Myrtle V. Unden
Myrtle V. Unden, 87, formerly of Duluth, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in Seaton Northwestern Hospital, Austin, Texas.
She was born Aug. 5, 1913, in Duluth to Werner and Christine (Olson) Hanson. She was a 1931 graduate of Central High School. She worked for the New York Life Insurance Co. for several years.

She married William J. Unden in January 1941 in Duluth. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Trinity Chapter 242 and a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She moved to Austin to be near her daughter, Karol, in 1998.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Unden, in November 1987; a daughter, Elaine Fontaine, in April 1997; and brothers Harry, Clarence, George and Richard Hanson.

She is survived by daughters Karol (Wayne) Savola of Austin and Lois (Dennis) Maki of West Palm Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Jill (Sean) Kinch and David Savola, both of Austin, and Michele (Todd) DeGraze and Bryan (Tricia) Fontaine, both of the Green Bay, Wis., area; several great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Elaine Hanson and Dorothy Hanson, both of Duluth; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday in Salem Lutheran Church, Hermantown. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.

Donald Victor Price Sr.
Donald Victor Price Sr., 61, of East Third Street died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center Hospice Unit after a long illness.
He was born in Moose Lake Sept. 8, 1939, to Victor John and Clara Helen (Bonkowski) Price and had been a Duluth area resident most of his life. He had been a truck driver with Transport Inc. in Esko, and was affiliated with Allied Cab Co. in all capacities for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his former wife, Sue Price of Marion, Iowa; a daughter, Maria Richardson of Hermantown; sons Donald V. Jr., Ronald R. (Ann Halvorsen), both of Duluth, and Terry D. of Hermantown; a brother, John (Lyn) of Coon Rapids, Minn.; a sister, Deeann (Steve) Larson of Clearwater, Minn.; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Clarence Hill and Helen Heredid, both of Duluth.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today and continuing from 9 until the 10 a.m. service Monday, all in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, the Rev. Father Vincent Arimond officiating. Burial in St. Mary's cemetery, Willow River, Minn. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 E. Fourth St.

Robert J. Wallin
Robert J. Wallin, 62, of St. Cloud, Minn., died Friday, June 29, 2001, in the St. Cloud Hospital.
Robert was born Dec. 3, 1938, in Duluth to Carl and Agnes (Berg) Wallin. He married Janice Faye Nordgren in Duluth in 1964.

He graduated from Duluth Denfeld and attended the University of Minnesota Duluth for two years. He served in the Army and was a cook in the Army Reserves. He was employed as a claims examiner with American Family Insurance in St. Cloud for 28 years.

Robert was a member of the BPOE Elks and American Legion Post 76.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda.

Survivors include his wife; sons Rick and Kyle; a daughter, Kelly, all of St. Cloud; two grandchildren; and his brother, Richard of Duluth.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. memorial service Tuesday in Williams Funeral Home, St. Cloud. Arrangements by Williams Funeral Home.

Henry W. Schipper
Henry W. Schipper, 79, of North 28th Avenue West, Duluth, and Sun City, Ariz., died Friday, June 8, 2001, in Boswell Hospital, Sun City.
He was born July 11, 1921, in Duluth to Henry R. and Naomi (Williams) Schipper. He was a 1939 graduate of Central High School and an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.

He married Lois Kulterman June 22, 1946. He had worked as a commercial printer in Minneapolis. He returned to Duluth to take over his father's business, Arrowhead Printing, which he owned and operated with the help of his wife, Lois, from 1961 to 1983. Lois died Feb. 16, 1992. He married Virginia "Ginny" Brown Young Oct. 23, 1993. He and Ginny enjoyed their retirement years together both in Duluth and in Sun City.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Duluth, Duluth Lions Club, Ridgeview Country Club in Duluth, and Sun City Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his first wife, Lois.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" of Duluth and Sun City; daughters Gail Tate and Mary E.S. (Daniel) Robinson, both of Duluth; sons David (Jill) of Grand Rapids and Brian (Linda) of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; sisters Shirley Swenson of Duluth and Francis (Harold "Pete") Peterson of Peoria, Ariz.; a brother, Dale (Char) of San Antonio; grandchildren Eric (Karen) Tate and Randy Tate, Prescott, Kerrick and Naomi Robinson, Luke and Dan Schipper, and Nolan and Katie Schipper; many nieces and nephews.

Henry will be sadly missed by his family and by his many friends.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday in First Lutheran Church. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mona E. Johnson
Mona E. Johnson, 95, formerly of Hermantown, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Centennial Care Center in Apple Valley, Minn.
She was born in Winona, Minn., to Fred and Wilhemina (Hermann) Priewert. Mona retired in 1969 after 20 years of service in the Registrar's office at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Mona was a former president of the Morgan Park High School PTA, former president of Hermantown AARP, a life member of United Northern Sportsman, a volunteer at Pike Lake Food Shelf, a member of the Jackson Club and a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Mona was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton, in 1981 and her son, Lebaron, in 1994.

Surviving are her son, LeRoy, of Antioch, Calif; grandchildren Sandy Johnson of Eagan, Minn., Craig (Vicki) Johnson of Hermantown, Mark Johnson of San Leandro, Calif., Jill Spalding of Livermore, Calif., and Lee Johnson of Freemont, Calif; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; her sister, Margaret Nyholm, of Duluth; and her brother, Fred (Ellie) Priewert, of Winona.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Centennial Care Center and Fairview Hospice for their exceptional care of Mona.

Doris Ruth Ransom
Doris Ruth Ransom, 75, of Vero Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach, after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 21, 1925, in River Rouge, Mich. She moved to Vero Beach 14 years ago from Neenah, Wis. She graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, as a registered nurse.

Mrs. Ransom was a deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Neenah and the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach. She was a past president of Sea Cove Condo Association of Vero Beach.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William R. Ransom Jr.; sons William R. Ransom III of Houghton, Mich., David Christopher Ransom of Madison, Wis., and Gregory Scott Ransom of Duluth; a daughter, Page Alyce Ransom-Adgani of Charleston, S.C.; brothers David Dearing of Vero Beach, Jim Dearing of Commerce, Mich.; sisters Dorothy Ridenour of Vero Beach, Margaret Pittman of Cedarville, Mich.; and six grandchildren.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, in First Presbyterian Church, Vero Beach, the Rev. Timothy Womack officiating. Donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1111 36th St., Vero Beach, FL 32960, and the American Cancer Society, 1401 21st Street, Vero Beach, EL 32960, in Mrs. Ransom's memory. Avis Mae Anderson
Avis Mae Anderson, 70, of Haines Road died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospice.
Avis was born in Kensal, N.D., to Rudolph and Louise Stern Price and lived in Duluth most of her life. She graduated from Proctor High School in 1940 and from the Carey-Gaspard Business School in Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roland J.; and a sister, Betty Berg.

Surviving are sons Larry of Cloquet and Roland C. (Linda) of Deerwood, Minn.; a daughter, Lynn Anderson, of Minneapolis; sisters Garda (Ruben) Seline of Duluth, Claudia (Gary) Knight of Dansville, Mich., and Linda Keene of Fargo, N.D.; grandchildren Erik, Krista and Trent.
A private family service will be held. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Eleanor Marie Foro
Eleanor Marie Foro, 89, of Duluth died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in the presence of her family in St. Mary's Medical Center.
Eleanor was born Sept. 7, 1911, to Sam and Inga Erickson in Duluth. She worked as a store clerk at Woolworth's and Glass Block, and as a banquet waitress at the Hotel Duluth and The Captain's Table. Eleanor did cleaning services at United Realty until her retirement in 1982. She resided in her lake home near Cotton from 1983 until her passing. Eleanor married Norman Foro on March 21, 1936, in Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her sisters Esther Congdon, Ruth Schnuckle and Mable Schnuckle; brothers William, Clarence, Melvin, Sigurd and Roy; and her parents.

Eleanor is survived by a daughter, Jean Arntson; sons Ross (Diane) Foro and Scott (Debra) Foro, all of Duluth; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Saturday in Fred Olson Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Fred Olson Mortuary.

Wilfred A. "Bill" George
Wilfred A. "Bill" George, 88, a lifelong resident of Duluth died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospice.
He was born March 27, 1913, to Murray and Ethel (Myron) George and lived for many years on Park Point, and later on McDonnell Road. He graduated from Duluth Central High School, and in 1935 from the Duluth Junior College, the predecessor of the University of Minnesota Duluth. He was commissioned an officer in the Naval Reserve during the latter part of World War II and served on harbor patrol in Duluth.

He was the original owner and manager of W.A. George Appliance Parts from 1934 until he sold the business in 1982.

Bill was the last of the five original charter members of the Duluth chapter of United States Power Squadron and a lifelong boater on Lake Superior. He was a member of Lake Superior Transportation Club, Minnesota Historical Society, St. Louis County Historical Society, Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Railroad Museum.

During retirement, he and Mildred, his wife and companion of 61 years, traveled extensively in their motor home. In the past few years they enjoyed their loving companionship closer to home, and the pleasures of gardening and working around their home and yard.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marian Rall.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, and their children, Kathy (Wayne Sr.) Carlson of Superior, Murray (Lynda) George of Duluth, Roberta (John) Christiansen and Geoffrey George, both of Two Harbors; a sister, Barbara (Thomas) Bingham of Hollywood, Calif.; grandchildren Wayne Jr., Sean, Tamara, Andrew, Anna, Miijalisa, Seth, Jorn and Taiahla; six great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to his niece, Rosemarie, for spending time with Aunt Millie while he was in the hospital.
Visitation: 12:30 until the 1:30 p.m. service Saturday in Sunrise Memorial Park Mausoleum. Entombment in Sunrise Mausoleum. Memorials are preferred to Duluth Power Squadron. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth.
