Jean Nylund
Jean Nylund, 79, formerly of Kinney, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in the Virginia Convalescent Center.
She was born Feb. 13, 1922, to Olaf and Ida (Pihjala) Pary in New York Mills, Minn. She grew up and attended school in New York Mills. On Dec. 15, 1945, she married
George Nylund in Chicago. They lived in Chicago until the early 1950s when they made their home in Kinney. In December 1989, she moved to the Alice Nettle Tower in Virginia where she enjoyed her remaining years. She was an avid Cubs and Vikings fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1976; a brother, Wallace Pary; and her parents.
Survivors include her children, Donald (Mary) Nylund of Alexandria, Carol (Dwayne) Haffield of Worthington, Chas (Brenda) Nylund of Mountain Iron and Becky Nylund of Bloomington; grandchildren Jeffrey, Jennifer, Chad and Tyler Nylund, and Mariah Haffield; brothers Bob (Mary) Pary of New York Mills and Charlie (Mercedes) Pary of New York Mills; sisters Betty (Eldred) Pikkaraine of Ottertail and Susan (Gerald) Van Watermulen of Perham; a brother-in-law, Edward (Aino) Nylund of Phelan, Calif.; special friend, Fred Heikkila of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today and from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Friday in the Range Funeral Home, Virginia, the Rev. Clarence Schaffner officiating. Burial in Lakeview cemetery in Buhl.
Doris Louise Damjanovich
Doris Louise Damjanovich, 72, of Keewatin died Tuesday, June 19, 2001.
She is survived by sons Dan (Diane Sittlow) and John (Rose); a brother, Jimmy Jacobson; sisters Esther Bellefy, Ethel Spawn, Helen Adey and Mildred Mitchell; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the noon service Friday in the Congregation of the Good Shepherd Church in Keewatin. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.
Louis Joseph Romanek
Louis Joseph Romanek, 80, of Eldersburg, Md., formerly of Cloquet, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Oasys Eldercare, Columbia, Md.
He was born March 13, 1921, in Floodwood. He was an Army veteran and served in Europe from 1942 to 1945. Louis was employed by Floodwood Mercantile and Wood Conversion Mill in Cloquet from 1947 to 1957. He moved to California in 1957 and was employed by the Brookman Construction Co. until 1977. He moved to Texas in May 1985, then to Arizona in March 1993, and finally to Maryland in August 2000.
Louis was preceded in death by a sister, Rosalye Dub (nee Romanek).
He is survived by his wife, Eileen of Eldersburg; a son, Rick (Roseanne) Romanek; a daughter, Suzanne (John) Boland; grandchildren Rylie Romanek, Jamie Boland, Bryan Boland, Stephen Boland, Jimmy Bertrand and Melanie Bertrand; sisters Loretta Wayne (nee Romanek) and Teresa Tyrell (nee Romanek); and brothers Herbert Romanek, Adolph Romanek and Cubby Romanek.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass Tuesday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet, the Rev. Father Kenton Sailstad as celebrant. Inurnment services will follow at Old Calvary cemetery with military honors presented by the Cloquet Honor Guard. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.
Matthew A. Moore
Matthew A. Moore, 17, of Aitkin died Friday, July 19, 2001, as the result of a car accident.

Clyde Saylor
Clyde Saylor, 83, of Grand Rapids and formerly of Hill City, Minn., died Saturday, July 21, 2001, in Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
He was born in Shovel Lake, Minn., where he was raised and attended school. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was united in marriage to Leona Valley on Sept. 11, 1943, in San Diego, Calif. He returned to the Hill City area after the war and worked for U.S. Steel for 32 years, retiring in 1979. He had lived in Grand Rapids since January 2000.
He was a member of Hill City Baptist Church in Hill City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ignatious and Nora (Carpenter) Saylor; a daughter, Judith Starr; and eight brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Leona; daughters Jane (Robert) Tobeck of Grand Rapids and Patty (Lonnie) Lee of Hill City; sons Albert (Denise) of Anoka, Minn., and William (Mary) of Elk River, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Romelle Claire Bloomquist
Romelle Claire Bloomquist, 80, of Hibbing died Saturday, July 21, 2001.
She is survived by her son, John; her daughter, Roberta (Gary) Opheim; two grandchildren; a niece; two grandnieces; a great-grandniece; two great-grandnephews; and many friends.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, and continues from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Wednesday in First Lutheran Church of Hibbing. Interment in Ft. Snelling National cemetery on Thursday.

Ethel L. Jereczek, 80, of Sturgeon Lake, formerly of St. Paul, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2001, in her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 10, 1920, to Erick and Emma (Christiansen) Gulbranson in Adolph, Minn. Ethel loved to read.
She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
Ethel is survived by her husband, Stanley; sisters Esther (William) Buscko of Cloquet and Doris (Don) Rozycki of Texas; and nieces and nephews.

Colleen M. Thiel, 53, of Hibbing died Sunday, July 22, 2001.
She is survived by her sisters, Marianne (Duane) Mickelson, Michele (Gary) Osborne and Terese (Tony) Machin; brothers Richard (Carolyn) Thiel and Robert (Jerri) Thiel; her beloved nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Arnold Peter Servaty, 78, of Hoyt Lakes died Saturday, July 21, 2001.
He is survived by sons Mike (Debbie), Mark (Nanette) and Peter (Brenda); daughters Chris Servaty, Denise (Jack) Williams and Suzanne (Paul) Bowman; a brother; and grandchildren.

William D. Vinje

William D. Vinje, 60, of Esko died suddenly Saturday, July 21, 2001.
Bill was born Sept. 14, 1940, in Granite Falls, Minn., to Clarence and Berneice (Fruin) Vinje. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1958. He married
Yvonne Wood in Brainerd in 1959.
Bill worked for Potlatch in Brainerd for one year until purchasing his first truck. He drove over the road for 11 years until founding Halvor Lines Inc. in 1968. Bill and his family together built the business to be a proven leader in the transportation industry.
He was a past president and member of the Duluth-Superior Transportation Association, a member of American Trucking Association, and a member of Minnesota Trucking Association. He was also a member of Northland Country Club and Kitchi Gammi Club of Duluth.
Bill had a passion for boating and flying. He attained his U.S. Coast Guard captain's license and his pilot's license. Some of Bill's other interests included hunting, fishing, golfing and snowmobiling with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Yvonne; his mother, Berneice Vinje of Granite Falls; his children, Susan Vinje of Sturgeon Lake, Joe (Tammy) Vinje, Lori (Steve) Vinje-Pint, Kimberly Vinje-Juntunen and Jon (Shari) Vinje, all of Esko; grandchildren Sean and Jason Vinje, Ryan Fraley, Justin and Mollie Juntunen, Jordan and Jenna Coughlin, and Madison and Mason Vinje; a brother, Clarence "Punk" Vinje of Brainerd; a sister, Pat (Jim) O'Toole of Tea, S.D.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Bill will be remembered for his determination and drive to succeed in all of his endeavors. His radiant smile and giving heart will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
