Dale Michael Rundell
Dale Michael Rundell, 63, of Brookston died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 16, 2001.
Dale was born May 14, 1938, to Mark and Edith (Briggs) Rundell in Sylvan Township, Cass County, Minn., and attended school in Minneapolis and St. Paul. He received a master's degree in St. Cloud. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1961 and began teaching in 1964. Dale taught both elementary and special education, the last 27 years in Cloquet. He was a member of the Duluth Symphony Chorus and a contributing member of the Maestro's Circle of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra. He was currently working for the Duluth Pack store in Canal Park. Dale was a storyteller and did historical presentations. He volunteered frequently at local grade schools and was a collector of trade beads. He supported environmental issues that affected northern Minnesota. He also studied Minnesota history extensively throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include sons Michael of Richfield, Minn., and Christopher of Cloquet; a daughter, Lisa (David) Bonine of VanAlstyne, Texas; grandchildren Elise Bonine and David Bonine IV; brothers Eugene Rundell of Mound, Minn., and Larry (Sue) of Prior Lake, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Monday in Barr Brothers-Handevidt Funeral Home, Cloquet, 900 Washington Ave., Cloquet, 879-4636. Private interment at a later date.
Carl Martin Beltt
Carl Martin Beltt, 56, formerly of Cromwell and Cloquet, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 10, 2001, in LaCrosse, Wis.
Carl attended the University of Minnesota and served in the Peace Corps in Korea.
He is survived by brothers Bruce of St. Peter, Minn., Neil of Waconia, Minn., Jerry of Minneapolis, Paul of Duluth, Tom (Kim) of Cloquet and Glen (Sue) of Plymouth, Minn.; seven nieces and nephews; an aunt, Florence Meltzer; and longtime friend Mary Gohlike of LaCrosse.
Mae V. (Flank) Wilenius
Mae V. (Flank) Wilenius, 84, of Bear River, Minn., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at her residence.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John; a son, Johnny Ray (Jennifer) Wilenius of Duluth; daughters Norene Krause of Cambridge, Minn., Bonieva (Russ Swonger) Bartlett of Pierz, Minn., and JoAnn (Terry) Treloar of Bear River; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 2 until the 3 p.m. service Sunday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook, the Rev. Peter Satren officiating. Interment in Morcom cemetery, Bear River. Arrangements by Mlaker Funeral Home, Cook.
Martha Edith Mark
Martha Edith Mark, 83, of International Falls died Thursday, May 17, 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; a son, Charles Arthur "Art" Mark; daughters Charyl Elaine (Don) Korpal and Randi Maurine Mark; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and her very special friend, Maurine Heppner.
Service: 10 a.m. Monday in Zion Lutheran Church. Interment in Indus cemetery. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary, Inc.
Emma C. Nelson
Emma C. Nelson, 90, of Orr died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in the University Medical Center in Hibbing.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Theresa Lynn White (Nii-gah-non), 39, of Inger, Minn., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in Duluth.
Visitation begins after 5 p.m. today with service at 11 a.m. Saturday in Inger Community Center. Burial in Inger cemetery.
Jorma Oscar Wessman
Jorma Oscar Wessman, 71, of Britt died Monday, May 14, 2001, in the Virginia Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 7, 1929, at home in Virginia, the son of Oscar and Elsie (Maki) Wessman. He was a graduate of Virginia High School and married
Joyce Ornberg on Oct. 17, 1953, in the Zion Lutheran Church parsonage. He was a longtime Virginia resident, moving to Britt eight years ago.
Jorma was a veteran of the Korean War, serving four years with the Air Force. He worked for M.A. Hanna and was an employee of the city of Virginia for 35 years, retiring as street commissioner in 1989. He was proud to be the only Finnish street commissioner and was the last street commissioner for the city. He loved to travel and loved to drive charter buses, and most recently loved to drive school bus for Virginia, retiring in June 2000.
Jorma was a self-taught musician. He played guitar, bass and banjo with several area bands and was a member of the musician's local. He played with the Jack Judnick Trio and most recently with the Frank Frol orchestra from 1980 to 1994. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Hiles (Butch) Wessman.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his daughter, Judy (Dan) Peliska of Mountain Iron; his sister, Lillian Putikka of Virginia; grandsons Charlie and John Peliska of Mountain Iron; four nephews; a niece; numerous cousins; and his best friend, Buffy.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Bauman-Cron Funeral Home in Virginia and continues 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Virginia, 1111 S. Eighth St., Pastor Cheryl Berg officiating. The family prefers memorials directed to the Sand Lake Shuffle, American Cancer Society.

Mary E. Doran, 85, of Grand Rapids died Wednesday, March 7, 2001.
She is survived by her sisters Annamay Connor, Katherine Berkeland, Dorothy (Red) Best, Patricia (Bill) Solien, Margaret Schanbachler and Loretta (Frank) Johnson; a brother, Daniel (Deanna) Doran; and many nieces and nephews.

John Joseph Johnson
John Joseph Johnson, 84, of Grand Rapids died Monday, May 14, 2001, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille "Lucy"; daughters Beverly (Rick) Johnson, Bonnie Johnson Carlson, Barbara (Richard) Johnson Felch and Bette Johnson Rutherford; a son, Brian (Wendy) Johnson; a sister, Grace Lynch; a brother, Harry Johnson II; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids. Burial in Itasca-Calvary cemetery.
Chris Pokorny
Chris Pokorny, 42, of International Falls died Saturday, May 12, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital, Duluth.
He was born June 16, 1958, in Cicero, Ill., to Charles and Catherine Pokorny. Along with his family, he moved to Lake Kabetogama in 1971, where they operated Pokorny's Resort. A 1977 graduate of Orr High School, he worked as an auto body repairman and was employed by Sheridan Motors and North Country Collision before opening Rainbow Custom in fall 1988.
He was an avid racing fan and enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, family and friends.
Chris was a loving father, friend, son and brother, according to his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rudy and Helen Pokorny, and his maternal grandmother, Anna Vojta.
Survivors include his children, Christy and Christopher Pokorny, and ex-wife, Lisa M. Reller, all of International Falls; a brother, Cary (Sherry), a nephew, Ryan (Allison) and a niece, Amber Pokorney, all of Lake Kabetogama; a sister, Colleen (Dan) Tipton and sons Shaun and Erik Tipton of Casper, Wyo.; his parents, Charles and Catherine of Casper; an uncle, Frank (Marilyn) Vojta and daughter, Kristin Vojta of Woodruff, Wis.; and numerous friends who were very special to him.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. today at Methodist Church on Lake Kabetogama, with interment following the service.
Katherine E. Amic
Katherine E. Amic, 88, of Ely died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, in the Ely-Bloomensen Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Ely to Olaf and Anna (Mattson) Poksyla. She was a graduate of Ely Memorial High School and attended Young-Hurst Business College in Duluth for two years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ray Netland; her second husband, Joseph Amic; sisters June Poksyla and Ellen Saari; and a brother, Robert Poksyla.
Survivors include her sisters, Ethel Johnson of Pompano Beach, Fla., Evelyn Krause of Maysville, Ga., and Etta Butala, Pearl Kaija and Mildred LeBeau, all of Ely; a special niece, JoEllyn Murphy of Ely; and numerous nieces and nephews.
