Todd A. Shofner, 29, U.S. Army, Germany, formerly of the Calumet area died Friday, June 22, 2001, in Germany.
Services are pending. A complete obituary will appear at a later date. Arrangements by the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.

Charles H. Russell
Charles H. Russell, 75, of Finland, Minn., died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at home.
He was born July 28, 1925, to Ralph and Mabel (Mudge) Russell in Brainerd, Minn. He attended schools in Brainerd and then in Thief River Falls where he graduated frown high school. He served in the U.S. Navy for a period of time and was employed by Remington Rand Univac Corp. as an electronic technician. He worked in Winona until retiring to Finland in the 1970s. He enjoyed fishing in Canada with Lois and being an amateur radio operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Lois.

He is survived by a brother, Robert (Nancy) of Blaine, Minn.; a nephew, Scott (Terri) Russell and their children, Amanda and Catherine; and niece Cynthia Russell and her children, Jacob and Bailey.
A memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

Gertrude H. "Gert" Kangas
Gertrude H. "Gert" Kangas, 89, of Hibbing died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in the University Medical Center-Mesabi, Hibbing.
She is survived by a daughter, Ida (David) Machart; sons Richard and Jeffrey Kangas; a sister, Lillian Cowling; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service was held in the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.

Lloyd E. Danielson
Lloyd E. Danielson, 65, of Grand Rapids died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in his home.
He was born near Parkers Prairie, Minn., to Everett and Nellie (Downing) Danielson and attended school in Parkers Prairie, joining the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage with Eleanor M. Dufault in 1955 in Grand Rapids and worked for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Co. as a truck driver and later a mechanic from 1952 until his retirement in 1981. After retirement, he worked as a part-time carpenter and as a mechanic, restoring cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor in 1978; a brother, Arvid; and sisters Irene Haatvedt and Almeda Maki.

He is survived by a daughter, Sherri (Tim) Lussier of Orlando, Fla.; sons Gerald (Marilyn) of Pensacola, Fla., Gary (Toni) of Nikiski, Alaska, Dale (Patti) of Casper, Wyo., Michael of Tucson, Ariz., James (Shanie) of Grand Rapids; sisters Marge Whalen, Lois Ripsen, Avis Merhar, Phyllis Larson, all of Minneapolis, Mary Lou Marcella of Aurora; a brother, Vernon of Coleraine; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Monday in Assemblies of God Church, Grand Rapids. Burial with military honors in Itasca-Calvary cemetery, Grand Rapids. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Anne P. Babich
Anne P. Babich, 81, of Virginia died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in the Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi, Hibbing.
She was born Jan. 15, 1920, in McKinley to John and Mary (Zigmond) Mohar. She grew up in McKinley and attended school in Gilbert, graduating from Gilbert High School. On Jan. 18, 1942, she was united in marriage to John A. Babich. Following marriage, the couple lived in McKinley prior to making their home in Virginia. She had been employed by the Arrow Shirt Factory in Gilbert and Virginia until her retirement.

She had been a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1994; two brothers; two sisters; and her parents.

She is survived by daughters Beverly McDonald of St. Paul and Audrey Willoughby of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass today with a 10 a.m. Knights of Columbus rosary service in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Virginia. Burial in Lakeside cemetery, Biwabik. Arrangements by the Range Funeral Home, Virginia.

Dr. Kurt A. Johnson, DDS
Dr. Kurt A. Johnson, DDS, 40, of Marine-On-St. Croix, Minn., formerly of Hoyt Lakes, died Monday, June 25, 2001, in the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital, Minneapolis.
He was born Oct. 1, 1960, to Richard and Elizabeth "Betty" (Houska) Johnson in Aurora. He grew up and attended school in Hoyt Lakes, graduating from Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School in 1979. He attended Mesabi Community College, Virginia, then the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He earned a bachelor of science degree in biology. He furthered his education at University of Minnesota Dental School, where he earned his doctorate of dental science degree in 1989. He lived in Minneapolis before moving to Marine-On-St. Croix. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and St. Michael's Church Choir in Stillwater, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Johnson.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson of Hoyt Lakes; a brother, Paul (Carolyn) Johnson of Maryville, Mo.; a sister, Lynn O'Hara of Hayward; nephews Peter Johnson and Keaton O'Hara Chapman; an uncle, Robert (Jean) Houska of International Falls; and his faithful German shepherd, Kaiser.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 6 p.m. in Range Funeral Home, Hoyt Lakes. Visitation continues from 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral Mass Tuesday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Hoyt Lakes, the Rev. Joseph Sirba as celebrant. Burial in Hoyt Lakes Memorial cemetery.

Mayme J. Mohar
Mayme J. Mohar, 82, of Biwabik died Saturday, June 23, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Kenneth) Hicks; sons James Mohar and Gary Mohar; brothers Robert Delak and Edward Delak; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 27, in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Gilbert. As a memorial to Mayme, please plant a flower in her memory.

Joanna Eleanor Easum
Joanna Eleanor Easum, 93, of Cloquet, formerly of Ocala, Fla., died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born July 1, 1907, in Poland and immigrated to the United States at the age of 7. She moved to the Cloquet area from Florida in December 1999 and was a resident at the Hyva Home in Cloquet.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, and several siblings.

Joanna is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 2 until the 3 p.m. service Friday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Interment in Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, Ocala.

Pearl B. (Mim) Samson
Centenarian
Pearl B. (Mim) Samson, 100, of Minneapolis, formerly of Hibbing, died Monday, June 25, 2001.
She is survived by a son, David of Hibbing; daughters Lorraine Carlson, Dar Hollen and Betty (John) Wallace; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Sunday in First Lutheran Church, the Rev. Wendell Schiell officiating. Burial in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Hibbing. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.

Anna Marie Bergmann
Anna Marie Bergmann, 75, of Pengilly died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
She was born Feb. 11, 1926, to Anthony and Anna (Gangl) Waldvogel in Grey Eagle, Minn. She was a resident of Nashwauk from 1950 to 1953 before moving to Pengilly in 1953. She was a member of St. Kevin's Catholic Church in Pengilly. She was also a member of the Council of Catholic Women.

Anna was an accomplished seamstress and was a Minnesota Twins fan. She enjoyed her family and gardening. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Waldvogel; her mother and stepfather, Anna and Henry Nieman; brothers George, Bernie and Ozzie; a half-brother, Duane; stepbrothers Herb, Hilbert, Rupert and Boyd; and stepsisters Dorothy, Carol, Jessie and Mabel.

She is survived by her husband, Duane "Dewey" Bergmann of Pengilly; a son, Gary (Kathy) Bergmann of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Diane (Glen) Hodgson of Grand Rapids; sisters Fran Maciej of Hibbing, Angie (Paul) Schroetter of Nashwauk and Gloria (Bob) Bobich of Nashwauk; a half-brother, Richard Nieman of Boring, Ore.; a step-brother, Harold (Ardy) Nieman of Minneapolis; and grandchildren Debbie (Ron) Gartenschlager, Gary Duane Bergmann, Christopher Hodgson and Kelly (Wade) Jackson.
Visitation: 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday with wake prayers at 9:30 a.m. in St. Kevin's Catholic Church, Pengilly, where Mass of Christian burial is at 11 a.m. The Rev. Ron Gagne is celebrant and the Rev. Noel Stretton is con-celebrant. Interment in Nashwauk cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing.

Mildred E. Laudenbach
Mildred E. Laudenbach, 96, of Grand Rapids died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in the Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids.
She is survived by daughters Mary Chambers and Lucille Johnson; sons Donald (Donna), Bob (Darline) and Jack (Myrna) Laudenbach; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday in the Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. Burial in the veteran's section of Itasca-Calvary cemetery, Grand Rapids.

John D. Sutkaitis
John D. Sutkaitis, 71, of Zim died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service Friday in McDavitt Town Hall, Zim. Arrangements by the Range Funeral Home of Virginia.
