Bernard Levenduski, 87, of Minneapolis died Friday, June 22, 2001.

John Hultman
John Hultman, 67, of Park Street passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was born April 17, 1934, in Duluth to Sam and Aileen (Pavola) Hultman. A lifelong Duluth resident, he was a 1952 graduate of Proctor High School. John served with the Minnesota Air National Guard. He was an employee of St. Louis County for over 30 years, retiring as building superintendent in 1991. He was a member of Northwest Gun Club, Jack Meade Gun Club, Vermilion Trail and Duluth Elks Lodge 133.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and a half-brother, Everett Hultman.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Barb; a son, Tim (Barb) of Silver Bay; a daughter, Lori (Derek) Dickson of Duluth; grandchildren Zack and Victoria Dickson and John Hultman; sisters May Graves of Proctor, Margret (Wallace) Halverson and Mary (Walter) Krieger, both of Duluth; half brother, Arnold Hultman of Duluth; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Tuesday in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, the Rev. Joseph Koranda officiating. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors-Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 East Fourth St., 722-5131.

Edward A. Charnowski
Edward A. Charnowski, 90, of Duluth, formerly of Eveleth died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Benedictine Health Center, Duluth, from complications of a stroke.
Born July 28, 1910, in Duluth to Simon and Victoria (Sternal) Charnowski, he graduated from Denfeld High School. He married Mary Lushene on July 31, 1963 in Eveleth. Following his marriage, he moved to Eveleth, returning to Duluth last year. He worked as a pattern maker for Clyde Iron Works in Duluth, retiring in 1972. Following retirement, he joined his wife, Mary, in the operation of the Biwabik State Bank. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth Elks Lodge 1161 and Mesabi Range Post 1172, Veterans of Foreign War, all of Eveleth. He was a Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 1985; and a special friend, Leone Hansen; his twin brother, Louis; and a sister, Pauline.

He is survived by a sister, Rose Parchem, a nephew, David (Dorothy) Charnowski and their children, all of Duluth. He will be sadly missed by his friends Tad and Kate Arntzen and family.
Memorial Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Benedictine Health Center's Chapel, 925 Kenwood Ave. A luncheon will follow. A second memorial Mass, preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m., will be held at 10 a.m. July 7 in Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth. Inurnment in Eveleth cemetery. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society, Duluth Chapter. Arrangements are by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home, Eveleth.

Gertrude "Gertie" Ellen Johnston
Gertrude "Gertie" Ellen Johnston, 99, formerly of Hillside Gardens in Proctor, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital.
She was born Oct. 2, 1901, to Jack and Ema Condon in Ironton, Iowa. In 1910, her family moved and homesteaded to Timberlake, S.D. She married Laverne Johnston in 1921 and moved to Proctor in 1927. Gertie was a homemaker and worked at many restaurants and grocery stores in Proctor. She retired in 1963 from St. Luke's Hospital food service department. She was a longtime member of Forbes United Methodist Church where she was active in its church circles, and a member of AARP. Gertie enjoyed craft work, crochet, making jelly and traveling. She also was an excellent volleyball player in her youth. Gertie was an exemplary woman who truly enjoyed life. She lived independently until late 2000, and drove a car to age 98.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Leslie and Wayne; sisters Bessie Grohsman and Clara Blassigame; a brother, Karl Condon; and grandsons Laverne Johnston and Donald Johnston.

She is survived by sons Carl (Margaret) of Bellville, Texas, Lyle (Armella) of Bella Vista, Ark., and Robert "Bob" of Proctor; a daughter, Ella Bishir of Hilltop Lakes, Texas; a sister, Minnie Long of Timberlake, S.D.; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Bell Brothers Chapel and continuing from noon until the 1 p.m. service Monday in Forbes United Methodist Church, Rev. Marilyn Evans officiating. Burial will be in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements are by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors-Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W. Family prefers memorials be directed to the Memorial Fund of Forbes United Methodist Church.

Ada Rosina Williams
Ada Rosina Williams, 79, formerly of Farrell Road, Duluth, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in the Arrowhead Senior Living Community in Virginia.
Ada was born in Chisholm to Howard and Lillian (Whitcomb) Pomeroy and was a longtime Duluth resident. She was a data entry operator for Kelly How Thomson and Marshall Wells Hardware Co.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are a daughter, Lila Clair of St. Cloud, Fla.; a son, Wyatt (Tanya) of Orlando, Fla.; sisters Reta Westman and Dorothy Alto of Virginia and Julia Pomeroy of Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, Sheldon Pomeroy of Hibbing; and grandchildren Julie and Steve; four great grandchildren.
In keeping with Ada's request, there will be no service. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors-Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Ambrose R. "Jack" Horner
Ambrose R. "Jack" Horner, 86, former Duluth resident died Friday, June 15, 2001, in Bloomington, Minn.
He was born in Superior and lived most of his life in Duluth before moving to Bloomington in 1995. He had been a police officer for the Duluth Police Department for 25 years and retired in 1967. He was a member of St. James and St. Michael's Catholic Churches, Peace Officers Association and had graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School.

His parents were Robert and Agnes Horner. He was also preceded in death by brothers Raymond and Joseph Horner; and a sister, Virgil O'Brien.

Surviving are daughters Colleen (Gordon) Conard of Hudson, Wis., Kathleen (Warren) Kregness of Superior, Mary Pat Horner of Reno, Nev., Susan (Daniel) Martell of Bloomington, Minn.; a son, John (Kathy) Horner of Duluth; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Tuesday in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel. Burial in Calvary cemetery. Family prefers memorials. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 E. Fourth St.

Kyle Kenneth O'Donnell
Kyle Kenneth O'Donnell, 15, of Jay Street died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital.
He was born in Duluth at St. Luke's Hospital New Year's Day 1986. He attended East High School where he was an honor roll student. He enjoyed woodworking and math and could challenge his teachers with questions hard to answer. His passion was the cello, which he played with all his heart. Kyle was a member of Boy Scout Troop 15, where he was working toward his Eagle rank. He loved to fish and fix things and tackle any problem. He was just confirmed as a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Dora O'Donnell; and his maternal grandfather, Claude Rice.

He is survived by his mom and dad, Diane and Bob O'Donnell; his little sister, Alyson; his maternal grandmother, Florence Rice; paternal grandfather, Ralph O'Donnell; an uncle John and aunt Dianne Parenteau and cousins Jeff, Jay and Joel Parenteau; and many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m. today in Bell Brothers Chapel. Visitation continues Monday from 11 a.m. until the noon service in Lakeside Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Alan Cutter officiating. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Julian A. "Slim" Aunan
Julian A. "Slim" Aunan, 93, former Duluth resident died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in his home in Leavenworth, Wash.
He was born March 24, 1908, in Hayward, Wis., to Anders and Ingeborg (Jensen) Aunan. The family moved to Singsas, Norway, where he received his early education. Upon returning to the United States, he lived in Poplar, Wis. In 1930, he married Inez Engen in Duluth where they made their home and raised their family.

Slim was well known in Duluth as a master carpenter and was called upon to help restore the Glensheen Mansion historical site. As foreman, he built many highway bridges in northern Minnesota as well as buildings and houses that still stand in the Midwest.

He was a member of the Epledalen Lodge, Sons Of Norway.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Inez, in 1991; sisters Alphie Carlson and Myrtle Norberg; brother, Norman, and twin brothers, Woodrow and Willard.

Slim is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Ruth Aunan of Lake Nebagamon, Wis., and Wally and Gladyce Aunan of Leavenworth; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in Bell Brothers Chapel. Service 11 a.m. Wednesday in Asbury United Methodist Church, 6822 Grand Ave. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors-Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Ann Gallop Cherson
Ann Gallop Cherson, 87, former Duluth resident died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in Anaheim, Calif.
She was born in Duluth and lived here until moving to southern California in 1963. She was a member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue and was active in the PTA. She enjoyed singing in the "Mother's Chorus" and was past president of the B'nai Brith Women in Anaheim. Also, while living in Duluth she was employed at Gershgol's, First Street Department Store, Oreck's, Tots To Teens and Bud's Apparel.

She was a devoted wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her love of music, dancing and especially for her wonderful baking skills.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bessie Gallop; her husband, Max in 1996; brothers Benny, Louie, Sammy and Chuck Gallop.

Surviving are a daughter, Lorrayne (Aaron) Glazman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sons Gerald (Dee) Cherson of Las Vegas, Hersh (Grace) Cherson of Yorba Linda, Calif.; grandchildren Charlie (Cindy) Glazman, Neil (Barb Russ) Glazman, Randi (Roger) Simon, Lori (Matt) Griffin, Shari Cherson and David Cherson; great-grandchildren Les Glazman, Lindsay and Jordan Simon, Megan Griffin; a sister, Rose Polinsky; a sister-in-law, Pearl Sigel; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Monday in Tifereth Israel cemetery, located on Howard Gnesen Road just north of Calvary cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 E. Fourth St.

Mildred Mary Harney
Mildred Mary Harney, 90, formerly of Grandview Manor died Friday, June 15, 2001, in the Waters of Park Point health care facility.
Mildred was born Jan. 24, 1911, in Knife River to Roy and Christine Hartigan. She was employed as a housekeeper during the 1950s with the Hotel Duluth. She was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Vivian Wotruba.

Survivors include a daughter, Marge Hansen; sons Leo Harney and Paul (Chris) Harney, all of Duluth; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St.

Gail Diane Myers and Griffin Thomas Myers
Gail Diane (Anderson) Myers, 38, and her infant son, Griffin Thomas Myers died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, in South St. Paul.
They were the beloved wife and 5-week-old son of Thomas F. "Tad" Myers, formerly of Duluth.

Gail was born June 9, 1963, and grew up in Northfield, Minn. Griffin was born in St. Paul May 4, 2001.

They are survived by husband and father, "Tad" Myers; their parents and grandparents Don and Cindy Anderson of Northfield and Tom and Claudia Myers of Duluth. Also surviving are Gail's brothers, Scott and Bruce (Anne); Gail's sister, Gwen; Gail's nieces and nephews Mara, Jacob, Birch and Fawn; Tad's brother, Peter (Amy) of Grand Rapids; Tad's sister, Jessica (Todd) Torvinen; and Tad's nephews Spencer, Austin and Sam.
Gathering of friends: 3 until the 7 p.m. memorial service Monday in First United Methodist Church of South St. Paul, 140 Sixth Ave. N., South St. Paul. Memorials preferred to Twin Cities Metro Bagpipe Band or Ramsay County Humane Society. Arrangements by English-Meeker Funeral Home of South St. Paul, (651) 455-5352.
