Virginia A. Seikkula
Virginia A. Seikkula, 77, of South Range, formerly of Superior, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001.
Surviving are sons John (Linda), Samuel and Richard (Carol); daughters Debbie (Dennis) Stidham and Mary Ann (Steve) Katzmark; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service Saturday in Bethel Lutheran Church. Inurnment in Sunrise Memorial Park in Duluth at a later date. Arrangements by Downs Funeral Home.

Christopher C. Kennedy
Christopher C. Kennedy, 24, lifelong Superior and Duluth resident died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident.
Survivors include his parents, Gene and Amey Kennedy; girl friend, Rita Hansen; sons Jacob and Branden Kennedy; brothers John and Richard; grandmother, Edith Stenson; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation: begins 5 p.m. Monday in Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, where it continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday.

Charles "Charlie" Slind
Charles "Charlie" Slind, 43, of Superior died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, in Grand Rapids.
Born July 4, 1958, in New Richmond, Wis., to Douglas and Joann (Prim) Slind, he was a Superior resident for most of his life. He graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1976. He married Laurie Howard Feb. 13, 1998, in Duluth. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and was very devoted to his family, friends and Upper Lakes Foods. Charlie was employed as a sales supervisor for Upper Lakes Foods for over 26 years.

He was preceded in death by a son, Will; and mother, Joann Slind.

In addition to his wife, Laurie Howard Slind, he is survived by daughters Stefanie and Dana Slind, both of Solon Springs, Wis.; a son, Alex Slind of Solon Springs and Superior; his father, Douglas Slind of Superior; sisters Patricia "Trish" Slind of Superior, Amy Latvala of Superior; brothers Steve (Linda) Slind of Boyceville, Wis., Jay (Sheila) Slind of La Crosse, Wis.; maternal grandmother, Norma Verlinden of Starbuck, Minn.; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5 p.m. today in Faith United Methodist Church, where it will continue from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Sunday. The Rev. Joel Certa-Werner, pastor, will officiate. Pallbearers are Steve and Jay Slind, Mark Howard, Rick O'Connell, Scott Anderson and Steve Sorenson.

Arrangements by Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home.

Vernon J. Couture Sr.
Vernon J. Couture Sr., 82, of Banks Avenue died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital, Duluth.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn (Paul Probst) Weir; a son, Peter; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Couture; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1:30 p.m. service Tuesday in Downs Funeral Home. Interment in Greenwood cemetery.

LOUIS LAURIE
Louis Laurie, 85, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, in his home in Minneapolis.
He was a lifelong Superior resident before moving to Minneapolis in 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other awards while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. His parents were Chucker and Israel B. Laurie.

Survivors include sisters Rose Abramson of Duluth, and Sadi and Edythe Laurie, both of Minneapolis; a niece, Marla; and a nephew, Wesley.
GRAVESIDE SERVICESwere held Tuesday in Minneapolis, Rabbi Aaron Brusso officiating.

IRENE M. ANDERSON
Irene M. Anderson, 83, of Superior died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in Beverly Health and Rehab.
Irene is survived by daughters Marilee (Jerome) Parenteau and Sharon Scanlon; grandchildren Arnie Parenteau, James Jardine, and Jason and Jennifer Scanlon; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m. today in Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home. Funeral at 11 a.m. Friday in Concordia Lutheran Church. Interment in Greenwood cemetery.

HELEN M. GRIFFIN
Helen M. Griffin, 86, of John Avenue, formerly of Clough Avenue, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, in her residence.
She was born Sept. 26, 1915, in Spooner and attended Bayside Baptist Church in Superior.

Mrs. Griffin was an avid flower gardener, especially African violets. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family, enjoyed music and dancing, was a great storyteller and remembered history in detail. Her family brought her joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, in 1996; brothers Theodore Scanlon and John Scanlon; a sister, Verna Scanlon; and a son-in-law, Bonar Carlson.

Surviving are daughters Patricia Carlson of Superior, Carol (Keith) Nyberg of South Range, Betty LaValley of Rice Lake, Wis., Bonnie Bruce of Golden Valley, Minn., Carol (Ray) Peters of Duluth and Kathy (Bill) Kaldlecik of Superior; sons Ted (Patty) Platz of Chisago City, Minn., Marvin (Yvonne) Griffin Jr. of Bloomington, Minn., and David (Donna) Griffin of Duluth; 27 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Patricia) Scanlon of South Range; a sister, Lorraine (Ray) Sundet of Superior; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday in Downs Funeral Home, where service is 1 p.m. Saturday, the Rev. Phil Terrill of Bayside Baptist Church officiating. Interment in Greenwood cemetery.

VIVIAN E. BURGSON
Vivian E. Burgson, 84, a resident of East Seventh Street, Superior, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in Villa Marina Health Care Facility.
Vivian was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and a former member of the Eastern Star.

Vivian is survived by several cousins.
SERVICE: 1 p.m. Tuesday in Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home, the Rev. Maggie Speich officiating. Interment in the family lot in Riverside cemetery.

DONNA F. (KIRKWOOD) OJALA
Donna F. (Kirkwood) Ojala, 50, of Superior died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001.
Survivors include daughters Jodi Ojala (Mike Johnson), Terilyn Ojala (Lamond Williams) and Shanda (Chou) Yang; a son, Chase Kirkwood; three grandchildren; two brothers; four sisters; numerous relatives; and close friends.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Downs Funeral Home where service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial in Greenwood cemetery.

RONALD A. KARLON
Ronald A. Karlon, 34, of Chetek, Wis., died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Chippewa Falls, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa; a stepson, Chad Mihalik; his father, Ronald J. Karlon; brothers Peter and Andrew Karlon; and a sister, Ann Gordon.
Visitation: Noon until the 2 p.m. service Tuesday in Our Redeemer's Free Lutheran Church, 2125 Missouri Ave. Interment in Riverside cemetery. Arrangements by Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home.

VIOLET E. ERICKSON
Violet E. Erickson, 90, of Hill Avenue died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 26, 1911, in Superior and had been a lifelong resident. Violet was a 1931 graduate of Superior Central High School and was a volunteer at Superior Memorial Hospital for 18 years. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Gunnard, in 1980; a granddaughter, Susan Gann, in 2001; five brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Jack) Mizinski of Sherwood, Ark.; a sister, Hazel Howard of Eufala, Ala.; grandchildren Lori (Bruce) Crowley of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Jeffrey (Lisa) Mizinski of North Hudson, Wis.; great-grandchildren Deborah and John Crowley, Trenton and Cassandra Mizinski, and Kali and Grace Gann; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. funeral Saturday in Downs Funeral Home, the Rev. Henry Hanna of United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment in Greenwood cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospital of Superior Auxiliary.

MARY JANE L. RIVORD-DODGE
Mary Jane L. Rivord-Dodge, 77, of Belknap Street died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, in her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Dodge; a daughter, Linda L. Rivord; sons Steven, Douglas (Adona), Gerald and James (Debi) Rivord; seven grandchildren; six-great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two stepdaughters.
Visitation: 5 p.m. today in Downs Funeral Home. Funeral at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Alban the Martyr Episcopal Church, 1510 New York Ave.

LILLIAN E. LADICH
Lillian E. Ladich, 89, of Hughitt Avenue died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in St. Francis in the Park Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include her husband, Michael; granddaughters Karen (Raymond) Carlsen and Kristy Armes; and great-grandchildren Kayla, Cassie, Jordan, Tyler and Joshua.
Visitation: Noon until the 1:30 p.m. funeral today in Concordia Lutheran Church. Interment in Greenwood cemetery. Arrangements by Downs Funeral Home.
