Herbert "Herb" W. Terhaar, 81, of Cohasset died Tuesday, July 24, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella; three daughters; and four sons.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today with a wake prayer service at 7 p.m. in St. Augustine's Catholic Church, where the Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial with full military honors in Wildwood cemetery, Cohasset. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Diane Solyst
Diane Solyst, 51, of International Falls died Monday, July 23, 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Steven Solyst; a son, Matthew Wade Solyst; a daughter, Stacy Mariy Solyst; a brother, David Deichelbohrer; and a sister, Denise Estes.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Green-Larsen Memorial Chapel, International Falls, where services will be at 2 p.m. Friday. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary, Inc., International Falls.

John Karkkanen
John Karkkanen, 88, of Grand Rapids and former longtime resident of Jacobson died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in Wigand Foster Care Home, Cohasset.
John is survived by his sister, Ailie Karkkanen of Grand Rapids.
Visitation: 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday in Jacobson Community Church, Jacobson, the Rev. Leonard Palkki officiating. Burial in Sage cemetery, Sago Township. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

ROBERT MANSON KELLER
Robert Manson Keller, 64, of Virginia, formerly of Ely, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in the Virginia Regional Medical Center.
Born July 6, 1937, in Aitkin to parents Robert and Vivian Keller, he attended school in Hill City. Bob served in the Army for 12 years. He worked for Reserve Mining Co. in Babbitt and managed Northern Terrace in Ely before retiring to Virginia. He enjoyed his time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and a grandson, Robert Shusta, in February 2001.

Survivors include his loving wife, Margaret; daughters Joanne Osterbauer of Nashville, Patti (Mick) Shusta of Ely, Vivian (Gerald) Bush of Aurora; his mother, Vivian Wilson of Cedar, Minn.; brothers Richard (Marilyn) Keller of Junction City, Ore., Bruce (Bonnie) Keller of Embarrass, Curtis (Barb) Wilson of Rush City; sisters Cherie (Alan) Heiking of Waukasha, Wis., Penny (Duane) Kelly of Cedar, Patricia Hudek of Blaine, Minn.; and best friend, Ervin Minier of Ely; several grandchildren.
MEMORIAL SERVICE:11 a.m. Tuesday in Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely, the Rev. George Wick officiating.

IRENE P. JOHNSON
Irene P. Johnson, 86, of Hibbing died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorelei "Lori" (Stan) Hendrickson; a son, Larry (Debbie) Johnson; a sister, Avis (Henry) Haugland; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and two nieces.
MEMORIAL SERVICE:11 a.m. Wednesday in Wesley United Methodist Church. Inurnment in Chisholm cemetery. Arrangements by Anderson-Daniels, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Hibbing.

AUNE ESTHER LAURILA
Aune Esther Laurila, 87, of Grand Rapids died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in Grand Rapids.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Saturday in Bigfork Lutheran Church, Bigfork.

MARY A. OGNANOVICH
Mary A. Ognanovich, 85, of Chisholm died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Buchanan Nursing Home, Chisholm.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Virginia Ogann of Cloquet; several nephews and nieces.
PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICESto be held in Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Chisholm, with the Rev. Steve Daigle of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chisholm, officiating. Interment follows in Chisholm cemetery.

VIOLET BIRD
Violet Bird, 75, of Hibbing died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in the Leisure Hills Health Care Center, Hibbing.
Born Nov. 12, 1926, in Keewatin, Minn., to Theodore and Ann Damjanovich, she married Walter Bird on Dec. 29, 1948, and then dedicated her life to raising her children and lovingly caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; a son, Robert; and a great-granddaughter.

She is survived by sons Ted (Mary) Bird and James Bird both of Kelly Lake, Minn., and Michael (Connie) Bird of Nashwauk; daughters Bonnie (Kermit) Klein of Waite Park, Minn., and Patricia Bird of Miami; a brother, George (Bev) Damjanovich of Keewatin; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, the Rev. Randy Williamson officiating. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery.

QUENTIN HARRY STEIN
Quentin Harry Stein, 81, of Cloquet died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Nopeming Nursing Home.
He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Kingston, Minn., the son of Harry and Selma (Wiiasnen) Stein. He married Esther Hedenquist on Sept. 20, 1939.

Quentin went to work in the Civilian Conservation Camps when he was 15 until the age of 17. He worked on a dairy farm in Esko for two years and, a carpenter by trade, he worked in construction for Capp Homes for more than 30 years, retiring in the early 1970s. He was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the 32nd infantry in the Philippines and Japan from 1944 to 1946.

He was a member of the former First Congregational Church and Bethany Covenant Church, Cloquet. Quentin's hobbies included hunting, fishing, helping others, carpentry, cooking and baking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John and Charles Stein; an infant son; and a grandson, Jeffrey Stein.

Quentin was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by his wife of 62 years, Esther of Cloquet; loving sons Duane (Pat) of Champlin, Minn., Dennis of Cold Springs, Minn., and Richard of Cloquet; his twin sister, Marian (Jim) Buchek of Minneapolis and sisters Louella Kivi, Barbara (Mel) Malkerelk, Edna Daniels, Connie (Russ) Johnson, all of Minneapolis, Peggy (Marshall) Harris of McGregor and Shirley (Edward) Olson of Wisconsin; a brother, Jack of Minneapolis; grandchildren Greg (Amy), Rebecca (John), Echo and Caitlin; great-grandchildren Evan, Caleb and Molly and many other relatives. The family wishes to offer their heartfelt thanks to the second floor east staff at the Nopeming Nursing Home for their wonderful loving care and support of Quentin and his family for the past year.

ROY RENGO
Roy R. Rengo, 78, of Lawler, Minn., died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Viewcrest Health Care Center, Duluth.
He was a Lawler resident most of his life and a self-employed farmer.

Survivors include a brother, Bill Rengo of Duluth; sisters Anne Nading of Duluth and Elizabeth Johnson of Los Gatos, Calif.
MEMORIAL SERVICE:2 p.m. Tuesday in Viewcrest Health Care Center. Inurnment in West Branch cemetery, rural Cromwell. Arrangements by Fred Olson Mortuary.

CLEMENS E. BAKKA
Clemens E. Bakka, 68, of Ogema, Minn., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Clemens Edward Bakka was born May 18, 1933, to Axel and Elma (Mikkanen) Bakka in rural Ogema, where he was raised and attended White Earth Elementary School. He graduated from Waubun High School in 1951 and served with the Army in Germany. On June 28, 1958, he married Norma Jean Cogger in Callaway, Minn. They lived in Aurora where he worked for Erie Mining Co. at Hoyt Lakes. He retired in 1988 and they returned to rural Ogema in 1999.

Mr. Bakka was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles and the Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed deer and goose hunting, golfing, bowling and being with family and friends.

Clemens is survived by his wife, Jean of Ogema; daughters Shelly (Dennis) Ceglar of Britt, Sharon (Tom) Schwandt of Forest Lake, Minn., Nancy (Wade) Gordon of Esko; and grandchildren Donna and Devin Ceglar.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. today in the David-Donehower Funeral Home, 904 Lake Ave., Detroit Lakes, Minn., (218) 847-4147. Friends and family may also call from noon until the 1 p.m. service Monday in The Church Of The Assumption in Callaway, the Rev. Ottis Yoder officiating. Interment in Aura Memorial cemetery in Sugar Bush Township, rural Ogema.

DELBERT "JUNIOR" SMOCK
Delbert "Junior" Smock, 72, of Hibbing died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in his home.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday in Range Funeral Home, Hibbing, and continuing Tuesday from 10 until the 11 a.m. service in Hibbing Open Door Ministries Church. Burial in Maple Hill cemetery.

NANCY JEAN PETERSEN-MENEFEE
Nancy Jean Petersen-Menefee, 45, of Squaw Lake died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Ed; a daughter, Natalie; a son, Nathan; her father, Orville Petersen; her mother, Dorothy Petersen; brothers Jerry (Ann) Petersen, Dan (Fran Wilson), Tim Petersen; a sister, Cindi Petersen; other relatives and friends.
MEMORIAL SERVICE:1 p.m. Thursday in Squaw Lake School in Squaw Lake. Interment by cremation. Arrangements by Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck, (218) 835-3300.
