NEWELL L. "SAM" DRAXTEN
Newell L. "Sam" Draxten, 65, of Calumet died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
He was born Feb. 13, 1936, in Litchfield, Minn., the son of Newtie and Lucille (Krook) Draxten. He had lived in Litchfield, Detroit, Minneapolis and Calumet. He was a 1954 graduate of Greenway High School. Sam and Irene Maney were married
June 27, 1959, in Marble. He had been a foreman for Dukee-Atwood Manufacturing in Minneapolis for 25 years and had worked in sales in Alloy-Hardfacing & Engineering Co., of Jordon, Minn., for 15 years. A veteran of the Army, he had served in Germany and was an avid golfer and fisherman.
His parents, Newtie and Lucille Draxten preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; daughters Greta L. Berger of Anoka, Minn., and Kelly Draxten of New Prague, Minn.; granddaughters Rachael and Ashley Berger, and Breanna Draxten; sisters Lylias (Bud) Hodgson of Princeton, Minn., and Bev (Don) Carlson of Superior; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday and continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Saturday in Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine, the Rev. Stephen B. Knudson officiating. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine.
EMOGEAN "EM" CHENEY
Emogean "Em" Cheney, 71, of the Vermilion Lake area near Remer, Minn., died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, in her home.
Survivors include her husband, Oliver "Ollie"; daughters Buffy Arvidson, Myrna Cheney and Ione Boor; sons Darrel, Dean and Vern Cheney; two sisters; a brother; 17 grandchildren; and seven and a half great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 1 until 2 p.m. service Saturday in West Cohasset Chapel. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.
CLEMENT F. HANSON
Clement F. Hanson, 78, of Nashwauk died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, in his Nashwauk residence.
He was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Taconite, to William and Esther (Johnson) Hanson. He grew up in Taconite, was a 1941 graduate of Greenway High School, and has been a resident of Nashwauk since 1946. He married
Alva Mae Larson on June 15, 1946, in Minneapolis. He was foreman for U.S. Steel, retiring in 1981 with 40 years of service. As a high school student, he had worked in the movie theaters in Nashwauk and Coleraine. He was a World War II veteran of the Army, a member of Nashwauk United Methodist Church and Nashwauk American Legion Post 0307.
His parents, William and Esther Hanson; his first granddaughter, Heather Lee Hanson; a sister, Violet Dunstan; and brothers Edward, Richard and Donald Hanson preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Alva Mae of Nashwauk; sons Edward F. (Joyce), Robert A. (Becky) and David P. Hanson, all of Nashwauk; daughters Susan M. (Steve) Modich of Bemidji and Shirley J. Hanson of Minneapolis; grandchildren Christopher E. Hanson, Casey J. Modich, Elizabeth M. Modich-Smith, Robert A. Hanson II, Kristi A. Hanson, Jeremiah R. Modich and Holly S. Hanson; a great-grandchild, Madeline Modich-Smith; brothers Art (Avis) Hanson of Eveleth and Dudley (Pat) Hanson of Taconite; and a special friend, Mary Lynn DeGreene.

JUDITH HENNRETTA ANDERSON
Judith H. Anderson, 99, of Mustang, Okla., formerly of Cloquet died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in Mustang.
She was born May 30, 1902, in Dalbo, Minn., to Andrew and Ida (Johnson) Lance. She moved to Cloquet in 1908 and was united in marriage to Adolph Anderson June 25, 1925. Judith was the oldest member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet. She formerly worked at Diamond Match in Cloquet and was a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters Esther Sundberg and Vera Magnuson; and a brother, Hartvik Lance.
She is survived by daughters Lois Olson of Mustang, Virginia Gamble of Ferndale, Wash., and Shirley (Sylvester) Schafter of Yuma, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service Monday in Zion Lutheran Church, Cloquet. Interment services will follow in Maple Grove cemetery, Cloquet. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.
WARREN D. BRIDGE
Warren D. Bridge, 83, of Deer River, formerly of Federal Dam, Minn., died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in Deer River.

ALICE T. OLSON
Alice T. Olson, 82, of Cannon Falls, Minn., formerly of Hibbing died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001.
She is survived by a brother, Art Asuma; a daughter-in-law, June (Jim) Pottenger; grandchildren Wade Olson and Heidi (Greg) Spaeth; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

BERTHA CLARA KLENNERT
Bertha Clara Klennert, 64, of Blackberry Township, Minn., died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in her home.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; daughters Debra Steinbach and Tracy Davis; sons Todd Klennert and Mark Klennert; sisters Evelyn Lund, Pearl McMullen and Beverly Talonen; and seven grandchildren.

Jack Johnson, 70, of Chisholm died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, in Fairview University Medical Center, Hibbing.

ARVID WILFRED ANDERSON
Arvid Wilfred Anderson, 89, of Wright died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton.
He was born July 5, 1912, in Waseca, Minn., to Alfred and Christine (Johnson) Anderson. He married
Lillian Johnson on Jan. 31, 1939, in Northwood, Iowa. He moved to Cromwell in 1950, where he farmed and also worked in Diamond Match. Arvid also worked in the feed store in Cromwell and for Northern Pacific Railroad. Since retiring in 1974, he had lived in Riverview Apartments in Floodwood and Southview Apartments in Cromwell before moving to Wright in 1989.
Arvid was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Young Old Timers of Cromwell and the Wright Senior Citizens. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and planting trees.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd and Roy; and sisters Ida Leslie, Dorothy Ziese and Alice Glenn.
Arvid is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian of Wright; sons Arvin (Bonnie), Eugene (Joey) and John (Rene), all of Wright and Anthony of Salmon, Idaho; daughters Judy (David) Johnson of Barnum and Yvonne (William) Unkelhaeuser of Carlton; a sister, Marion Weimmers of Murphy, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet and continues from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Saturday in Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell. Burial in Wright Public cemetery.
HAROLD FRED KOHN
Harold F. Kohn, 94, of Cloquet, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1907, to William and Anna (Louie) Kohn and has been a Cloquet resident since 1930. He was united in marriage to Anna Karppinen in Carlton on Feb. 16, 1931. He worked for Potlatch Corp. for 32 years, retiring in 1972 as foreman in the sulfite mill. Harold was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cloquet and was a former president of the congregation. He also was instrumental in building the first Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on 16th Street and Selmser Avenue. He was a volunteer for the Food Shelf program, the Cloquet Nursing Home and Cloquet High School. Harold was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna; brothers Ed, Art and Don Kohn; and sisters Esther Johnson and Gertrude Peacha.
He is survived by sons Gene (Pat) Kohn of Scanlon and Bruce (Lorrie) Kohn of Rhinelander, Wis.; daughter Marcia (Floyd) Ridlington of Cloquet; sister Pearl Passi of Melrose, Minn.; grandchildren Kim Holmi, Mike Kohn and Steve Kohn; eight great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Visitation will continue from noon until the 1 p.m. service Thursday in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cloquet, with the Rev. OLGA T. LARSON
Olga T. Larson, 99, of Grand Rapids died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in On Golden Pond care facility in Cohasset.
Survivors include daughters Shirley Benke of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Marilyn Garrett of Jamestown, N.D., four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

ROLAND "BABE" FELLOWS
Babe Fellows died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, in his home in Tenstrike, where he was born 83 years ago.
He was born June 29, 1918, to Roland W. and Goldie (Epler) Fellows. He grew up in Tenstrike and attended school in Tenstrike, Blackduck, completed his high school education in Bemidji and then attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.
Upon returning home from Minneapolis, he worked in his father's sawmill until he entered the service on Jan. 15, 1942, serving in the Army Air Corps in the American Theater. He married
Pauline Sefcik on Jan. 24, 1945, and at the end of World War II, they returned to Tenstrike and operated the Tenstrike repair shop and gas station. Along with his brother, Marion, he took over selling cedar posts from his father. In 1957, Babe and his wife, Pauline, joined Norman Gladen and started Land O Lakes Wood Preserving Co. and went into the business of pressure-treating wood: posts, poles and lumber. As the operation expanded over the next 20 years, they bought out Norman Gladen. Babe remained active in the business until his illness this year.
He served as mayor of Tenstrike for many years and was also a director of the Minnesota Timber Producers Association since 1973. He served several years on the Farm Home Administration, as well as the North Country Health Services Foundation and the Joint Economic Development Commission in Bemidji. He also served on the Beltrami County Historical Society Board and was its president for one year. As a member of the Tenstrike Community Church, he was on the Board of Trustees for many years and involved with two building projects, and leaves with one under way. His vision for the youth's involvement in the church and community was his purpose in renovating and finishing the ball field in Tenstrike, along with a volleyball court completed this summer. His vision for preserving family and local history is contained in his museum in Tenstrike. His hobbies included model trains, of which he has many, and he was a member of the Northern Ironhorse Railroad Society. His love of baseball came from his early years of playing ball for the Tenstrike Ball Club and watching many local leagues in Fargo, N.D., Grand Forks, N.D., and Duluth, and in later years the Twins and any team he would encounter in his travels around the country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Goldie Fellows; wife, Pauline; and brothers William (Tye) and Marion Fellows.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Fellows and Joan (Dave) Pomp; and grandchildren Anna and Faith Pomp; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today in Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, and from noon until the 1 p.m. service Thursday in Tenstrike Community Church, with Pastor Steve Pomp officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Bemidji. Pallbearers will be Keith Anderson, Ron Anderson, Wayne Dondelinger, Mike Fellows, Ron Fellows, Hank Krigbaum and Herb Lien. Honorary pallbearers will be Neil Bryant, Ernie Crippen, Harry Jones, Enard Ostlund and Joe Welle.
