Lillian A. (Laakso) Coda
Lillian A. (Laakso) Coda, 89, of Grand Avenue passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2001.
Lillian is survived by her husband, Leo; a brother, Ray (Agnes) Laakso, of Oulu; a sister, Auni Maki, of Esko; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. Interment in Hillcrest cemetery, Oulu.

Judy Ann Kimmes
Judy Ann Kimmes, 50, a lifelong Superior resident, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001.
Judy is survived by sons Craig (Laurie) Plauff and Steve (Amy) Kimmes; a daughter, Denise (Mark) Sanders; her mother, Betty Kimmes; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothers; three sisters; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Bernice Plasch.
Visitation: 5 until the 6:30 p.m. Scripture Service Sunday and 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in William Downs-LeSage Funeral Home.

Sadie Salnick
Sadie Salnick, 88, of Superior died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Waukesha Memorial Hospital in Waukesha, Wis.
She was born July 11, 1912, to Hyman and Rose (Green) London in Duluth. Sadie grew up in Duluth and married Nimie Salnick in 1939. The couple later moved to Superior. She was a mother, homemaker and a member of the Hebrew Brotherhood Synagogue in Superior. Sadie was a wonderful baker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nimie, in 1994; brothers Ben and Bert London; and sisters Sarah Taren and Lillian London.

Sadie is survived by her son, Robert "Bob" (Shirley) Salnick of Brookfield, Wis.; grandchildren Adam, Michael and Ben, all of Brookfield; a brother, I.B. London of Minneapolis; her son Robert's mother-in-law and brother-in-law, Frieda Barbara Fishman of Milwaukee and Bill Fishman of Bayside, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service: 2 p.m. Sunday in Shaara Tzedek cemetery on Stebner Road, Hermantown. For directions, please call Johnson Mortuary, 722-1777. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

Beatrice M. Radzak
Beatrice M. Radzak, 81, of Superior died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
She was born in Casselton, N.D., July 31, 1919, to Albert and Emily (Hendrick) Kasowski. She was a graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing-Breckenridge, Minn. In 1940, she married Chester Andrew Radzak in Casselton. Beatrice was employed as a registered nurse at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth from 1940-1970 working the last 17 years as a nursing supervisor. She was a member of the Retired Nurses Association of Minnesota and the St. Mary's Medical Center Retired Nurses. She was also active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Douglas County (Superior), a member of the Minong and Superior Senior Centers, Womens Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and A.A.R.P. Beatrice was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior, and an active member of the Altar Society. Beatrice gave loving gifts of her handiwork to family and friends which included knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed gardening and canning.

Survivors include her husband, Chester A. of Superior; a daughter, Barbara Holte of Duluth; sons Chester D. (Peggy) of Duluth, Thomas (Patricia) of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Raymond (Darlene) of Blairsville, Ga., Charles (Jennifer) of Bruce, Wis., Anthony (April) and Patrick (Terry), all of Saginaw, Mark (Sue) and Lawrence (Denise), all of Minong; a brother, Frank (Ruth) Kasowski of Castleton; sisters Mary Holzer of Perham, Minn., Irene (Dwayne) Rust of Fargo, N.D., Bernadette Radzak of Foxboro, Wis., Martha (Bruno) Seppi of Bowie, Md., and Rita (John) Anderson of Granite Falls, Minn.; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Thursday in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior. Burial in Polish Catholic cemetery, Duluth. Memorials preferred to St. Mary's Hospice of Duluth. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth.

Richard Walter Hagen
Richard Walter Hagen, 50, of Missouri Avenue died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his mother, Lydia Hagen; a sister, Bonnie (Robert) O'Brien; a niece, Tari (Chad) Prachar; and nephew, Thomas O'Brien.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today in Downs Funeral Home where service is 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment in St. Francis cemetery. Memorials preferred to Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mildred G. Pekkala
Mildred G. Pekkala, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior.
Mildred was born Sept. 6, 1910, in Preston, Minn., to Henry and Helga (Knutson) Prigge. She was a longtime resident of Superior, a member of Itasca Presbyterian Church, the Marguerite Cook Guild, was an organist and choir director for 40 years and wrote musical skits. She was a member of the Hi-Fi Club and a former member of the P.T.A.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, in November 1982; a sister, Hazel Radloff; a brother, Clarence Murphy; and her parents.

Survivors include sons Rick (Colette) Pekkala of South Range, Wis., and Ronald (Charlotte) Pekkala of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; daughters Kathryn (David) Lehman and Marcia Pekkala, both of Superior; a brother, James "Tim" Prigge of Sun City Center, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home. Service 11 a.m. Tuesday in Itasca Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Cheri Danielson officiating. Interment in Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements by Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home.

Gustave "Gus" E. Wangerin
Gustave "Gus" E. Wangerin, 90, a resident of Superior and summer resident of Lake Nebagamon died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in his Superior residence.
Gustave was born July 30, 1910, in Superior and was a lifelong resident except for four years in North Dakota. He married Mildred Lagro April 14, 1934. They were married for more than 66 years. He was a life member of the Elks and Shrine, Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge 236 F.&A.M.;, Scottish Rite, Valley of Eau Claire, Push-Em-Ups, UCT since 1937, and Superior Chamber of Commerce. He was on the dealer council for General Motors and owned Superior Motors (Buick, Oldsmobile dealer) from 1957 until he sold it in 1983 and retired. He previously managed Jensen Motors (Chrysler) and managed Kapus Garage during World War II and served in Coast Guard Reserve.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mildred in 1936; a brother, Leonard; sisters Clara and Eleanor Sherlock.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; children Dona (Norman) Camenker of Superior, David of Superior, Janet Schwieters of Crete, Ill., and Daniel of Pattison Park; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a niece, Beverly (Gene) Nelson of Superior and several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Pilgrim Lutheran Church, the Revs. Bill Wilson and David Eckman officiating. Interment in Riverside cemetery. Memorials to St. Mary's Hospice or charity of donor's choice. Arrangements by Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home.

Edith P. Hansen
Edith P. Hansen, 79, a lifelong South Range area resident, died Friday, June 15, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.
Edith is survived by sons Albin (Sharyn), Dave (Debbie) and Cliff Hansen; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister; two brothers; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: begins 5 p.m. Sunday and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday, all in Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. Interment in Parkview cemetery, Hawthorne.

LaVerne Irene Larson
LaVerne Irene Larson, 87, of Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior passed away Monday, June 11, 2001.
She was a longtime resident of Wentworth and Hayward.

Her love of people and fun-loving ways will be missed by all who knew her. She was born in Murdock, Minn., to Gustaf Edward and Ethel Elvera Carlson. She married Donald L. Larson Oct. 18, 1936, in Shell Lake, Wis. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church Women, Hayward.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Larson of Villa-Marina, Superior; a daughter, Donna (Clarence) Tollefson; sons Donald (Shirley) Larson, Richard (Cindy) Larson and Gary (Carol) Larson; grandchildren Kim, Darla, and Deanna, Joan, Rob (Lori) and Kari (Satbir), Michelle and Christopher, David (Dawn) and Kristi (Dat); great-grandchildren Brianna, Deandra, Wesley, and Ashley, Jennifer (Troy), Amanda, Benjamin, Wesley, and Whitney, Connor and Macy; and a great-great-grandchild, Alyssa.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in First Lutheran Church, Hayward. Arrangements by Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home, Hayward, (715) 634-2609.

Jean Ray Sample
Jean Ray Sample, 69, of Superior passed away and went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 12, 2001, in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center, Superior.
Jean was born April 30, 1932, in Altamont, S.D., to Wilber Jean and Lillian St. John (Amey) Sample. Jean graduated from McGregor High School in 1950. He was united in marriage with Evelyn (Kinney) Graff on Dec. 5, 1964, in Sioux Falls, S.D. They moved to Sandstone in 1973 and to Nashville, Tenn., in 1979, where they lived until moving to Superior in 1992 to be closer to their family. Jean did carpentry work and roofing the majority of his life until his health forced him to retire. He enjoyed working with his hands and inventing and was an avid reader, which he enjoyed to the end.

Jean is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Superior; sons Bill Graff of Hinckley and Ed Graff of Sioux Falls; daughters Vickie (Charles) Ritch of Duluth, Lettie (Clifford) Dickey of Sandstone and Nancy Heiderich of Superior; brothers George (Audrey) of Rogers, Ark., Sam (Joann) of St. Paul and Paul (Karen) of Mahtowa; sisters Ruth Lyman of Sandstone and Lillian Filius of Aurora-Hoyt Lakes; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday in Methven Funeral Home, Sandstone, and from noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Dell Grove Township, Minn. Interment in the church cemetery.

Joan (Rogers) Boeselager
Joan (Rogers) Boeselager, 58, of Superior died Monday, June 11, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
Joan was born to George and Joan (Thompson) Rogers on March 9, 1943, in Duluth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers Karl and John.

Joan is survived by her husband, Robert; sons Joseph, Paul, Richard, James and Kelly; a daughter, Wendy; grandchildren Nicole, Michelle, Sara, Tabatha, Samantha, Jessann, Kaila and Zachary; great-grandchildren Bryan and Austin; brothers George, Paul, Dan, Bill and Gary; sisters, Peggy, Sheila and Myrtle; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Bell Brothers Chapel. Burial in Sunrise Memorial Park, Hermantown. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors, Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.
