MILDRED LUCILLE HAGEN
Mildred Lucille Hagen, 89, of Greysolon Plaza died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Sebeka, Minn., to Albert E. and Caroline (Peterson) Cohrs and had been a Duluth resident since 1935. She married Maurice E. Hagen in the spring of 1933. She was hired by Mr. Chris Jensen and had worked as a laundress at the former Cook Home and at Chris Jensen, retiring in April of 1976.

Mildred played piano and organ at many Duluth churches and organized functions, at Duluth's senior centers and at Greysolon Plaza's Saturday night sing-alongs.

Mildred was preceded in death by her mother when Mildred was four; her father, Albert, and stepmother, Sadie (Halverson) Cohrs; an infant sister, Gladys Irene; and her husband, Maurice, in 1952.

Survivors include her sons, Dale (Joanne) of Duluth, Maurice (Kathy) of Luverne, Minn., and Stephen (Jean) of Minneapolis; her brother, Alan (Vi) Cohrs of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Carolyn King of Seattle; and other nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Sunday and continues from 12:30 until the 1 p.m. service Monday, all in Bell Brothers Chapel, the Rev. Lonnie Lassman officiating. Burial in Sunrise Memorial Park cemetery, Hermantown. Memorials to the donor's choice appreciated. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.

SIGRID C. GELLERSTEDT
Sigrid C. Gellerstedt, 91, formerly of Cotton, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, in Chris Jensen Nursing Home in Duluth.
She was born on April 20, 1910, to Sigurd and Louise Gellerstedt. She lived most of her life in Cotton where she was the switchboard operator for 41 years. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years. In 1975, she received the WCCO radio Good Neighbor Award for outstanding service to her community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Helge, Louis, Arnold and Carmen; and a nephew, James.

She is survived by brothers Harold (Mary) of Duluth and Edgar (Ardell) of Minnetonka; nephews Roger (Jan), David (Carol), Jerry (Marcie), George (Kathy) and Roger Gellerstedt; nieces JoAnn (George) Netzel and Karen (Paul) Pitts; several grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and friends.
VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday in Cotton Community Church, Cotton. Donations may be made in her memory to the Cotton Community Church. Arrangements by Fred Olson Mortuary.

KATHRYN ELIZABETH BREU (GOTTSACKER)
Kathryn Elizabeth Breu (Gottsacker), 95, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in her home at Heritage Haven in Duluth.
Kathryn was born on Nov. 8, 1906, in Sheboygan, Wis., to John and Elizabeth (Gerend) Gottsacker. She graduated from Holy Name School and Central High School in Sheboygan. After high school, she attended Milwaukee State Teachers College in 1926. Kathryn taught kindergarten in Sheboygan for seven years at the Longfellow School and 6 years at Horace Mann School. She lived at 911 St. James Court in Sheboygan until her marriage on Oct. 26, 1940, to Theodore Michael Breu at Holy Name Church with the Monsignor Philipp Dreis officiating. She lived in Kohler, Wis., from 1940 until 1996. For the last two years, she lived at Heritage Haven in Duluth and the prior three years she lived at Royalton Manor in Superior.

She was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Kohler, St. Ann's Alter Society of the Church, the Mission Society, the Kohler Woman's Club, Rocky Knoll Visiting Service Committee, and a volunteer at the Sheboygan County Comprehensive Center.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore M. Breu Sr.; sisters Gertrude Frederick and Margaret St. John.

She is survived by her son, Theodore (Evelyn) Breu of Duluth; and grandchildren Michael Breu of San Francisco, and Laura Breu of Madison, Wis.
MEMORIAL MASS: 10 a.m. Monday in Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Duluth. Visitation from noon until the 1 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Thursday in St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, Kohler. Interment in Calvary cemetery, Sheboygan. Arrangements are by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.

JOHN PATRICK "JACK" HAMPSTON
John Patrick "Jack" Hampston, 59, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, in the Duluth house in which he grew up, with his family and beloved dog, "Buddy, " by his side.
Born in Chicago on June 5, 1942, Jack attended St. Jean's elementary and junior high school in Duluth and graduated from Duluth Denfeld in 1960. He served in the Navy and later worked on ore carriers on the Great Lakes, co-managed the old Paul Bunyan Bar and operated heavy equipment for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway.

Jack loved to write poetry. He lived life to the rhythms of Elvis Presley and became a legendary character in the downtown Duluth bars, where he was known as "The King." He beat cancer twice in the early 80s and 90s, but the liver cancer he was diagnosed with this past July could not be overcome. In the last three months of his life, Jack made his peace with God and took comfort in his family, who cared for him at home with the help of St. Mary's Medical Center Hospice. He died with great courage and dignity.

He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Hampston.

Jack is survived by his mother, Marguerite Bourassa; sisters Mary Kay Kanninen (Benjamin) of Apple Valley, Minn., and Claudia Daly (Stan Kusunoki) of St. Paul; a brother, Quinlan Michael (Sharon Salo) of Duluth; a niece, Rebecca Kanninen Klett (Sean); nephews Robert (Char) and John Hampston of Duluth, Patrick (Julie) and Sean Daly of Duluth, Michael Daly of St. Paul, and Daniel Kanninen of Madison, Wis.; three grandnieces; and two grandnephews.
VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. requiem Mass Thursday in Holy Family Catholic Church, 25th Avenue West and Third Street. Interment Dec. 28 in Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St.

ROBERT R. SEBISKY
Robert R. Sebisky, 79, of Duluth passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in Nopeming Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Duluth to Rudolph and Agnes (Brown) Sebisky.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Lillian Turpin of Duluth; and many nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 1-2 p.m. Friday in Wefelmeyer-Handevidt Funeral Home, 1506 Washington Ave., Cloquet, (218) 879-6741, followed by graveside service in New Calvary cemetery, Cloquet.

CATHERINE C. CHUTE
Catherine C. Chute, 88, formerly of Tri Towers, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in Benedictine Health Center.
She was born in Grand Marais, the daughter of Chris and Kia Johnson. Catherine was a resident of Duluth for the past 69 years. She was employed by St. Luke's hospital, retiring in 1975.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy; an infant son; sisters Ida and Signi; and brothers Clarence, Earl, Roger and Bjarnie.

She is survived by a son, Robert Chute of Duluth; daughters Patsy (Andy) Anderson of Duluth and Lois (Jerry) Carlson of Orangeville, Utah; a brother, Gordon of Washington; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
VISITATION: 9:30 until the 10 a.m. service Friday in Johnson Mortuary. Burial in Park Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

CLARENCE MARVIN SWENSEN
Clarence Marvin Swensen, 78, of French River died unexpectedly at home Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001.
Marv was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Duluth to Christian and Inga Swensen. He was a stonemason with his father, a lifetime member of the International Bricklayers Union 3, and a former union president, a longtime fireman and former chief of the Clifton Volunteer Fire Department. He was a commercial fisherman and CEO of North Bank Fisheries for 50 years, a World War II veteran, member of the American Legion Post 571, belonged to the Civilian Conservation Corps' Camp 712 from 1939-42, when he enlisted in the Navy. In his youth, he was a ski jumper with the Duluth Ski Club.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Adeline; sons Dennis (JoAnn) of Two Harbors and Ken of Knife River; a daughter, Anita (Goldie) of French River; granddaughter and the light of his life, Ashley (who Boppa always called Oscar) of Two Harbors; a sister, Esther Hubbell of Rochester, Minn.; three nieces; and two nephews.
VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today in Johnson Mortuary. Service at 1:30 p.m. Friday in French River Lutheran Church. Interment in Lakeview Palmers cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Clifton Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

INA "MAE" (POTTER) MORGAN
Ina "Mae" (Potter) Morgan, 52, formerly of Duluth passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, in her Milwaukee home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mae was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Potter Sr.; and loving niece Kyrah Potter.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie Morgan; daughter Fawn Noviello; mother Ruth Joiner; stepfather Thurmond Joiner; sisters Dorothy (Bobby) Steele and Patty Potter; brothers Wallace Potter Jr., and Anthony (Rhonda) Potter; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mae will truly be missed by all who knew her.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m. Saturday in Golden Gate Funeral Home and Cremation, 5665 N. Teutonia Ave., Milwaukee, Wis.

VERNON B. RUDD
Vernon B. Rudd, 78, of Tanglewood Manor, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, in the nursing home.
He was born in Duluth on Dec. 15, 1922, the son of Arthur and Frances Rudd. Vernon had been a Jamestown area resident since 1974, and a 25-year employee of Jamestown Plastics.

Vernon was a member of Moose Lodge and social member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion in Celoron, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Donald A. Rudd.

Survivors include his daughter, Darlene Downs of Clarkston, Wash.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Thelma Johnson of Ashville, N.Y.

Vernon will be sadly missed by his special friends in Duluth.
PRIVATE MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held later in Sunrise cemetery, Duluth.
