MARIE (LINDBERG) LARSON
Marie A. Larson passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, in Everett, Wash.
She was born to John and May Lindberg and moved to Duluth at an early age. She graduated from Central High School in 1934. Marie married Arthur Larson, a 1934 Denfeld graduate, on Sept. 20, 1941. Later they moved to Skagway, Alaska, and then to Everett in 1951.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Sam Lindberg.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur; three children and their spouses, sons Tim and Russ of Everett and daughter, Janice Sullivan of Seattle; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Lindberg of Duluth; a sister-in-law, Ethel Lindberg of Florida.

EDWIN WILLIAM OLSON
Edwin William Olson, 74, of Colby, Wis., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in the House of the Dove, Marshfield, Wis.
He was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Duluth, the son of Edwin W. Sr. and Bernice (Peterson) Olson. Edwin attended Munger Elementary School and was a graduate of Central High School in Duluth. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth, majoring in business. He served his country in the Air Force.

Edwin and the former Jeanine H. Hagen were united in marriage on Aug. 18, 1956. The young couple moved to Unity in 1963, and had lived in Colby since 1988. Edwin was employed with Grassland Dairy in Greenwood as vice president of sales and marketing for 20 years. He loved being with his family, good conversation and was a golfer. Edwin was a kind and loving father to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Jeannine, on July 18, 1978.

Edwin will be sadly missed by his daughters, Susan (Ron) Landwehr and Nancy (Al) Meyer, both of Colby; a brother, Donald (Betty) Olson of Duluth; grandchildren April, Erin, Eric, Jessie and Nicholas; a great-grandchild, Blake; and special family friends Keith "Buck, " Lori, Justin and Jenny Michlig, all of Abbotsford, Wis.
VISITATION: 6 until the 8 p.m. service today in Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, the Rev. Kenneth A. Dix officiating. Inurnment in Colby Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Maurina Funeral Home of Abbotsford.

MINDA BERTHEA (JOHNSON) MOE
Centenarian
Minda Berthea (Johnson) Moe passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001. She celebrated 100 years of life.
Born Aug. 19, 1901, to Carl Johan Johnson and Maria Gunilda (Paulson) Johnson in Benson, Minn., she grew up in Culver, Minn., with her sister, Cora (Johnson) Larson and brothers, Adolph and Orvin Johnson, all of whom have passed away.

After moving to Duluth, she met and married Edgar Clifford Moe, who passed away in June 1966. They had two daughters that survive her, Margaret Persgard of Fridley, Minn., and Joyce Lyden of Duluth.

She moved to the Twin Cities and lived with her grandson, Richard Lyden and his family, and later with her daughter, Margaret. She then moved to the Presbyterian Homes of Arden Hills, where she was loved by staff and residents alike.

She is sadly missed but her life is celebrated by her two daughters; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, 1108 E. Eighth St., Duluth. Interment will be private. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

CATHERINE C. CHUTE
Catherine C. Chute, 88, formerly of Tri Towers, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in Benedictine Health Center.
She was born in Grand Marais, the daughter of Chris and Kia Johnson. Catherine was a resident of Duluth for the past 69 years. She was employed by St. Luke's hospital, retiring in 1975.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; an infant son; a daughter, Shirley, and son-in-law, Archie Lucia; sisters Ida and Signi; and brothers Clarence, Earl, Roger and Bjarnie.

She is survived by a son, Robert Chute of Duluth; daughters Patsy (Andy) Anderson of Duluth and Lois (Jerry) Carlson of Orangeville, Utah; a brother, Gordon of Washington; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
VISITATION: 9:30 until the 10 a.m. service today in Johnson Mortuary. Burial in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

LILLIAN "LOLLY" NYHOLM
Lillian "Lolly" Nyholm, 88, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Duluth, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001.
She is survived by her special niece, Ellen Hujanen of Tower.
INURNMENT was held Dec. 17, 2001, in Eveleth cemetery. Arrangements by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home.

ROGER GENE KRATT
Roger Gene Kratt, 66, of East Second Street died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, in his residence.
He was a lifelong Duluth resident and an Air Force veteran. He was a retired electrician and was a member of the IBEW.

Roger was preceded in death by his father, Reinhold.

He is survived by his sons, Brett Kratt of Proctor and Burton Kratt of Saginaw; his mother, Ida Johnson of Hermantown; a sister, Margaret (Robert) Kanuit of Duluth; a brother, Wayne (Nancy) Kratt of Saginaw; grandsons Ryan and Kyle; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held at a later date. At Roger's request, his body was donated to the University of Minnesota Bequest Program. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors-Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

MARGARET MARY "MARDY" MILLER CRAWFORD
Margaret Mary "Mardy" Miller Crawford, 81, of London Road, formerly of Barrs Lake Road, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital.
She was born June 15, 1920, to Arthur Seymour and Jessie Mae (MacLellan) Miller, who owned and operated Millers Cafeteria in Duluth. Mardy attended Washburn Elementary, East Junior High School and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1939. After high school, Mardy graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., in 1941 with an associate of arts degree.

Mardy married James Park Crawford Jan. 3, 1942, in Duluth. Throughout her lifetime Mardy was very active in the Republican Party, Junior League and raising five children. She loved the outdoors, gardening, cooking, and being with her family. She was instrumental in creating and was a past member of the "Old Fashioneds" and the Red Flannels. She was a past member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church, Junior League Sustainers, Northland Country Club and Ridgeview Country Club.

Mardy was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Jessie Miller; a brother, Bruce Miller; a sister, Ann Miller Johnson, and her baby sister, Joan Miller.

She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, James Park Crawford; a son, James Park Crawford II (Susan Jacobson Korkki) of Minneapolis; daughters Margaret Mary Crawford Fawcett, Alexandra VanBergen Crawford, Joan Miller Crawford and Ann (Barry) Crawford Brooks, all of Duluth; grandchildren, Alicia Briggs Fawcett of San Rafael, Calif., Krista MacLellan (Don Bakken) Fawcett of Lindstrom, Minn., and Jason Crawford Fawcett of Anchorage, Alaska, Steven Herbert (Cherie Honkala) Young of Cloquet and Mardy Crawford (Myron) Maki of Cloquet; great-grandchildren Brittany and James Young, both of Saginaw, Tucker John Bakken of Lindstrom, Minn., and Tyler Tow of Cloquet; a brother, Bud (Dorothy) Miller of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a cousin, Janet (Van) Heimbach of Canyon.
VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in Crawford Funeral Chapel, where it continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Memorials may be made to the North Star Township Volunteer Fire Department.

JOSEPH W. STAINBROOK SR.
Joseph W. Stainbrook Sr., 66, of Selfridge Drive died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, after a courageous battle with liver cancer.
He was loved by all of us and will miss him greatly. He was born Aug. 19, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., to parents Joseph and Irene Frank Stainbrook. Joseph was a 1954 graduate of Mansfield (Ohio) High School, where he was active in many sports. He had honorable discharges from both the Air Force, being based at the Duluth Air Base and foreign service in Okinawa, Japan, and from the Navy with Atlantic Fleet Antisubmarine Squadron 22, aboard the USS Essex as a crewmember on the S-2E Tracker aircraft. He had retired as branch manager for Loomis Armored Car, Duluth.

Joseph attended Fredenberg Community Chapel and was a volunteer server for the Community Thanksgiving in Duluth. He had a great love for the outdoors and traveled annually to Yellowstone National Park.

His father preceded him in death.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Marlys; sons Joseph Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Michael (Patty) of Duluth and Quint (Kris) of Esko; daughters Tami (Fred) Sylvester of Hermantown and Stephanie Lund of Lake Elmo, Minn.; stepdaughter Kristine Matheus of St. Paul; stepson Jason Turner of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; his mother, Irene (Clifford) Kelley of Alamo, Texas; brothers Alan (Huyen) Kelley of Omaha, Neb., Pat (Janiece) Kelley of North Platte, Neb., and Charles (Connie) Kelley of Alliance, Neb.; sister Nancy (Charles) Mahoney of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear friends, Bruce, Shannon, Liz, Debbie, Denise, Linda, Tess, Violet and Gretchen at Transitional Senior Housing, 1609 Piedmont Ave., Duluth.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home, and continues from noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in Fredenberg Community Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fredenberg Community Chapel.

FLORENCE JOSEPHINE (SMIGLEWSKI) BABCOCK
Florence Josephine (Smiglewski) Babcock, 91, longtime resident of Duluth, passed away at the Benedictine Health Center on Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, 2001.
She is survived by a sister; a brother; five children; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

LUCILLE MAE LESCH (CODY)
Lucille Mae Lesch (Cody), 71, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, in Carson City, Nev.
She was born on March 5, 1930, in Trout Creek, Mich., to Henry and Alvina (Honswitz) Cody. She lived in Duluth the majority of her years before moving to Carson City, Nev.

Lucille was a homemaker and mother, and worked as a lead supervisor for Jeno's for nine years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Lucille was a very loving person and would help anyone in need.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Adolph Lesch; parents Henry and Alvina Cody; a sister, Florence Jensen; and brothers Henry, Charles and John Cody.

She is survived by her children, Diane (Don) Smith of Duluth, Barb (Steve) Bennett of Placerville, Calif., Robert (Cheryl) Lesch of Carson City, David Lesch of Fernley, Nev., Susan (Barry) Lesch and Karen Lesch of Carson City; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeanette Miller of International Falls; brothers William (Mary Jo) Cody of Barnes, Wis., and Donald Cody of Big Falls, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.
NO SERVICE. Cremation will be done by Fritz Henrys Funeral Home of Carson City.
