Sharon Lynn Lyes
Sharon Lynn Lyes, 51, of Cloquet died Friday, March 16, 2001, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, after a short battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 29, 1949, the daughter of John and Emily (Ojala) Hallback. Sharon was a 1967 graduate of Cloquet High School. She married Michael Lyes May 23, 1970, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cloquet.

Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed shopping for antiques, looking for treasures at rummage sales and gardening, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 30 years, Michael of Cloquet; daughters Tammi Forconi and Stacy Lyes, both of Cloquet; grandchildren Taylor and Kelsey Forconi; sisters Kathleen (Dennis) Johnson, Roberta (William) Johnson and Susan (Clifford) Jackson, all of Cloquet; brothers Donald (Shirley) Hallback, Charles Hallback and Terrance (Donna) Hallback, all of Cloquet; mother-in-law, Bernice Persons of Cloquet; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet, where visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday. Spring interment in Atkinson cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. (To sign the guest book online, see www.legacy.com).

Katherine Corradi
Katherine Corradi, 85, of Chisholm died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in Hibbing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ermie; a daughter, Sharon Corradi; a son, Jon R.; and a brother.

Survivors include a son, Roger (Diane) of Chisholm; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Private family memorial service Tuesday in Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm. Inurnment in Chisholm cemetery.

Avry Olin Erickson
Avry Olin Erickson, infant son of Bonnie Jo Barker and Olin Erickson of Eveleth died Monday, March 12, 2001.
Born Aug. 15, 2000, he is survived by his parents; grandparents Elizabeth (Donald) Johnson, Mark Erickson, Wiebke Erickson, Joe Bills; great-grandparents Howard Barker, Ellen Mickelson, Harriet Erickson, Bert (Gesine Goettsche, Ernie (Maryln) Vanek and Dwyer (Mary) Bills; aunts and uncles.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Tuesday in Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home Chapel, Eveleth.

Elsie Y. Kirsch
Elsie Y. Kirsch, 73, of Grand Rapids died Friday, March 16, 2001, in her home.
She was born Sept. 25, 1927, to Rade and Millie (Kanovich) Bobich in Crosby where she grew up and attended schools. She was united in marriage with Warren C. Kirsch in McGregor July 23, 1955, in the Little Log Church. The couple made their lifelong home in Grand Rapids. Elsie worked as a bookkeeper at the Midway National Bank in St. Paul for two years and after moving to Grand Rapids worked at the First Nationa1 Bank for a year. She then went to the Grand Rapids State Bank where she worked for 14 years, later becoming head bookkeeper. She was a member and counter at the Community Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids, belonged to the Birthday Club and the Bridge Club and was a volunteer at the Itasca Medical Center, wheeling patients and working at the snack bar.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers George "Judo" Bobich and Pete "Petar" Bobich.

Survivors include her husband, Warren; a son, Ron (Sharon Sugden) Kirsch of New Richmond, Wis.; a grandson, Matt Sugden-Kirsch of New Richmond; sisters Mary (Joe) Grubich of New Richmond and Zorka (Ben) Martin of Emily, Minn.; a brother, Don (Shirley) Bobich of Hobe Sound, Fla.; many nieces, nephews and many who lovingly claim to be.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Libbey Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Memorial service 11 a.m. Tuesday in Community Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids. Burial in Itasca Calvary cemetery. Memorials preferred to Itasca Hospice, 126 S.E. First Ave., Grand Rapids, MN 55744.

Josephine E. Lafferty
Josephine E. Lafferty, 85, of Aitkin died Friday, March 16, 2001, in the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. led by Deacon Vern Anderson. Service 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. James Catholic Church, Fathers Patrick Coyle and Francis Paquette officiating. Burial in St. Thomas cemetery, Aitkin. Arrangements by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.

Norma A. Phillips
Norma A. Phillips, 83, of the Splithand Community died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
She was born Feb. 18, 1918, to August and Agnes (Serk) Behm in the Splithand area of Grand Rapids where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Grand Rapids High School and then lived in the Minneapolis area for a brief time prior to returning to Splithand. In November 1943 she married Clair C. Phillips in Grand Rapids and they made their home in Splithand. Her husband died in 1980. Norma was a co-founder and for more than 40 years owner of "Orchid Gardens" wildflower nursery in Splithand, a leading mail order nursery that sold native plants throughout the United States and the world. Norma was also an author, having published three books and several articles in wildflower magazines and the Minnesota Volunteer. An accomplished photographer and naturalist, she was also a poetess and an educator, presenting numerous programs to community groups. Norma also was the founder and owner of the Little Bridge Publishing Co.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and two brothers.

She is survived by a daughter, Leona Fitzmaurice of Pullman, Wash.; sons Carl (Janet) Phillips of Andover, Minn., James Phillips of Saginaw, Dean Phillips of Minneapolis; two granddaughters; and three great- grandchildren.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, the Rev. George B. Gilbertson officiating. Burial in Harris cemetery in Harris Township, Minn. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Itasca Hospice or American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Robert J. Nelson
Robert J. Nelson, 68, of Britt died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in the Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in Seventh Day Adventist Church, Hibbing, Pastor Homer Trecartin officiating. Arrangements by Range Funeral Home, Virginia.

Leonard E. Stone
Leonard E. Stone, 85, of Virginia died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in the Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm.

Virginia B. Holbeck
Virginia B. Holbeck, 91, of Two Harbors died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Lakeshore Lutheran Home, Duluth.
She was born March 27, 1909, to Axel and Louise (Beck) Jacobson in Lulea, Sweden. She emigrated to the United States in 1910 to Duluth and moved to Two Harbors in 1913, where she grew up and attended schools. She married Edwin Holbeck in 1936, and was a homemaker through the years. She recently lived in St. Anne's Residence in Duluth for two and a half years. She attended First Baptist Church in Two Harbors.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin in 1975; sisters Esther Engstrom, Florence Sjoquist and Mildred Hagberg; and a brother, Sigried Jacobson.

She is survived by a son, Roger (Kathleen) of Duluth; grandsons James of Brimson, Wayne (Vickie) of Corcoran, Minn., Daniel (Jean) of Elk River, Minn., and Mark of Saginaw; great-granddaughters Brianna, Madalyn and Shelby; and nieces and nephews.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday in Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors.

Wayne Alan Swanson
Wayne A. Swanson, 46, of Carlton died Thursday, March 22, 2001.
He was born July 21, 1954, in Duluth to Leslie and Helen (Hammerbeck) Swanson. He graduated from Carlton High School in 1972, attended University of Minnesota Duluth, Lee Strasberg's Institute of the Theatrical Arts in New York City and the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.

Wayne was past master of Trinity Masonic Lodge 282 AF&AM; in Duluth, a beloved son, brother and friend. Wayne's willingness to give of his time, energy and knowledge along win his passion for the arts and gardening will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

Wayne was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carl and Amy Swanson; and his maternal grandparents, Walter and Mabel Hammerbeck.

He is survived by his parents, Les and Helen Swanson of Carlton; brothers Keith (Mary Gustafson) Swanson of Hermantown, Glenn (Carmilla) Swanson of Minneapolis and Joel (Tricia) Swanson of Cloquet; a sister, Janet (Michael Garro) Swanson of Bemidji; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Buddy.
Memorial service: 3 p.m. Sunday in Cloquet Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Robert O. Hickman officiating. Honorary pallbearers: Keith Swanson, Glenn Swanson, Joel Swanson, Janet Swanson and Jim Sheetz. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

Karen L. Tetrault
Karen L. Tetrault, 58, longtime resident of Virginia died Friday, March 23, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 25, 1942, in Hibbing, the daughter of Lloyd and Elsie (Soderstrom) Moe. She was a graduate of Mountain Iron high school. She married Wally Tetrault Nov. 5, 1966, and was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Karen was employed by Target as a cashier and was a homemaker. She cherished time spent with family, especially with her grandson, Brody; loved fishing with her husband, Wally, and enjoyed the times spent with her girlfriends at the cabin on Lake Vermilion.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Karen is survived by her husband, Wally; daughters Renee (Karl) Schmidt of Gilbert and Janelle Tetrault of Virginia; brothers Jerry Moe of West Eveleth, Dennis (Donna) Moe of Virginia, Tom (Sandy) Moe of Eveleth and Curt Moe of Virginia; grandson Brody; stepmother Margaret Moe of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Bauman-Cron Funeral Home, Virginia. Visitation continues Monday 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Virginia, the Rev. Father John O'Donnell as celebrant. Interment in Calvary cemetery, Virginia.
