Richard Hosey Worthington
Richard Hosey Worthington, 60, of Helena, Mont., died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He died of a rare small intestinal cancer.
He was born Feb. 14, 1941, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Dr. Victor Worthington and Dr. Ora Worthington.

A devoted husband, loving father, incredible grandfather, and wonderful friend, is how Richard "Dick" Worthington will be remembered. All that had the pleasure of coming in contact with Dick will miss him very much. Richard H. Worthington was truly a genuine human being.

Richard grew up in Piggott, Ark., attended military school at Junior Military Academy in Knoxville, Tenn., at the age of five. He graduated from Piggott High School in 1959. He was in the Air Force for two years and received an honorable discharge. He then went on to college at the University of Arkansas in Jonesboro, Ark. He graduated in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in business. He was voted most popular his senior year of college.

Dick worked for Ash Grove Cement Co. as a regional sales manager, and lived in Helena for the past 16 years. Dick was an active member of the Montana Contractors' Association, and served on the MCA's Associates Board of Directors. Dick was the board's president twice during his 10 years of service. He also received the MCA's "The Associate" award in 1998.

Dick was instrumental in causes for the Camp Make-A-Dream site near Gold Creek in 1996 and 1997. Among his many passions and accomplishments, Richard was president of the Associates Board of Directors for the MCA and active in Ducks Unlimited for many years. He was also a Bronze Member of Ducks Unlimited. Dick also achieved some of the most impressive elk trophies to be taken out of the Gates of the Mountains. He was an avid trap shooter.

Dick's favorite hobby was golfing. He scored a hole-in-one three times during his golfing career. Having fun was when Dick was at his best, and as those that knew him can attest he was at his best the majority of the time. It was, however, his love of duck hunting that brought him to Arkansas many times, where he enjoyed many duck hunting excursions with close friends who referred to him as "Tut." Dick also loved golfing while visiting Hot Springs, Ark.

Richard will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Jacalyn; in addition to his children, Todd (Lori) Worthington of Minneapolis, Sean Worthington of Duluth, Joy (Del) Berger of Mandan, N.D., and Julie (Michael) Noone of Enderlin, N.D.; stepchildren Jason Grenfell-Gardner of Tallion, Estonia (Russia), Ron Hanni of Butte, Mont., and Rebecca Mills of Colville, Wash.; grandchildren Sam and Joe Worthington of Minneapolis and Katlyn Worthington of Mandan, N.D., who will miss their grandfather very much; his mother and stepfather, Ora and Huston Blair of Joiner, Ark.; brothers Victor (Reba) Worthington Jr. of West Memphis, Ark., and Drs. Madison (Debra) Sowell of Milan, Italy; his father-in-law, Allen Grenfell of Butte; his mother-in-law, June (Albert) Blutcher of Colville, Wash.; a brother-in-law, Darrell (Judy) Grenfell of Missoula, Mont; a sister-in-law, Mia (Charles) Lloyd of Spokane, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews, along with all his many friends.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Weiner and his staff for their compassion.
