Velma E. Boedigheimer
Velma E. Boedigheimer, 79, of Cloquet died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake.
She was born in South St. Louis County Jan. 16, 1922, to Frank and Hilma Hill. Velma was united in marriage to Vernon Boedigheimer Sept. 12, 1942, in Cloquet. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Velma also loved flowers, gardening, spending time in the cabin at Tamarack Lake and playing the harmonica. Velma has gone to be with her first-born daughter, Laverne, whom she has dearly missed for 55 years.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Laverne; a brother, Willard; and sisters Lillian and Elsie.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon; sons Vernon "Pete" Jr. (Jennie) of Cloquet, Craig (Jeanette) of Carlton and Kevin (Ruth) of Cloquet; a brother, Frank (Eleanor) Barrett of Bellevue, Neb.; a sister, Helen Johnson of Cloquet; grandchildren Lisa (Jamie) Bushey, Sarah, Jeff, Jaime, Leah and Isaac Boedigheimer; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Jeremy and Joshua Bushey.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with 7 p.m. rosary recitation in Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet. Private family service will be held Thursday. Interment in Old Calvary cemetery, Cloquet.

Alma C. Brekke
Alma C. Brekke, 89, of Hibbing died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in Golden Crest Nursing Home, Hibbing.
She was born Oct. 7, 1911, to Adelard and Bertha (Marcelyn) Beauchamp in Olga, N.D. She was married to Julius Brekke May 20, 1939, in Crookston, Minn. She was a longtime resident of Hibbing. She worked as a nurse's aide in Walt's Resthome, Hibbing and Golden Crest Nursing Home of Hibbing. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was an officer in the Degree of Pocahontas and was a RSVP volunteer in the Lee Center. She enjoyed traveling as a hobby.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Adelard and Bertha Beauchamp; her husband, Julius in 1976; brothers Gaston, Eli, Eugene and Armond (Mike) Beauchamp; a sister, Lucille Machart; and three infants.

She is survived by sons Darryl Joe of Warsaw, Poland, James (Gail) of Moorhead, Minn., and Michael (Carolyn) of Champlin, Minn.; a daughter, Sharon (Darryl) Fiorini, Chisholm; sisters Edna (Ed) Schefter of Langdon, N.D., and Lorraine (Bill) Martin of Williamston, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Wednesday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. The Rev. Father James Hauver celebrant. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.

Artin Kussian
Artin Kussian, 82, longtime Coleraine resident died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Artin is survived by his wife, Yvonne; daughters Veronica (Ken) Holmbeck of St. Cloud, Minn., Suzanne (Jim) McDonald of Coleraine and Denise (Bob) Oakley of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Thursday in Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Coleraine. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.

Gordon L. Bunes
Gordon L. Bunes, 79, of Chisholm died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in University Medical Center-Mesabi, Hibbing.
He is survived by his children, Diane (Denny) Jones, Gary (Gail) Bunes and Mona (Pat) Munger; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his mother, Alma Buness of Fargo, N.D.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Wednesday in Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm. Inurnment at a later date in Balsam cemetery, Balsam Township, Itasca County.

Leslie Frank Bertram
Leslie Frank Bertram, 76, of Grand Rapids died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
He was born Feb. 22, 1925, to Peter and Edna Bertram in Bemidji, where he grew up and attended schools.

Leslie served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946 on the USS Eisner, DE 192, sailing from the North Atlantic to the South Pacific. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a telegrapher and then later for the Blandin Paper Co., in Grand Rapids from 1963 until his retirement in 1989.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mabel Lounsberry, Hazel Cucuzza and Ruby Alm.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; a daughter, Renee Andure of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; sons Michael and Ronald, both of Grand Rapids; stepdaughters Nineta Wright of Lynden, Wash., Anita Drew of Mandeville, La., Kay Watson of Chanhassen, Minn., and Susan Kirchner and Bonnie Hilts, both of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with a 6 p.m. wake prayer service in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian burial 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grand Rapids. The Rev. Father Thomas Radaich officiating. Burial in Wildwood cemetery, Cohasset.

Dale Robert Isaacson
Dale Robert Isaacson, 29, of Cloquet, formerly of Carlton, passed on Monday, March 12, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
Dale was born Sept. 11, 1971, in Cloquet. He graduated from Cloquet High School in 1991.

He is survived by his parents, Joann (Mick) Johnson and Douglas Isaacson, both of Cloquet; a sister, Teresa (Perry Wick) Isaacson of Carlton; his grandparents, Ralph and Evelyn Edwards of Cloquet; nieces Skye and Paige Wick; aunts; uncles; and other relatives and friends.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday and noon until the 1 p.m. service Friday in Barr Brothers Funeral Home, 900 Washington Ave., Cloquet, (218) 879-4636. Private interment in Maple Grove cemetery, Cloquet.

Dorothy Hakes
Dorothy Hakes, 84, of Aitkin died Friday, March 9, 2001, in the Riverwood Extended Care Center, Aitkin.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday in the First Congregational Church, Aitkin. Arrangements by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.

Sherman W. Kavanaugh
Sherman W. Kavanaugh, 76, of East Gull Lake, Minn., died Sunday, March 11, 2001, in Brainerd, Minn.
He was the founder and owner of Kavanaugh's Resort and Restaurant on Sylvan Lake, Minn.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday with 7 p.m. rosary in Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd. Mass of Christian burial 11 a.m. Friday in St. Francis Catholic Church, Brainerd. Burial at St. Thomas of the Pines cemetery, East Gull Lake. Memorials preferred to St. Francis School Endowment Fund.

Martha A. Uppgard
Martha A. Uppgard, 84, of Two Harbors died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at home.
She was born Feb. 10, 1917, to Erick and Ida (Lapinoja) Aho in Bovey. She grew up in Toivola, graduated from Hibbing High School and lived in Duluth, where she worked in Diamond Tool.

She moved to Two Harbors in 1952 and was employed as a waitress and an assistant cook in Lake Superior School District. She retired in 1979. She married Victor Uppgard in 1944.

Martha was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Two Harbors, its Mary Martha Circle and Piece Makers Quilting Group. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, VFW Auxiliary, Knife River Valley Club and Harbor Mates.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor in 1980; a brother, Hjalmer Aho; and a sister, Sally Thompson.

Martha is survived by a son, Raymond (Mary) Luusua of Holyoke; a daughter, Alice (Andy) Haugan of Two Harbors; a sister, Ida Ropponen of Duluth; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday in Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors. Memorials preferred. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

Priscilla V. Berndt
Priscilla V. Berndt, 86, of Bigfork died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Bigfork.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Wednesday in Jesse Lake Lutheran Church, Jesse Lake, Minn. Burial in Greenwood cemetery, Jesse Lake. Arrangements by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.

Dennis Ray Dixon
Dennis R. Dixon, 52, of Cloquet died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in his home.
Born Feb. 27, 1949, in Cloquet to Walfred and Virginia (Wisbiski) Dixon, he was a lifelong area resident. He worked for the Conwed Corp. in Cloquet, on the Great Lakes boats and worked at the Royal Oakes RV Park and Campground in Bemidji.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by brothers David (Helen) Dixon of Duluth, Donald (Linda) Dixon and Doug (Marie) Dixon, both of Cloquet; sisters Wanda Amon of Detroit and Diane Dixon of Cloquet.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday in Bethel Lutheran Church, Scanlon, the Rev. Severt Score officiating. Music by Loren Lindevig. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

Vincent P. Daigle
Vincent P. Daigle, 82, of Cohasset died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in his home.
He was born July 19, 1918, to Anna (Riedl) and Levite Daigle in Ball Club, Minn. Vincent married Mary Nistler in 1946 in Shooks. He owned and operated Daigle Woodworks in Deer River for 34 years. He married Dorothy Nye in 1985 in Grand Rapids. Vincent proudly served his country in a Naval Beach Battalion, participating in eight amphibious invasions in the South Pacific during World War II.

Vincent loved to work with wood and in the garden. He was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Cohasset and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Deer River, where he served on the council for 27 years. He also served on the Farmer's Co-op and Deer River Hospital boards.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; brothers Arthur, Eugene and Quentin; and granddaughters Jessica Daigle and Megan Norris.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons Paul (Diane) of Cohasset, Edward (Gerri) of Bemidji, George (Jaime) of Deer River, Father Steven of Chisholm/Buhl, Theodore of Grand Rapids, John (Mona) of Harwood, N.D., and Timothy (Sandra) of Japan; daughters Margaret Lloyd of St. Cloud, Kathleen (Steven) Stanley of New Brighton, Minn., Jean (Jerry) Kern of Fargo, Annette (Romeo) Daigle of Madawaska, Maine, and Teresa (Rick) Norris of Deer River; stepchildren David (Sharyl) Nye of Decatur, Ala., Diana (Art) Shull of Stanton, N.D., and Grace (Jim Martin) Nye of Ellsworth, Wis.; 29 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and brothers Anthony and Ernest (Barbara) Daigle.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday with 7 p.m. prayer service in St. Augustine's Catholic Church, Cohasset. Service 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Steven Daigle and the Rev. Bruce Engen officiating. Burial in St. Joseph's cemetery, Ball Club. Military honors by VFW Post 2720 of Deer River. Memorials preferred to donor's choice in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.
