She is survived by a brother, James (Patricia) Scanlon; sisters Helen Griffin and Lorraine (Raymond) Sundet; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Scanlon.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood cemetery, Superior. Arrangements by Downs Funeral Home.

Clara Ann Ukkola
Clara Ann Ukkola, 57, of Maple died Monday, April 16, 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold "Sonny"; daughters Carol (William) Abrahamzon, Diane (David) Munger and Susan (Carlos) Vasquez; eight grandchildren; her parents; two sisters; a brother; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 5 p.m. today and continues until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in Downs Funeral Home. Interment in Maple Apostolic Lutheran cemetery.

Arnold J. Fredrikson
Arnold J. Fredrikson, 80, longtime East End resident, formerly of Ashland, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in his residence.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Beauregard Fredrikson (Duane) Ohman; a sister, Gladys Lindblad; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.
Visitation: 5 p.m. Wednesday with a 6 p.m. scripture service in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. Funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial in St. Francis cemetery.

Teresa C. (Nadolski) Burlaga
Teresa C. (Nadolski) Burlaga, 97, of Superior died Monday, April 9, 2001.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Jean) Burlaga; a daughter, Irene (Thomas) Farrell; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 11:30 a.m. until the noon memorial service Thursday in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment in St. Francis cemetery. Arrangements by Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home.

James E. Willoughby
James E. Willoughby, 74, of Foxboro died Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Ill.
He was born June 16, 1926, in Superior, and was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. He married Myrna G. Stewart on June 4, 1949. He was employed as a switchman/brakeman for 43 years starting with the Great Northern and then the Burlington Northern Railroad.

Mr. Willoughby was a member of Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, the United Transportation Union and a life member of the former Henry S. Blomberg VFW Post 847, now known as Thomas F. Stein VFW Post 1091.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Mary Eleanor Belle (Van Voris) Willoughby; and a brother, Carl Willoughby.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna; sons Daniel (Nancy) Willoughby of Columbus, Ohio, and Douglas Willoughby of Salem, Ore.; daughters Cindy Lloyd of Norcross, Ga., Cheryl (John) Wick of Mazomanie, Wis., Gail (Tom) Spellings of Dyer, Tenn., and Diane (Tim) Wickstrom of Hibbing; grandchildren Sara Andrus, Thomas Lloyd, Jessica (Donnie) Taylor, Angus, Bill, Johanna and Mary Wick, Thomas, Jamie and David Spellings and Cory Wickstrom; a great-granddaughter, Sierra Andrus; a brother, Donald (Shirley) Willoughby of Shoreview, Minn.; and sisters Alice (Lawrence) Berge of Casper, Wyo., and Mary Eleanor (David) Bailey of Ironton, Ohio.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today in Downs Funeral Home. Service at 11 a.m. Thursday in Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, the Rev. Mark Holmes officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by Thomas F. Stein VFW Post 1091 in Veteran's Memorial Park, Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers will be Willy Silvernale, Donnie Taylor, Angus Wick, Bill Wick, Thomas Lloyd and Cory Wickstrom.

Hazel Irene Nault
Hazel Irene Nault, 92, of Superior, died Friday, April 6, 2001.
Survivors include a nephew, Allen "Steve" Iverson; a niece, Marilyn Iverson; six grandnieces; and 11 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; other family and friends.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Monday in Concordia Lutheran Church. Burial in Greenwood cemetery. Memorials to Concordia Lutheran Church. Arrangements by William Downs-LeSage Funeral Home.

Alexander "Alex" Mikkola
Alexander "Alex" Mikkola, 82, of Superior, formerly of Brule, died Saturday, April 7, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; sons Dale of Duluth and Dennis of Madison, Wis.; a brother, Vernon Mikkola; and granddaughters Melissa (Ryan) Toonen and Lindsay Mikkola.
Visitation: 11 until the noon memorial service Wednesday in Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. Inurnment in Everest cemetery, Waino, Wis., at a later date.

June A. Anderson
June A. Anderson, 51, of Homecroft Court died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital of Superior, following a lifelong illness.
She is survived by her husband, Howard; a daughter, Lori Anderson; her mother, Mary Johnansen; a brother; five sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m. service Saturday in Downs Funeral Home, the Rev. Ronald Olson of Holy Assumption Catholic Church officiating. Interment in Calvary cemetery.

Marie E. Tollefson
Marie E. Tollefson of Ogden Avenue died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital of Superior.
She is survived by sons Clarence (Donna) Tollefson of Solon Springs and Larry of Superior; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers Earl (Rose) McCain of Superior and Clyde McCain of Eau Claire.
Visitation: noon until the 1:30 p.m. service Monday in Christ Lutheran Church. Burial in Graceland cemetery. Arrangements by Downs Funeral Home.

Raymond "Mac" McNaughton
Raymond "Mac" McNaughton, 72, of Tower Avenue died Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
He is survived by his sons, Mike of Chicago, and Jack of Superior; daughters Myra McNaughton of Sheboygan, Wis., and Cindy (Gary) King of Superior; a brother; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday in Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home. Myra McNaughton will preside at the service with inurnment to follow in Greenwood cemetery.

Ruby E. Rein
Ruby E. Rein, 85, of Superior died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
She is survived by sons Elmer (Carrie) Rein and Ernie (Darlene) Rein; brothers Bob (Bobbie) Nelson, Don Nelson, Floyd (Geri) Nelson, Art Nelson and Norman (Phyllis) Hanson; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
No public services. Arrangements by Downs-LeSage Funeral Home.

Harold E. Wedenoja
Harold E. Wedenoja, 76, of Superior died Monday, April 2, 2001.
Harold is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Craig) Petersburg; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his loving friend, Elsie Wick; a sister, Beverly (Wesley) Willoughby; a brother, Melvin (Karen) Wedenoja; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-6 p.m. Friday in Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, Superior. Private graveside service at a later date. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Gilbert "Gil" Benjamin Matero
Gilbert "Gil" Matero, 71, of Weeks Avenue, Superior died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis.
Gil and family lived in the Hurley area for 23 years. He owned and operated Matero's Furniture Refinishing before moving to Superior in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pastor Herman Matero and Bertha Matero-Anderson; a son, Paul Joseph "PJ" Matero; a brother, Phillip Matero; and a sister, Irene St. Andrews.

He is survived in life by his wife, Regent; daughters Kathie Zavala, Charlene Matero and MJ Matero; granddaughters Lyn Voss, Kristen Pantoja, Jennifer Lesemann; four great-grandchildren; siblings Helga Sutton, Gus Matero, Ruth Quint, Sylvia Setala and Paul Matero.

His wisdom, wit and friendship will be greatly missed by his family.

Memorial services were held: March 24 in Werness Brothers Chapel, 3700 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis.

Robert L. Larson
Robert L. Larson, 77, of Billings Park passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in his residence.
Robert is survived by his wife, Elaine; a daughter, Pamela (David) Oviatt; a son, Skip (Karen) Larson; a sister, Lois (Walter) Erickson; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Downs Funeral Home.

Margaret O. Leland
Margaret O. Leland, 79, of Superior died Saturday, March 3, 2001.
She is survived by daughters Christine (Bob Cleveland) Leland and Suzanne (Mark) Matthews; a sister; three grandchildren; and many other relatives.
Visitation: 5 p.m. today in Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home and noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in Concordia Lutheran Church. Interment in Riverside cemetery. Memorials to Concordia Lutheran Church or Lake Superior Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
