Edward Auge
Edward Auge, 80, of Proctor passed away Friday, May 25, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
Edward was born to Joseph and Mary (LeMay) Auge on Sept. 28, 1920, in St. Paul. A longtime resident of the Proctor area, he was a 1940 graduate of Proctor High School. He worked for the DM&IR; railroad for 23 years, and Diamond Tool, from which he retired after 25 years of service. Ed was a member of Legion of Mary, past member of the Knights of Columbus, prayer chain, worked with the Boy Scouts, was vice president of Diamond Tool union until he retired, and president of Union Label. Edward loved sports, especially football, and loved to go fishing. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his life.

His wife of 44 years, Dorothy, passed away in 1985. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers Roy, Richard, and Dode; sisters Dolores, Margaret, Alsace, Marcella, and Gloria; and special friend Mary Myers.

Edward is survived by sons Clifford (Patricia) of Duluth, and Roger "Rocky" (Glenda) of Matthews, N.C.; grandsons Brian (Kristen) and Todd; granddaughters Tammy (Craig) Day, Toni (Roman) Mann, Brenda (Sean) Harris and Tina (Fred) Dial; two great-grandsons; five great- granddaughters; brothers Robert of Detroit, and Charles (Mitzu) of Puyallup, Wash., sisters Blanche Hartman of Detroit and Patsy Nadolski; a brother-in-law, Edward Graham of Gladwin, Mich., and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with rosary and Legion of Mary prayers at 6:30 in Bell Brothers Chapel. Visitation continues from 9 until the 10 a.m. service Tuesday in St. Rose Catholic Church, Proctor. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

June Shirley (Phegley) (Koneczny) Ide
June Shirley (Phegley) (Koneczny) Ide, 83, of Duluth died Friday, May 26, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Koneczny; three sisters and four brothers.

She was the beloved mother of Shirley Jamison, Marjorie Messinne and Gary (Kathy) Koneczny; and is also survived by nine grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Swenson of Moose Lake; many nieces and nephews.
Interment: 1 p.m. Wednesday in Polish Catholic cemetery, Duluth. A gathering of friends and family follows at 3 p.m. in the community room of Pine Grove Apartments, 4082 Haines Road. Arrangements by Hegstrom Family Funeral Homes, Foley Chapel, 624-4838.

Blanch M. Grohman
Blanch M. Grohman died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in Duluth.
Born Aug. 29, 1905, she was a lifelong resident of Duluth, a former licensed practical nurse and private duty nurse.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kate and Frank Grohman; brothers Arthur, Eugene and Milton; and a sister, Josephine Eacobacci.

She is survived by nieces Constance Holmstrom of Duluth and Jean McFarlin of Minnetonka, Minn.; nephews Russell Grohman of Portland, Ore., and Charles Grohman of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Private memorial graveside services will be held later this summer in Forest Hills cemetery. Cremation by Johnson Mortuary. Memorials preferred to Animal Allies Humane Society of Duluth.

Claire Ann Kirkpatrick Balcom
Claire Ann Kirkpatrick Balcom, 67, of Lorain, Ohio, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 17, 1933, in Cleveland, she had lived in Baltimore, Wausau, Wis., and Chattanooga, Tenn., before moving to Lorain in 1975. She graduated from the College of St. Scholastica Department of Nursing in Duluth in 1955. She was a staff nurse and assistant head nurse at University of Minnesota Hospital and later a staff nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

In Lorain, she was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer; Lakeland Women's Club, where she was a past president from 1997-1998; the Colony Club; and Sorosis, where she also was a past president. She was also a member of a professional nursing honor society.

Surviving is her husband of 45 years, Paul C. Balcom; a son, Steven of Center Barnstead, N.H.; daughters Pamela Balcom Oberg of North Olmsted, Ohio, and Karen Hatfield of Mentor-On-The-Lake, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The family will also receive friends from 10 until the 10:30 a.m. service Thursday in Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. Burial in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Ohio.

Miriam Garon
Miriam Garon, 93, formerly of Duluth died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Overland Park, Kan.
She was born in Lithuania and came to America in 1939. She moved to Duluth in 1942 and married Himan Garon, who preceded her in death in 1988.

She was a member of Adas Israel congregation, its Sisterhood and Bnai Brith.

She is survived by a daughter, Char Garon of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and Debbie Garon of Overland Park; a grandson, Robert Garon of Overland Park; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Adas Israel cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.

John L. Butler III
John L. Butler III, 19, of East Eighth Street drowned Saturday, July 7, 2001, while swimming in the Thompson River near Carlton.
He was born June 9, 1982, to John L. Butler Jr. and Susan Bills in Duluth. John graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School on June 7, 2001, and was involved with the Navy ROTC program.

John loved cars. He enjoyed working on them, driving, and on Sundays watching NASCAR with his father. He enjoyed all sports, especially playing and watching football. John was an animal lover and leaves behind his three dogs, Sam, Oreo and Brownie.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Kathleen Bills.

John had a heart of gold and a love for life that will be sadly missed by his mother, Susan Bills, and his father, John L. Butler Jr.; his brothers, Lenny Petite Jr. and Kevin Petite, all of Duluth; his paternal aunts and uncles, Ben P. Butler and Cass Carr of Duluth, and Annie Butler of Cambridge, Mass.; his maternal aunts and uncles, William Bills of Superior, Mary Glapa, Carol Danielson, Robert Bills, Peggy Pogorelec and Shirley Bills, all of Duluth; and many wonderful cousins and friends.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until the 1 p.m. service Thursday in Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Burial in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

Constance Limoseth
Constance Limoseth, 62, of Duluth passed away Thursday, June 28, 2001, in Pompano Beach, Fla.
Connie was born in Lewiston, Maine, in 1938 and moved to Minnesota in 1959. She lived most of her life in Duluth until recently moving full-time to Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; and a brother, Bob.

Connie is survived by sons Dan (Jean) Limoseth, Dave Limoseth, Jim (Deb) Garvin, and Scott (Kathy) Limoseth; a brother; five sisters; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Connie was a loving mother and grandmother, and softly touched the hearts of so many people in her life. We will all dearly miss her.
Please join us in a memorial service for Connie at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Church.

Jennie (Lillian) Gunderson
Jennie (Lillian) Gunderson, 69, of Norton Park in West Duluth passed away Sunday, July 8, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center in the presence of her family after a three-month battle with kidney cancer.
Lillian was born in Duluth on Dec. 6, 1931, to her Finnish immigrant parents, John and Jenny Anderson. She graduated from Denfeld High School in 1949. She worked at Klearflax and at Oliver Mining Co. in the Wovin Building doing office work until her marriage to Donald P. Gunderson in July of 1959. She worked as an election judge in recent years.

She was a lifelong member of Elim Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren, working in her flower gardens and staying in touch with her Swede-Finn relatives in Finland through letters, calls and visits. She spoke and wrote fluent Swedish.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; sons Bruce (Carol) and Brian (Denise) Gunderson of Duluth; grandchildren Jamie, Keith and Kristi; and numerous relatives in Finland.

Lillian will be greatly missed by her family, friends and relatives.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in Elim Lutheran Church. Burial in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

Dolores Frances Knudsen
Dolores Frances Knudsen of Anderson Road died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in her home.
She was born in Eveleth on July 29 to Leo and Margaret (Heatherston) Braun. Dolores was raised in Proctor and was a Proctor High School graduate. Following high school she attended beauty school in Duluth and was employed at a salon in Proctor. On Oct. 12, 1942, she married Einar Gustav Knudsen in Duluth and together they raised four children.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lorraine Newton; and brothers Leo Braun Jr. and Raymond Braun.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Einar of Duluth; a daughter, Margaret Peters (Mike Booker) of Duluth; sons Edward (Susan) Knudsen of Duluth, Dale (Shirley) Knudsen of Spring Lake Park, Minn., and Mark (Debbie) Knudsen of Proctor; grandchildren Richmond Peters, Lorene (Richard) Wimmer, Doreen (Steve) Ruhanen, Laura (Todd) Rothe, Michael Knudsen, Aaron Knudsen, Angela Knudsen, Melissa Knudsen, Tim (Joni) Knudsen and Terri (Rick) Mueller; and great-grandchildren Tristan, Mariah and Taitan Ruhanen, Cassie Wimmer, Miranda Rothe, Hattie and Emma Knudsen, and Nicholaus Mueller.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Thursday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Duluth Heights. Interment in Oneota cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St.
