Winnefred "Ted" Westby, 98, of Hibbing died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Leisure Hills, Hibbing.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie (Minerich); daughters Randy (Edward) Danculovich and Jill (Bob) Ross; sisters Beatrice Kreps and Carnethia "Toots" Greniger; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Thursday in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery, Hibbing.

Mary L. Ginell
Mary L. Ginell, 90, of Chisholm died Monday, March 12, 2001, in Buchanan Nursing Home, Chisholm.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Robert) Fesnick; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m. service Thursday in Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm. Burial in Chisholm cemetery.

Edward R. "Eddie" Eck
Edward R. "Eddie" Eck, 45, of Hibbing died Monday, March 12, 2001, in University Medical Center-Mesabi.
He is survived by brothers Roger (Lynette) and Gary (Kathy); a sister, Peggy Severson; and nieces and nephews Mike, Brian and Beverly Eck and Jeff Severson.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing and 1 until the 2 p.m. service Thursday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hibbing. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery, Hibbing.

Rena Grace Huisinger
Rena Grace Huisinger, 85, of Cloquet passed away Thursday, April 26, 2001, in the Cloquet Community Memorial Convalescent Nursing Care Section.
She was born April 26, 1916, in Chicago to Edward and Minnie (Wolbrink) Brower. She attended school in Chicago. Rena worked for Johnson & Johnson in Chicago before moving to Cloquet in 1956. Rena married George Huisinger on Feb. 18, 1956.

Rena was a homemaker and loved raising her family. Her hobbies were fishing, crocheting and gardening. She was a very caring, family oriented mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; two sisters; two brothers; and her parents.

Rena is survived by her son, Ron (Brenda) Huisinger of Cloquet; grandchildren David and Melissa; sisters Daisy and Anna Brower, both of Chicago; and her special friends, Marlyn and Judy Ninneman and their children, Brad, Brian, Brenda, Lisa and Lori.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Saturday in Bethany Covenant Church, 601 Carlton Ave., Cloquet. Interment in Perch Lake cemetery, Perch Lake Township. Arrangements by Wefelmeyer-Handevidt Funeral Home, Cloquet, (218) 879-6741.

William Carl Oscar Janke
William Carl Oscar Janke, 84, of Alborn passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2001, in Cloquet Community Memorial Convalescent Nursing Care Section.
He was born Oct. 21, 1916, in New Prague, Minn., to William and Augusta (Dallmann) Janke. He married Dorothy Lind on Feb. 28, 1943. William served in the medical attachment of the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946. He worked for the DM&IR; Railway for 28 years. He was a brakeman and retired in 1979 as yardmaster. He also was a logger and a farmer.

William was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Saginaw and a member of the Cloquet American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Carl Amborn; a sister, Elva Janke; and a brother, Harvey.

William is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; sons Harold (Margaret) and William E. (Wendy), both of Alborn, Howard (Ruth) of Esko and Ellwyn (Delores) of Saginaw; daughters Joan (Myron) Ugstad, Lois (John) Larson and Alice (Raymond) Larson, all of Alborn; brothers Howard (Esther) Amborn of Minneapolis and Ronald (Karen) Amborn of Saginaw; a sister, Selma Arbuckle of Saginaw; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Sunday in St. John's Lutheran Church, 4893 Independence Rd., Saginaw. Interment in St. John's cemetery, Saginaw. Arrangements by Barr Brothers-Handevidt Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cloquet, (218) 879-4636.

George S. Basarich
George S. Basarich, 80, of Hibbing died Thursday, April 26, 2001, in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Carson Lake, Minn., on Jan. 13, 1921, to Steve and Anna (Rabatich) Basarich. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He married Lillian Sandberg of Nashwauk on Aug. 11, 1962. He owned and operated the Modern Liquor store in Hibbing and had worked in real estate for many years.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, VFW Post 8510, American Legion Post 222, Mesaba Rangers, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry SJ USA, Range Shine Club, Hibbing Elks Club, Algonquin Club, Mesaba Lodge 255 and a former member of the Mesaba Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian of Hibbing; daughters Susan (Tim) Degnan of Pengilly and Debra Basarich of Minneapolis; sisters Sophie Simonson, Mary Brooke and Dessie (George) Glumac, all of Hibbing; a grandson, Patrick George Degnan; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Josh Klapatch.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hibbing. The Rev. Erik Holleque officiating. Interment in Fort Snelling National cemetery in St. Paul. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.

Caroline D. Free
Caroline D. Free, 85, of Remer died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, in Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Keller and Janel Fisher; sons Dennis, Ken and Stewart Free; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Saturday in Rowe Funeral Home, Remer. Funeral service 1 p.m. Sunday in Mason Memorial Congregational Church, Remer. Burial in Fairview cemetery.

Catherine Christine Jackson
Catherine Christine Jackson, 91, of Grand Rapids died Thursday, April 26, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 5, 1909 in Lisbon, N.D., to Peter and Magdalena (Thielen) Schlader. She grew up and attended school in Wendigo. She married Walker M. Jackson on June 26, 1928. She had lived in Virginia, Splithand, Wendigo, and most of her life in Blackberry.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Catherine loved to do crafts and crochet, play cards, and cook and bake.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Walker in 1985; a daughter, Virginia in 1991; a granddaughter, Gail Hughes in 1976; four infant Manella grandchildren; her parents; a sister, Johanna; and brothers Peter, Nicholas and Joseph.

Catherine is survived by her children, Doris (Lawrence) Manella of Grand Rapids, Laura (Richard) Hughes of Chico, Calif., Kathleen (Fred) Bartick of Deer River and Rodney Jackson of Grand Rapids; sisters Mildred Matthews of Grand Rapids and Laurine Berardo of Taconite; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday with 5 p.m. parish wake prayer service in Libbey Funeral Home Chapel, Grand Rapids. Mass of Christian burial 11 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial in Harris Township cemetery, Grand Rapids.

Donovan Slough
Donovan Slough, 69, of Palisade died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, in his home.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Sunday in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin, and continues noon until the 1 p.m. service Monday in Bethel Lutheran Church, Palisade.

Donna Lee Coon
Donna Lee Coon, 50, of Hibbing died Thursday, April 26, 2001, in the University Medical Center-Mesabi.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis; sons Michael and Allan (Stephanie); sisters Mona (Michael) Pierce and Susan Thronson; and grandchildren Brock, Morgan and Jacqueline.
Private family service to be held. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery, Hibbing. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.

Joseph A. Bradach Sr.
Joseph A. Bradach Sr., 97, of Aurora died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in White Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Aurora.
Memorial Mass: 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Aurora. The Rev. Father Joseph Sirba as celebrant. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Aurora.

Gregory "Sweaty" Joseph
Swartout
Gregory "Sweaty" Joseph Swartout, 38, of Two Harbors died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, in the Sunrise Home in Two Harbors.
He was born Feb. 8, 1963, in Duluth to Henry and Maxine (Blomberg) Swartout and lived in the Duluth and Superior area until moving to the Two Harbors area in March 1992. He married Darla Palola on Oct. 20, 1993.

He enjoyed being an artist, the outdoors, fishing, camping, movies, dirt bikes and collecting football cards.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; a brother, Jeffrey; and an uncle, Jerry.

He is survived by his wife, Darla of Two Harbors; sons Jeff and Brandon; his father, Henry (JoLinda) of Parkton, N.C.; his mother, Maxine Ossoinik of Webster, Wis., a brother Henry (Savannah) of Hope Mills, N.C., a sister, JoLinda (Lane) Carter of Lillington, N.C.; two nieces; a nephew; nine aunts and uncles; 17 cousins; and many special friends.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Two Harbors. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.
