Victoria C. Karulak
Victoria C. Karulak, 84, of Moose Lake died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, in Mercy Hospital & Health Care Center, Moose Lake.
She was born in Split Rock Township on June 22, 1916, to Steve and Anna (Tommicski) Jurek. On June 20, 1936, she married Valentine (William) Karulak. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in Split Rock Township. She also worked at the Carrol Inn in Moose Lake.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for many years until she moved to Moose Lake in 1984, where she then was a member of Holy Angels Church, until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Stanley, Joseph and John; a sister, Mary; her husband in 1980; a son, Anthony in 1952 who was 15 years old; two infant sons; and a grandson, Bradley Hatch in 1996.

She is survived by sons Bernard (Delores) Karulak of Cloquet and John (Sherry) Karulak of Kettle River; daughters Josephine (William) Black of Ham Lake, Minn., Rose (John) Gronski of Superior, Theresa (Tom) Hatch of Ham Lake, Catherine (Bruce) McBride of Carlton and Ann (Michael) Juhl of Sturgeon Lake; a brother, Anthony Jurek of Cloquet; sisters Sophie Kaspszak of Kettle River, Margaret Jurek of Cloquet and Theresa (Leroy) Starkey of Cloquet; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday with 7 p.m. rosary and 7:30 p.m. prayer service in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake. Mass of Christian burial 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Father Hayes as celebrant. Burial in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Split Rock Township. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

Donald R. Gawtry
Donald R. Gawtry, 86, of International Falls died Monday, April 23, 2001, in St Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
He is survived by his wife, Marilee; sons Bruce, Randall and David; and a daughter, Martha Gawtry Landmark.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. today in Green-Larsen Memorial Chapel, International Falls. Service 2 p.m. Friday in Zion Lutheran Church, International Falls. Burial in Fort Snelling National cemetery.

Donna H. Rice
Donna H. Rice, 68, of Cohasset died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Norman; a daughter, Bonnie Muotka; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cohasset. Burial in Wildwood cemetery, Cohasset. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Gilbert Eigsberg
Gilbert Eigsberg, 97, of Aitkin, formerly of East Lake area, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, in Aicota Nursing Home in Aitkin.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. memorial service Sunday in Tamarack Presbyterian Church. The Rev. John Yingling officiating. Burial in Baxter cemetery, Dawson, Minn. Arrangements are with the McGregor Funeral Home in McGregor.

George Leon Post Sr.
George Leon Post Sr., 67, of Borden Lake in Garrison, Minn., died Monday, April 23, 2001, in Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin. Visitation continues 10:30 until the 11:30 a.m. service Saturday in Community Alliance Church, Garrison. The Rev. Peter Dorn officiating. Burial in Garrison cemetery.

Richard G. Oman
Richard G. Oman, 59, of Hanna, Ind., passed away Monday, April 16, 2001.
He was born March 7, 1942, in Carlton to George R. and Beatrice Jean (Pringle) Oman. He was an iron worker with Local 395 of Hammond for 36 years, having worked the past 25 years with Tonn and Blank Construction.

He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed fishing, hunting and RVing.

He was preceded in death by his father, George.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, whom he married Sept. 7, 1971; his mother, Beatrice; children Lisa Kay (Ernie) Sparks, Debbie (Kevin) Ebnet and Richard Patrick Oman; a stepson, Mike (Karolyn) Dacey; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Darrell Oman; and sisters Carol Westendorf and Darlene Okerlund.
Services were in Valparaiso, Ind. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society, 2000 N. Wells St., Building 5, Fort Wayne, IN 46808.

Dolores M. Hultgren
Dolores M. Hultgren, 78, of Moose Lake died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake.
She was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Duluth to John and Gertrude (Gilbert) Nyberg. Dolores grew up on the Iron Range and later moved to Duluth, where she graduated from Denfeld High School in 1940. She attended business school and spent a number of years living in Portland Ore., before moving back to Duluth in 1952. She worked at Standard Oil in Duluth.

In 1954, Dolores moved to Kerrick. She married Elmer F. Hultgren on Sept. 7, 1957, in Clearwater, Fla. She worked as an LPN and psychiatric technician in Moose Lake State Hospital. In 1998 she moved to Moose Lake.

Dolores loved traveling and camping. She was a member of the Kerrick Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; and her brothers, Gilbert and John "Stanley" Nyberg.

Dolores is survived by her son, Fred Flodin of Minneapolis; a sister-in-law, Signe Hultgren of Kerrick; nieces; nephews; and many special friends.
Visitation: 2 until the 3 p.m. service Saturday in Kerrick Community Church. The Rev. James Eagle officiating. Burial in Riverside cemetery, Kerrick. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

Mary J. Welk
Mary J. Welk, 49, of Remer died Monday, April 23, 2001, in Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; a daughter, Sarah Welk; sons Brent and Bryan; sisters Diane Hienlen, Kathy Baur and Michelle Flood; brothers John and Mike Swankier; her parents, Betty and Glenn Swankier; her grandmother, Esther Swankier; and three grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. service Saturday in Bethany Lutheran Church, Remer. Burial in Fairview cemetery. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home.

Robert "Bob" Johnson
Robert "Bob" Johnson, 62, of Minong died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospice in Duluth.
He was born March 18, 1939, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Kermit and Mary Jane Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Danny.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; daughters Deborah (Dave) Olson of Iron River, Loann Albertus of Washburn, Cindy (Rusty) Ratliff of Fritch, Texas, Trina Johnson of Superior and Tracie (Tim) VanPuymbrouck of Superior; brothers Ron of Rochester, Minn., Dave of New Jersey, and John, Steve, Floyd, Dale and Jim, all of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sisters Mary Ann Harris of Minong and JoAnn Kremm of Grand Rapids; 18 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Private family services will be at a later date. Arrangements by Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home.

William T. "Bill" Franklin
William T. "Bill" Franklin, 57, of Nashwauk died Monday, April 23, 2001, in the University Medical Center Mesabi in Hibbing.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; a daughter, Alisa Franklin; a son, William D. Franklin; sisters Judith Roy and Barbara Cummings; brothers James Franklin and Michael Franklin; his mother, Clara Franklin; and eighteen grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. service Friday in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Burial in Nashwauk cemetery.

Frank Prebeck Sr.
Frank Prebeck Sr., 86, of Goodland died Tuesday, April 24, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Milica; daughters Joy (Robert Stark) Whipps and Milica (Chuck) Kingsbury; sons David (Debbie) Prebeck and Frank (Karrie) Prebeck; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Friday in Goodland Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Joe Smith officiating. Burial in Maple Grove cemetery, Goodland. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.

John D. Preble
John D. Preble, 54, of Grand Rapids died Tuesday, April 24, 2001.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River. Service 2 p.m. Friday in Bethany Lutheran Church, Deer River. Burial in Arlington cemetery, Boy River, Minn.

Elizabeth "Betty" Kliewer
Elizabeth "Betty" Kliewer, 66, of Jacobson died Monday, April 23, 2001, in her home.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Carmel Lutheran Church near Jacobson. Arrangements by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.
