Dorothy Andrews Adair Spang
Dorothy Andrews Adair Spang, 83, of Delray Beach, Fla., and formerly of St. Paul, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001.
After her childhood in Grand Rapids, Minn., Dottie graduated from St. Paul Central High School and the University of Minnesota (Pi Beta Phi). She married
Frank Adair, M.D., shortly before World War II and together they raised four children in St. Paul.
She was an active volunteer in the Episcopal Church. After her children were grown, she worked as a counselor at Breck School in Minneapolis. In 1985, she married
childhood friend Larry Spang, and retired in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carolyn and C.K. Andrews; and her brother, Bill Andrews.
In addition to many beloved friends, she is survived by her husband, Larry of Delray Beach; son Dick (Connie) Adair of Minneapolis; daughter Dianne Adair of St. Paul; son Bill (Janna) Adair of Toronto; son Bob Adair of St. Paul; and grandchildren John (Lana) Adair, Charles (Marissa) Adair and Drew Bomcamp, Dave and Sarah Landes, Mike, Chris and Betsy Adair, and Frances, Andy and Lauren Adair.
Eucharist of Christian burial: 3 p.m. Thursday, June 28, in Messiah Episcopal Church, 1631 Ford Parkway, St. Paul. Memorials preferred to University of Minnesota Foundation, 200 Oak St., SE, Suite 500, Minneapolis, MN 55455.
Ronald Dean Sweney
Ronald Dean Sweney, 77, of International Falls died Thursday, June 21, 2001.
Survivors include sons Michael (Karen), Robert (Linda) and David (Angelica) Sweney; a stepson, Tom Holt; daughters Nancy (Richard) Schraeder, Maggie Shoquist and Beverly Sweney (special friend Kim Williams); a stepdaughter, Linda (Delane) Servis; 30 grandchildren; and over 50 great-grandchildren; other relatives.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service Monday in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Interment in Forest Hill cemetery.
Marguerite "Marge" Hughes
Marguerite "Marge" Hughes, 85, of Grand Rapids died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Itasca Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Don; daughters Valerie Hughes and Carol Rasmussen; grandchildren Sara, Scott and Steve; a great-granddaughter, Ashley; a brother, Donald L. Simons; and a sister, Evelyn Erven.

Ailie I. Pylka
Ailie I. Pylka, 76, of Cook died Friday, June 22, 2001, in Cook Nursing Home.
She is survived by a son, Jon (Geraldine) Pylka of Angora; a brother, Frans Wesanen; a granddaughter, Stephanie Pylka; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frederick Crawford "Chips" Block, 68, of Grand Rapids died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at the Itasca Nursing Home in Grand Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; a daughter, Elizabeth Lynn Block; sons Thomas and Stephen.

Richard "Chick" M. Randall
Richard "Chick" M. Randall, 65, of Cloquet died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in his home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Cloquet to Wesley and Victoria (Sobay) Randall. He attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1953. On Feb. 16, 1957, he married
Sylvia Yrios in Cloquet. During the 1950s, Chick worked at Peterson Landscaping and for one year at Conwed. He delivered home heating oil for the majority of his life, working at Lane-Abrahamson Oil Co., and most recently at Trico Oil until his retirement in 1997. He also had been a co-owner of R&H; Landscaping for several years. After his retirement, he enjoyed driving truck for Hammarland Landscaping.
Chick was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet Country Club for 33 years, Big Lake Golf Club, Northlakes Golf Association, the Moose Lodge, Eagles Club, Finlandia Beach Club, AARP and Union Local 346.
He especially enjoyed visiting his daughter, sons, relatives and friends. He enjoyed his grandchildren and granddog, Buddy. Chick was an avid golfer. When not golfing he enjoyed watching golf and football on television with his friends. In addition, he enjoyed bowling, gardening, camping, remodeling the house and garage, softball and coaching Little League.
Chick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Trifley, Kenny and Sam Krueger; and sisters Winnie Covert, Lorraine Gimbel, Pat McCrary and Betty Helstrom.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sylvia; a daughter, Terry (Richard) Johnston of O'Fallon, Ill.; sons Richard (Robbon) and Thomas (Jean), both of Cloquet and James (Dawn) of Princeton; grandchildren Jennifer Johnston of Parkville, Md., Jennifer LeSarge of Bovey, and Michael, Erica, Christine, Jessica and Richard Drade Randall; his English springer spaniel granddog, Buddy; a sister, Ardelle (Dan) Hills of Cloquet; brothers Joe (MaryAnn) Randall and Jack Randall, both of Cloquet; and his mother-in-law, Tina Yrios of Cloquet.
The family will receive friends from 2 until the 3 p.m. memorial service Thursday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 102 Fourth St. in Cloquet, Deacon Terry Twomey officiating. Ned R. Powers
Ned R. Powers, 83, of Grand Rapids died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Lauretta; a daughter, Gloria Blain; sons Ronald and Douglas; and sisters Bernice Gusse and Joyce Gusse.

Mary C. Galloway
Mary C. Galloway, 85, of Hibbing died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in the University Medical Center-Mesabi.
She was born Sept. 1, 1915, in Zortman, Mont., to Mike and Katherine Sopp. She grew up in Virginia, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1935. She was employed as a secretary in the Virginia area, before moving to Hibbing in 1950, where she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Hibbing. She also was a member of the VFW Post 1221 Auxiliary, the Catholic Women's Council and the Chisholm Garden Club. Her favorite times were spent baking and taking part in her granddaughters' activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1992 and a brother, Theodore.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Brian) Simonson of Hibbing; a brother, Frank Sopp of St. Helens, Ore.; sisters Anne (Paul) Sobieck of Baraboo, Wis., Katherine "Kay" Wickstrom of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Frances Olson and Margaret Hautala, both of Eveleth; a sister-in-law, Margie Sopp of Virginia; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Grant and Tynne Galloway of Tujunga, Calif.; and granddaughters Erin, Megan and Kelly Simonson.
Visitation: 10 until the 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Tuesday in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Hibbing, the Rev. James Hauver as celebrant. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.
Esther Hunter
Esther Hunter, 98, of Hibbing died Friday, June 15, 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Mildred (Donald) Sorensen; a grandson, Michael Janasky; a granddaughter, Anita Pouchnik; two brothers; and five sisters. Esther had three biological grandchildren who adored her, yet she was Grandma to numerous other children.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday in the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, the Rev. Jack Harris officiating. Interment in Maple Hill cemetery.
Jerry L. Newman
Jerry L. Newman, 45, of Hibbing died Saturday, June 16, 2001.
He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Marlene; a daughter, Maggie Newman; brothers Rick (Cheryl) Newman and Jimmie (Dawn) Newman; a sister, Patty (Marty) Jance; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 2 until the 3 p.m. service Tuesday in the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, the Rev. Eric Holleque officiating. Jerry's eight nieces and nephews will be represented as honorary pallbearers.
Linda S. Kannas
Linda S. Kannas, 76, of Balsam Township died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
Born March 22, 1925, in Calumet, she was the daughter of John and Anna (Murshu) Kinnunen. A lifelong Itasca County resident, she attended schools in Calumet, Marble and Coleraine, and had been a resident of Balsam Township since 1943. Linda and Milton H. Kannas were married
on April 8, 1943, in South Range, Minn.
Linda was a homemaker and a member of the Balsam Bible Chapel. She was a charter member and past president of the Scenic Senior Citizens, a member of the Balsam Finnish Club, the Itasca Finnish Club and the Balsam Birthday Club. Linda was an avid gardener, loved flowers, and hosted many family and community picnics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Kinnunen; her husband, Milton on Nov. 7, 1999; her daughter, Judy Holmberg on Dec. 21, 1998; and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her son, John (Betty) Kannas of Balsam; grandchildren Sonja (Brian) Jones, Diane (Jody) Holmberg and Elaine (Dean) Holmberg, all of Superior, JoAnn (Dan) O'Rourke of Minneapolis, Susan Kannas of Bloomington and John Kannas Jr., of St. Paul; great-grandchildren Garrett, Justin and Kingslee; sisters Laura Point of Hibbing and Viola (Eugene) Clark of Pequot Lakes, Minn.; and brothers Walter (Lucille) Kinnunen of Fort Collins, Colo., and Lauri Kinnunen of Grand Rapids.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today and continues from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Tuesday in the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine. Interment in Balsam cemetery.
Donald L. Randall
Donald L. Randall, 65, of Aurora died Monday, May 28, 2001, in his residence in rural Aurora.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a son, Donald (Cathy) Randall; daughters Kenne (Robert) Cherro and Antonette (David) Johnson ; a brother and three sisters; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
