DELORES M. KATZBAHN
Delores M. Katzbahn, 77, formerly of Stebner Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Lakeshore Lutheran Home.
She was born in Barnum, the daughter of Ermal and Ernest Kirchhof. She was a graduate of Barnum High School. Delores was formerly employed by Carlton Nursing Home, and she enjoyed quilting and embroidery. She will be sadly missed by her friends and family.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Walter, in 1999; her daughter, Sandra L. (Munter) Bergstrom in 1994; brothers Delene and Deland "Bud" Kirchhof; and a sister, Delma Mulvahill.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie Anderson (Lyle) Fossum of Minnetonka, Minn., and Debbie Anderson (Donald) Montgomery and Karen Munter Johnson, both of Duluth; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
VISITATION: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Saturday in Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E. Second St., Superior. Arrangements by Fred Olson Mortuary, Duluth.

MICHAEL JOHN CASHIN
Michael John Cashin, 57, of North Ninth Avenue East died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in his home.
Michael was born in Duluth on March 31, 1944, and had been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Duluth Central High School and had served in the Army in Vietnam. Michael was formerly employed with U.S. Steel, Chroma Glo, and was most recently employed by Duluth.

He was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and John Cashin.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca (Kindel); a son, John (Erika) of Oak Creek, Wis.; a daughter, Stefani (Dan) Wiley of St. Paul; grandchildren Cameron and Delaney; sisters Judy (Earl) Jahr, Patsy Cashin and Patsy Griffin, all of Duluth; and several nieces and nephews.
SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Benedict's Catholic Church. Burial in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.

EVERETT M. MARPLE
Everett M. Marple, 90, of Greenwood Road died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
Everett was born Aug. 10, 1911, at home in Lawrence Township near Wendell, Minn., to Ernest and Flora Marple. He attended the Agriculture School in Morris, Minn. He married Alice Hansen on July 27, 1940. He farmed in Grant County until 1958, when he and Alice moved to their current home near French River. He was the owner/operator of Lakeview Cleaners until his retirement in 1977.

Everett was a former member of the Lakeside Business Club and a member of French River Lutheran Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting. He was also an enthusiastic gardener who shared his bounty with many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Merle Amundson.

Everett is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice; daughters Joan Moldenhauer of Jamestown, N.D., and Tamara (Brian) Morse of Duluth; sons Allen "Butch" (Beverly) of Wasilla, Alaska, Darwin (Maureen) of Duluth, Thomas (Michele) of Mandan, N.D., and Kurt (Elaine) of Buffalo, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters Elva Pladson of Fergus Falls, Minn., Fern Froeming of Orlando, Fla., Ardith Knotts of Washington, D.C., and Deloris Harpster of Mankato, Minn.
VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in French River Lutheran Church. Entombment in Sunrise Memorial Park. A special thank you to the staff on Nine West of St. Mary's Medical Center. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St.

ELNA B. HEITSCH
Elna B. Heitsch, 89, of Westberg Road, Hermantown, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital.
She was born in Ivanhoe, Minn., on Dec. 22, 1911, to Christian and Marie (Johnson) Larsen. In the mid-1930s, Elna moved to Duluth and was an accountant/bookkeeper for a local accounting firm. On Aug. 31, 1939, she married H. Chester Heitsch in Duluth and together they raised two children.

Mrs. Heitsch was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and active in its Alter Guild. She was a member of the Lakeside Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and active in the Glendale Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H. Chester, in 1988; and three sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Tom) Brown of Duluth; a son, James R. (Catherine) Heitsch of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; grandchildren Justin J. Heitsch, Nicole C. Eliason, Sarah Smith and Matthew Brown; and a great-grandson, Treis Heitsch.
A PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICEwill be held. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Treatment and Research Center, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55101. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St.

GRACE ESTELLE (CURTIS) EVANS
Grace E. (Curtis) Evans, 71, of Duluth, formerly of Floodwood, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born July 24, 1930, in Cloquet to Leighton and Stella (Tuenge) Stone. She moved to Floodwood in the 1940s, to Duluth in the late 1960s, to Oklahoma in 1981 and back to Duluth in 1991. Throughout her lifetime, she operated the Curtis Cafe in Floodwood, was a successful Avon representative and enjoyed many years of employment at the West Duluth Moose Lodge 1478.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur Evans; brothers Raymond and Joseph Stone; and a grandson, Mark Gibson.

She is survived by her sons, John (Therese Baum) Curtis and Michael (Marjorie) Gibson, both of Duluth; daughters Lynn (Al Graff) Freeman of Prairie Lake, Minn., and Gloria (Jeff Moen) Olson of Cloquet; grandchildren Joe, Nichole, Jennifer and Sarah Curtis, Michael and Matt Gibson, Carmen O'Day, Lacey Olson, Brian and Darin Karkiainen, Chad, Jamie and A.J. Freeman, and Kimberly Borg; 13 great-grandchildren; and special friends Twyla Oestriech, and Jeff and Betty Voeltz.
VISITATION: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Friday in Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet. Interment service in Maple Grove cemetery, Cloquet. Luncheon will follow in the funeral home reception area. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care.

EDNA IRENE MAGNUSON
Edna Irene Magnuson, 84, of Duluth died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001.
She was born Oct. 5, 1916, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Brown) Rose.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Toivo; and brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her children, Charles (Patricia) Isaacson of Duluth, Robert Isaacson of Idaho, Alys Johnson of Meadowlands, Minn., James Omtvedt of Tennessee and Anne O'Hara of Duluth; 22 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Salgy of Duluth; and brothers Norman (Bernice) Rose and Otto (Eleanor) Rose, both of Duluth.
VISITATION:
1:30 until the 2:30 p.m. service Thursday in Johnson Mortuary. Interment at 10 a.m. Friday in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

MARY JEAN EKMAN
Mary Jean Ekman, 66, of St. Paul, formerly of Duluth died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, in Unity Hospital.
Survivors include her sisters, Nancy (Don) Melander and Jean (Tom) Brozic, both of Duluth; and a brother, John Nichols of St. Cloud, Minn.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS:
5:30 until the 6:30 p.m. memorial service Oct. 2 in Fairmount United Methodist Church, 1523 Fairmount Ave., St. Paul. A reception in the church hall will follow the service. Interment in Park Hill cemetery, Duluth. Memorials preferred to Fairmount United Methodist Church or donor's choice. Arrangements by Holcomb-Henry-Boom Funeral Home.

THOMAS RONALD MENZEL
Thomas Ronald Menzel, 69, died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospice Care, surrounded by family and friends.
Tom was born March 26, 1932, to Carl and Marie (Nephew) Menzel in Duluth. He attended Denfeld and Proctor High Schools and joined the Air Force, serving in the Korean War. He returned to Duluth in 1962. He married Patricia (Elwood) Menzel in 1963. He will be missed by both his family and many friends.

He was passionate and active in his beliefs. He was a member of emphysema support groups and an advocate of research in alternative health care. He touched many lives.

Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Douglas (Rosemary) and Patrick.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia; his children, Debbie (Jim) Heinze of Phoenix, Vicky (Dan) Anderson of McPherson, Kan., Cheryl of Duluth, Ronald of Minneapolis and Valerie of Duluth; grandchildren Corry of Phoenix, and Miranda, Natalie, Libby and Camille of McPherson; a sister, Carol (Bernie) Banks of Grand Forks, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
PRAYER LUNCHEON:
2 p.m. Wednesday in the fellowship hall in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 4831 Grand Ave. In lieu of flowers, Tom requested that donations be made to the National Jewish Medical and Research Center or St. Luke's Hospice Care. Services entrusted to the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 624-5200.

MICHAEL D. LOVE
Michael D. Love, 44, of West Arrowhead Road died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was born in Kansas City, Kan., and lived in Duluth since the early 1990s.

Michael is survived three sons; a daughter; and the RSI staff and clients.
Memorial service:
3 p.m. Wednesday in Jarvi-Dowd Chapel, 925 E. Fourth St.
