Fern E. Stevens, 80, of Grand Rapids died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in her home.
She is survived by her children, Howard, Jim, Karen, Kermit; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Monday in Libbey Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Libbey Funeral Home, (218) 326-4000.

Lorraine G. Moe
Lorraine G. Moe, 73, Lawrence Township, rural Bovey, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
Born March 5, 1928, in Bovey, she was the daughter of Claude and Vienna (Koski) Ward. She attended Bovey schools and had been a lifelong resident of the Bovey area.

Lorraine and Loren Moe were married in August 1972 in Grand Rapids. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Balsam Bible Chapel, the Bovey Women of the Moose, and the Auxiliary to the Hurlbut-Ziemer American Legion Post 476.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Vienna Ward; her first husband, Donald Hurlbut in 1965; a son, Marvin Hurlbut; a brother, Lester Ward; and a half brother, Claude Ward, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Loren; children Doug Hurlbut of Cohasset, Michael Hurlbut of Grand Rapids, Kenneth (Lisa) Hurlbut and Bonnie (Richard) Bilyeu both of Bovey; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; half sisters Claudia (Carl) Wohlsdorf of Grand Rapids and Judy Rude of Belgrade, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Virginia Ward of Brainerd; and a special friend, Shirley (Bud) Greer of Bovey.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine, the Rev. Frank Knoop officiating. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine.

Alvin Gruenwaldt
Alvin Gruenwaldt, 80, of Sturgeon Lake died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake.
Private burial in Fort Snelling National cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

Frank Ahlgren
Frank Ahlgren, 85, of Marble died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids.
He is survived by a daughter, Juleene Gustafson; a son, L. Gary Ahlgren; a brother, John Ahlgren; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in United Methodist Church, Pengilly, where services are at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial with full military honors in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Mary K. DeLeo
Mary K. DeLeo, 88, of Hibbing died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in her home.
She was born Aug. 16, 1912, in Eveleth to John and Katherine Machek. She moved to Hibbing in 1940, where she worked as an insurance administrator for the Mesaba Clinic. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament church and loved gardening and yardwork especially at her cabin on Ely Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1978; a sister, Katherine Machek; and brothers Rudy and Victor Machek.

She is survived by a son, Dave (Sharon) of Port St. Joe, Fla., formerly of Hibbing; a sister, Helen Machek; of Virginia, Minn.; a brother, David (Katherine) Machek of Rockford, Ill., grandchildren James (Melissa) DeLeo of Falcon Heights, Minn., and Gina DeLeo of Rochford, S.D., and a granddaughter, Kristiana DeLeo.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Monday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Rev. Clem Gustin, OSC, as celebrant. Burial in Eveleth cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.

Ann Elizabeth Pantsar
Ann Elizabeth Pantsar, 91, of Cloquet died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in the Carlton Nursing Home.
She was born March 14, 1910, in Thomson Township to John and Hilma (Alfton) Fredrickson. She graduated from Esko High School. Ann married Otto Pantsar in 1931. She worked at Diamond Match from 1936 until retiring in 1975. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Diamond Jewels, Finlandia Beach Club and Esko Senior Citizens. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening and just being outdoors.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; sisters Hilda Abrahamson, Hannah Johnson and Violet Schomber; and brothers Ernest, Bill and Robert Fredrickson.

She is survived by her daughter, Pat (Jim) Nelson of Cloquet; a sister, Lillian Rosenthal of Brainerd; grandchildren Kristine (Keith Norton) Loubert of Edina, Ross (Janis) Nelson of Esko, Susan (Stephen) Knoll of Parker, Colo., and Laura (Walter) Collman of Cromwell; great-grandchildren Andrea Loubert, Lindsey and Luke Knoll and Lenore Collman.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Cloquet, Pastor Dennis Morreim officiating. Inurnment in Apostolic Lutheran cemetery, Esko, in the spring. Arrangements by Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. (To sign the guest book online, see www.legacy.com) .

Helen J. Levchak
Helen J. Levchak, 78, of Chisholm died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, in her residence.
Survivors include a son, Michael (Evelyn); a daughter, Barbara (Larry) Claude; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Hydukovich.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Monday in Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm. Interment in Chisholm cemetery.

Roy E. Kuitunen
Roy E. Kuitunen, 74, of Biwabik died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in Eveleth Arrowhead Health Care Center.
He is survived by his wife, Jean "Virginia"; a daughter, Ann Kuitunen; sons Kenneth and John; brothers Lester (Gladys) and Robert (Betty); a sister, Edna Parvey; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Memorial lunch: 1-4 p.m. Monday in Biwabik Township Hall. Private family inurnment at a later date. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Gilbert. Memorials preferred to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease.

Todd Aaron Hjelsand
Todd Aaron Hjelsand went home to his Lord Thursday, March 22, 2001.
Todd was born Feb. 11, 1958, to Robert and Salome Hjelsand in Chippewa Falls, Wis. He attended grade schools in Grand Rapids where he became an avid hockey player and fan. Todd was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, Wis., and graduated from Altoona High School.

Todd was hard-working and worked in the heating and air-conditioning field in Green Bay and Bloomer, Wis., until he decided to strike out with his own skills in carpentry and woodworking. Todd taught himself woodcarving, a hobby in which he was especially talented. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and camp.

Todd's affliction with cancer hindered his efforts to finish many of his new methods of carvings, as the Lord took him home. He is now in peace and free from pain.

Todd was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Andrew and Mary Hjelsand and Omar and Alice Austad.

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Salome Hjelsand of Altoona, Wis.; brothers Randy (Mary) Hjelsand of Mountain Iron and Barry (Linda) Hjelsand of Moorhead, Minn.; his devoted ex-wife and soulmate, Ann Poppe; a stepson, Timothy Poppe; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins who loved him dearly.

"God put a new star in the Heavens last night. It twinkles and sparkles and lights up the night. That twinkle and sparkle God took from Todd's eyes, and put in that star to light up the skies. It is not known how God's will is done, but I know that star is Todd Hjelsand, our brother and son."
Memorial services: 7 p.m. today in Sacred Heart Hospital Chapel, Eau Claire, and 1 p.m. Sunday in Jack Funeral Chapel, Blair, Wis. Interment Sunday in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Blair. Arrangements by Jack Funeral Home.

Kathryn L. Klarich
Kathryn L. Klarich, 79, of Buhl died Sunday, March 25, 2001, in Virginia Convalescent Center.
She was born April 4, 1921, in Mountain Iron to Joseph and Helen (Majetich) Marincel. She was a 1939 graduate of Mountain Iron High School. She married Matt J. Klarich Feb. 25, 1946, in Mountain Iron and was a longtime resident of Mountain Iron and Buhl.

Kathryn was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Buhl, a past member of its choir, a member of St. Bernadette Church Circle and Buhl-Kinney Area Senior Citizens. She was known for baking and potica making.

She was employed in Gately's Department Store in Virginia, was a homemaker and worked with Jim and Maxine while they owned Pep's bakery in Virginia.

Kathryn is survived by her children Mary Kay Klarich of St. Paul, Paul Klarich of Plymouth, Minn., Maggie (Ed) Bakke of Mountain Iron and Maxine (Jim) Hecimovich of Britt; a brother, Mike "Mish" (Ione) Marincel of Mountain Iron; sisters Anne (Carl) Fayon of Virginia and Madeline "Munge" Rahne of Grand Rapids; grandchildren Dana and Bruce Bakke, Dr. Nicki and Colleen and Mark Hecimovich; cousins, the Rev. Frank Marincel, Sister Margaret Marincel and Joe (Marlys) Marincel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Matt in 1989; a brother, John Marincel; and a sister, Mary Adamich.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday with 7:30 p.m. rosary service in Bauman-Cron Funeral Home, Virginia. Visitation continues 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Wednesday in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Buhl. The Rev. Steven Daigle will celebrate the mass. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Buhl.
