on April 21, 1942, in Chicago.

A special thank you to the friends and staff at Residential Services Inc./Hartley and her senior friends and staff at UDAC.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, John (Beulah) Neumann and Telesphore (Seraphina) Pinsonnault.

Jenneane is survived by her brothers, Rene (Christine), Bill (Sandra) and Ron (Brenda) Pinsonnault; sister, Cathy Pinsonnault; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Nancy Phillips and Ray Rybos.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Duluth. Inurnment in Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.
