Muriel Elaine Roske
Muriel Elaine Roske, formerly of Duluth and Moose Lake, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in the Waters of Park Point health care facility.
She was born in Duluth to Paul and Lillian (Oettel) Peterson. She was a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for 40 years, retiring in 1982. She graduated from Denfeld High School, was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Telephone Pioneers of America C.P. Wyman Chapter and Moose Lodge 479 of Moose Lake.
Muriel moved to Moose Lake in 1986 and returned to Duluth in 1999. Her husband, Robert, died in 1992. They were married
June 28, 1947. Muriel enjoyed crafts, fishing and camping.
Surviving are many cousins, including Carol Ann Bearheart of Duluth; many friends, including Connie Malone of Hermantown and John Daniluk of Duluth; and the staff and residents of the Waters of Park Point health-care facility.

Yngvar "Nels" Nelson
Yngvar "Nels" Nelson, 95, formerly of Duluth, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2001, in LaHabra, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; sons David, Douglas, Charles; a daughter Connie; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Lucille E. Nick
Lucille E. Nick, 82, of Duluth died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital.
She was born June 10, 1919, to Hjalmer and Jennie (Askelin) Norlund in Finlayson. Lucille grew up in Finlayson and graduated from Finlayson High School. She lived in Duluth from 1938 until 1972, working for Duluth Avionics and General Electric. She moved to Boise, Idaho, where she worked in food service at Boise State University. Following 50 years of working, she retired in 1991 and moved back to Duluth.
Lucille enjoyed bicycling, walking, going to movies and traveling in the car.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas G. Nick in 1991; a granddaughter, Carrie Linsten; a brother, Swante Norlund; and a sister, Elsie Nurmi.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Rick) Linsten of Duluth; sons Gary of Duluth, Danny (Kathy) of Pleasanton, Texas, and David (Tammy) of Boise; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Chitwood of Virginia.
Visitation: 2 until the 3 p.m. memorial service Saturday in Forest Hill cemetery Chapel. Inurnment in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.
Karen S. Darker
Karen S. Darker, 60, of Duluth died Monday, July 9, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center with her family at her side.
She was born Oct. 4, 1940, in Duluth to John and Gladys (Wolanen) Kotka. She worked for the Benedictine Health Center for the last 21 years. She was a former member of Hillside United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping and traveling.
Karen was a kind and caring person who was concerned about everyone: her family, her friends, her sister and her sister's family. As one of her daughters put it, "just say Mom had a heart of gold."
She was a devoted mother and loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. She used her artistic abilities in her crafts, which she shared with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by an infant sister, Marion Kotka.
She is survived by children Deborah Darker Spears, Gerald R. "Jerry" Darker and Diane Darker, all of Duluth, and Roy (Amy) Darker of Superior; a sister, June (Robert) Lynch of Hermantown; her former husband and best friend, Jerry "Suke" Darker of Duluth; grandchildren Ryan Spears, Lacy Spears and her fiance, Chad Svaleson, Nikki Jo Darker, and Mathew, Luke, Nathan and Emily Darker; a great-granddaughter, Riley Svaleson; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial in Bethany cemetery.
Evert N. Forsberg
Evert N. Forsberg, 86, formerly of Duluth, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, July 6, 2001, in St. Joseph Hospital, St. Louis.
He was the dear son born to Richard and Dalia Forsberg on July 25, 1914, in Duluth. Evert was a 1932 graduate of Central High School and attended Duluth State Teachers College. He served his country in the Army in World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 0028. Evert worked for Jeno Paulucci of Chung King and at R.J. Reynolds as a traffic manager. In 1973 he moved from the Duluth area to Bonita Springs, Fla., to retire.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, Fla.
Evert was welcomed at the Gates of Heaven by his parents, John and Dalia Forsberg; a brother, Herbert Forsberg; sisters-in-law Evelyn Forsberg and Doris Forsberg; and a brother-in-law, Roy Westman.
Surviving him are his loving son, Michael Ross (Eileen) Forsberg; step-grandchildren Carolyn and Stephanie Turner; beloved sister, Violet Westman; nieces Karen (David) Carlson and Linda (Calvin) Johnson; a nephew, John Forsberg; grandnieces and grandnephews; and great-grandnieces and -nephews.
Evert, your warmth and loving memories will live forever in our hearts. We miss you!

Margaret M. "Tillie" Telega
Margaret M. "Tillie" Telega, 95, lifelong resident of Duluth died Saturday, July 7, 2001, in Viewcrest Nursing Home.
Margaret was born April 21, 1906, to Fred and Mary Glockle and had attended Duluth Cathedral High School. She began her working career as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., and later worked as a floor manager for S.S. Kresgee Co. She retired in the early '70s from Sears and Roebuck Co., after many years of service.
Margaret enjoyed card playing, especially cribbage, and fishing and spending time with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Peter; a daughter, Betty Jane Peterson; four brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include a son, Gerald (Mildred) DeRosier; son-in-law Allen M. Peterson; granddaughters Barbara (Gary) Johnson and Karen (Randy) Felknor; a grandson, Paul Peterson; great-grandchildren Angella and Aimee Hallgren, Tammy Peterson and Ryan Johnson; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Frank A. Werschay
Frank A. Werschay, 95, of Eveleth, formerly of Duluth, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Virginia.
He was born to Anton and Katrina Werschay on Oct. 11, 1905, in Superior. Frank attended Denfeld High School. He was a superintendent of public works for the city of Duluth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydian in 1994; his parents; and six brothers.
Surviving are his son, Frank W. (Diana) Werschay of Eveleth; a daughter, Geraldine (Kenny) Waisanen of Gordon, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Maegi (Carolyn) Andreiko
Maegi (Carolyn) Andreiko, 49, of Duluth went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2001, after a brave struggle with cancer.
She was born in St. Paul on May 16, 1952, to Peter and Betty (Dahl) Andreiko. She graduated from Duluth Central High School and went to college in Minneapolis, Phoenix, and recently the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Maegi was an eclectic person with many varied interests. She had worked as a one-on-one educational instructor, copy editor, costume designer for theater productions, taught car repair at a Minneapolis college and enjoyed many other pursuits. She was an artist who loved painting, poetry, theater and dance. She had a great sense of humor and walked to the beat of her own drum.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many caring friends. Her membership in the Lake Superior Interfaith Community Church, where she served on the board of directors, gave her great comfort and companionship.
Maegi was preceded in death by her father, Peter; grandparents George and Josephine Dahl, and Profil and Frances Andreiko; and her sister, Jeanne.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Josephina; her mother and stepfather, Betty and Dick Weatherby; her sisters, Patty O'Leary, Barbara Andreiko, Marilyn Andreiko-Harper; her brother, Peter (Michelle) Andreiko II; her stepbrothers Paul (Kris), Perry (Linda) and Scott (Cary) Weatherby; her stepsister, Suzy Weatherby; nieces and nephews, Jenifer O'Leary, Sara Petersen, Peter III, Katherine and Michael Andreiko, and Tara Andreiko-Harper; eight step-nieces and nephews; and many caring friends.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, in Lake Superior Interfaith Community Church, 1414 E. Ninth St., Duluth. Sharon Szukis will be the presiding minister.
Corrine W. (Corky) McLean
Corrine W. (Corky) McLean, 83, of London Road, formerly of the Pines and Northland Avenue, died peacefully Thursday, June 28, 2001.
She was born April 18, 1918, to Ethel (Hewitt) and Abram T. Whitson in Duluth. Corrine was a 1936 graduate of Duluth Central High School, and attended Principia College and the University of Minnesota. During World War II, she supported the war effort working in the Duluth-Superior shipyards. She was a retired paraprofessional with the Duluth School District, where she worked at both Unity School and Duluth East High School.
She enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world with Roger, and later with her sister and many friends. She was a longtime member of the Duluth Women's Club and other civic groups. She served as a volunteer at Glensheen and St. Mary's Hospital, and was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church. She was an avid bridge player and played on many leagues. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and her sister, Grace Eckman.
She is survived by her children, Tom and wife, Pat, of Minneapolis, Luranne of Minneapolis, and Jim and wife, Cindy, of Duluth; grandchildren Blake, Brian, Leah, Andy, Kyle and Elizabeth; a nephew, Bill; and nieces Char, Mary and Jean.
She had a special relationship with the staff and many friends at the Pines III, and staff at Lakeshore Lutheran Home.
Visitation: 1:30 until the 2:30 p.m. service Thursday in Peace United Church of Christ. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Crawford Funeral Service.
