Steven John Riehle
Steven John Riehle, 42, of Grand Rapids died Friday, May 25, 2001, in his home.
He was born Nov. 9, 1958, in Grand Rapids to John H. Sr. and Delia M. (Panebianco) Riehle. He grew up there and attended school, graduating from Grand Rapids High School in 1977. He later graduated from Itasca Community College earning a welding certificate.

He worked at Northern Pipeline for 20 years as a welder and pipefitter and at the time of his death was working for Local 589. He was united in marriage to Shelly Funnell on March 15, 1986, in Grand Rapids.

He was a member of Pokegama Golf Course and was on the Wednesday night men's league.

He is survived by his wife, Shelly; children Tony and Jamie, both at home; his parents, Delia and John H. Riehle Sr. of Grand Rapids; sisters Janet Rothmeyer of Aurora, Colo., Carole (Jim) Woodard of Springfield, Tenn., and Patty (Jerry) Wischnewski of Berwick, Maine; brothers John S. (Sam) Riehle Jr., Mark Riehle and David (Joanne) Riehle, all of Grand Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today in the Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids. Service at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, the Rev. George B. Gilbertson officiating. Burial in Itasca Calvary cemetery in Grand Rapids. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Amanda Hilton
Amanda Hilton, 94, of Hill City, Minn., died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Jackson; sons Jack, Jim, Harry, Robert and Patrick Hilton; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be at a later date. Burial in Waukenabo cemetery, Waukenabo Township, Minn. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Bertha Gladys Grover
Bertha Gladys Grover, 91, of International Falls died Friday, May 25, 2001.
She is survived by a son, Albert "Swede" Erickson, and a daughter, Ruth Ann Herberg, both of International Falls.
Service: 1 p.m. today in First Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary, Inc., of International Falls.

Jewel Genevieve Turenne
Jewel Genevieve Turenne, 85, of International Falls died Sunday, May 27, 2001.
Survivors include a son, Paul (Marcia) Turenne of International Falls, and a daughter, Diane Turenne Arenz of Madison, Wis.
Service: 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Thomas Catholic Church. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary, Inc., of International Falls.

Alice C. Hillman
Alice C. Hillman, 87, of Ely died Monday, May 28, 2001, in the Ely-Bloomenson Nursing Home.
She was born in Ely on Sept. 30, 1913, to parents Steve and Ollie (Anderson) Thompson.

Alice was the winner of the 1998 Volunteer of the Year award and was an active and devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ely. She was a Girl Scout leader, PTA president, a charter member of the Ely Hospital Auxiliary and coffee cart lady for more than 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester; sisters Evie and Gladys; brothers Clarence and Clifford; and granddaughters Susan Wagner and Kimberly Hillman.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy (William) Wagner of Ely; sons Tom (Ann) of Hoyt Lakes and Mike of Ely; grandchildren Beth Wagner Adams, and Marc, David, Zachary and Allison Hillman; and four great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church in Ely, the Rev. Ann Williamson officiating. Burial in Ely cemetery.

Leonard J. Dimberio
Leonard J. Dimberio, 76, of Mountain Iron died Monday, May 28, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in the Range Funeral Home in Virginia. Burial in Calvary cemetery, Virginia.

Dorothy (Newton) Alumbaugh
Dorothy (Newton) Alumbaugh died Monday, May 28, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospice in Duluth.
Born Aug. 4, 1913, in Chicago, Dorothy married Jim in 1935. They lived in Elmwood Park, Ill., where they were active members of St. Vincent Ferrer Church. They moved to Minong, Wis., in 1976 and became members of St. Mary's Church. Dorothy earned degrees in medicine, psychology, art, fishing and Feng Shei from the University of Life. She was known and loved for her hospitality and generosity.

She is survived by her loving husband, James; her children, Jacqueline (Robert) Dymit of Jordan, Minn., Denis (Ginette) Alumbaugh of Media, Penn., Janice (Daniel) Pilon of Solon Springs and Susan Brenning of Duluth; a sister, Jeanne Selcke of Trego; grandchildren Barry Dymit, Julie (David) Lee, Jonathan (Cheryl) Dymit, David (Marilyn) Dymit, Lisabeth (Maurey) Pardo, Peter (Molly) Dymit, William Dymit, Paul Dymit, Michael (Jennifer) Alumbaugh, Daniel Alumbaugh, David Alumbaugh, Mark Pilon, Christopher (Kristin) Pilon, Margot Pilon, Daniel Brenning, Michael (Tracy) Brenning and Laura Brenning; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. in Brown Funeral Home, Minong. Visitation continues from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. celebration of life service Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Minong, Father James Powers as celebrant. Interment in Greenwood cemetery, Minong.

James Matthew
"Sugar Bear" Burgraff
James Matthew "Sugar Bear" Burgraff, 48, of Wrenshall died Monday, May 28, 2001, in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 10, 1953, to Harold and Mary Kathryn (Gentry) Burgraff in Cloquet. Jim attended grade school at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1971. He attended Vo-Tech in Duluth for electronics.

Jim worked for a short time in St. Cloud, Minn., and for Conwed in Cloquet. He was an electrician with Potlatch from 1975 to 2000. Jim was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Potlatch. He was a member of United Paper Workers Local 97 and for many years enjoyed serving as shop steward, adjustment committee member, vice president and president, and on numerous other committees. Jim married Kay Sorenson on May 28, 1997, in Las Vegas.

Sugar Bear was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter. His favorite times were spent on the lake with his wife, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents;and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; a son, Christian Burgraff of Duluth; a daughter, Angelica Burgraff of Missouri; stepchildren Sara and Preston of Wrenshall; brothers Harold "Mike" (Barb) Burgraff of Garden Grove, Calif., and George (Karen) Burgraff of Esko; a grandson, Joshua Burgraff; an uncle, George (Doris) Burgraff; an aunt, Patricia Gentry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday with a rosary service at 7 p.m. and continues 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Friday, all in Nelson Funeral Care. Pastor Mike Keller will officiate.

The honorary pallbearers will be: Kaari Isakson, Steni McLeod, Steve Bassa and Lee Overgsten. Honorary pallbearers, along with his brother, George, allowed Jim to keep his hunting and fishing dream alive during his illness. A luncheon will be served following the service in the Nelson Funeral Care reception area. Private family inurnment in Holyoke cemetery. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.

Inez R. Kirk
Inez R. Kirk, 85, of Chisholm died Sunday, May 27, 2001, in Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm.
She was born Dec. 17, 1915, in Chisholm to Herman and Hilda (Granrose) Laine. She attended Chisholm Schools and was a lifelong Chisholm resident. She was united in marriage on July 29, 1944, in Chisholm, to John F. Kirk. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Chisholm and was a homemaker.

Inez was a devoted daughter, a loving wife for 53 years, a wonderful mother to her three children and a fun-loving grandmother to her four grandchildren. She was a sister who loved her three brothers and two sisters, and was a "favorite auntie" to many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John F. on Oct. 28, 1997; a sister, Miriam Zarich; and brothers Larry, Eino "Keno" and William Laine.

Survivors include her children, Mary Jean (Edwin) Waters of Chisholm, John S. (Cathy) Kirk of Hatley, Wis., and Patricia (John) Ruud of Chisholm; grandchildren Lara and Erik Ruud, and Katie and Kelly Kirk; a sister, Esther (Angelo) Vittori of Chisholm; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Friday in Faith Lutheran Church, the Rev. Lilette E. Johnston officiating. Interment in the Chisholm cemetery. Arrangements by Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Chisholm.

Evelyn Ann Verbick
Evelyn Ann Verbick of Gilbert died Tuesday, May 29, 2001.
Survivors include a niece, Kathy Sterk of Gilbert; a nephew, Michael (Linda) Sterk and daughter, Lauren Sterk, all of Hoyt Lakes.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today with wake prayers at 6:30 p.m. in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Gilbert. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gilbert. Burial in Gilbert cemetery.

William R. Hukka Jr.
William R. Hukka Jr., 69, of Hibbing died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in his home.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila; sons Michael (Beth) Hukka, Tsgt. Mark (Nancy) Hukka USAF (ret.) and Maj. Randy (Pam) Hukka USAF; a daughter, Raegan (Rob) Sipe; nine grandchildren; brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews, cousins.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
