PATRICK HANLON
Patrick Hanlon, 57, of Aitkin died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in Riverwood Health Care Center, Aitkin.
Visitation: 9 until the 11:30 a.m. service Saturday in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.

JOHN F. STRUCEL
John F. Strucel, 85, of Virginia died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 3, 1916, in Ely, to Peter and Katherine (Fortun) Strucel and attended Ely schools. John married Margaret Musich on Jan. 26, 1939, at St. Anthony's Church in Ely and was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for 12 years underground at the Pioneer Mine in Ely, moved to Virginia in 1955 and worked as a St. Louis County mine inspector for 27 years, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of the Pratt-Volden-Mickelson-Anderson American Legion Post 239, Kolstad DAV chapter 23 and Holy Spirit Catholic Church, all in Virginia. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to cook and was famous for his pasties.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Margie Niewoehner in 1975; his son, John J. Strucel in 1976; and sisters Mary Zgonc, Ann Tolyon and Katherine Winkler.

John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret; sisters-in-law, Caroline Musich and Angela Musich, both of Ely; and numerous nieces and nephews.
VISITATION with no reviewal from 10 until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass Friday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Rev. Father John O'Donnell as celebrant. Spring inurnment will be in Greenwood cemetery. Family services are provided by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Virginia.

KERMIT E. KADIN
Kermit E. Kadin, 68, of Floodwood, died Tuesday, December 4, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born February 24, 1933, in Elmer Township, Minn., to Enard and Lucinda (Turnboom) Kadin. He married Hazel Lowry on April 26, 1963, in South Dakota.
Kermit worked in highway construction for Coons Construction Company from 1955-1965 and for Johnson Brothers Construction from 1965-1975. After 1975, he was self-employed as a logger and grain-hauling trucker.

He was a member of the Floodwood VFW and Hope Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Enard and Lucy Kadin; a brother, Elvin Kadin and a daughter, Sherry Kay Kadin.

Kermit is survived by his wife, Hazel and granddaughters, Courtney and Stacee Freeman of Floodwood; a daughter, Teresa (Jess) Lambert and children, Tawni and Kirsti of Cloquet; a son, Scott (Angie) Condra and children, Lilly, Billy, & Sarah of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Annette Condra and Scottie Condra, Jr, both of Honolulu, HI; four brothers, Jerry (Maryann) Felknor of Proctor, Dale (Mary) Felknor and Clark (Karen) Felknor, both of Floodwood and Jay Kadin of Duluth; four sisters, Irma (Jack) Robison of Duluth, Mary Lou (Robert) Powers of Roswell, NM, Gayle (John) Suonvieri of Floodwood and Clarice (Jerry) Zauhar of Superior; mother-in-law, Bessie Murphy of Cromwell; brother-in-law, Larry (Karen) Murphy and family of Carlton and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

VISITATION will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Visitation will continue from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Saturday in Hope Lutheran Church, Floodwood. Interment will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Van Buren Township.

JOHN CHESTER "CHET" SCHULTZ
John C. Schultz, 86, of International Falls died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in the Minnesota Veterans Home, Silver Bay.
He was born May 25, 1915, in Carlton to George E. and Ella (Johnson) Schultz. He was raised in Carlton and graduated from Carlton High School. He was also an Eagle Scout. He was united in marriage to Roseanna Loisel on July 8, 1939, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cloquet. Chet owned and operated Community Market in Carlton from 1939-1941, and served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a Prudential Insurance agent for most of his life. Chet was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church in International Falls.

Chet was preceded in death by his parents; and sons Jon and Steven.

He is survived by his wife Roseanna; sons Terrance (Emilee) Schultz, David Schultz and Peter Schultz, all of International Falls; a brother, George (Norma) Schultz of Muncie, Ind.; a sister, Leone Raupach of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. memorial Mass Saturday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet, Father Kenton Sailstad officiating. Inurnment services will follow in New Calvary cemetery, Cloquet. Full military honors presented by the Cloquet Honor Guard. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.

FERN RUTH BERGREN
Fern Ruth Bergren, 86, of Two Harbors died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in Lake View Home.
She was born in Superior to Ansgar and Ruth (Borgen) Christiansen on May 2, 1915. She graduated from high school in Superior and attended Superior State Teachers College for a year. Later she graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Duluth. Fern married Arthur Bergren on July 6, 1939, in Superior. She worked as a staff nurse and later became director of nursing at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors until retiring in 1978.

Fern was a member of the United Church of Two Harbors. She was active with church, and loved her family and friends. Fern volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizens Council (AARP) and Lake View Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; and brother Allan Christiansen.

Fern is survived by her sons, Keith Bergren of Two Harbors, Stephen (Eileen) Bergren of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Richard (Karen) Bergren of Duluth; daughters Kay (James) Sheils of Two Harbors and Susan (Bruce) Anderson of Pardeeville, Wis.; a sister, Carol (Herb) Naegeli of Dunedin, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation: Noon until the 2 p.m. service Friday in United Church, Two Harbors. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

ELSIE E. VALO
Elsie E. Valo, 85, of Makinen died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, in the Arrowhead Senior Living Center, Virginia.
PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICES were held, as per Elsie's wishes in Range Funeral Home, Virginia. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery, Virginia.

FRANCIS W. "MICK" GOESSLING
Francis W. "Mick" Goessling, 83, formerly of Evanston, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in the Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton.
Mr. Goessling and his wife, Jeanne, retired to Evanston from New Jersey in 1983 and moved to Esko two years ago to live with their son Stephen and his family.

Mick was born in Chicago and was a graduate of Loyola Academy and Loyola University Chicago. He served in the Army 33rd Division Artillery from 1940 to 1944 in the Pacific. He had a long career in advertising and art direction in Chicago at Marshall Field and Co., Abbott Laboratories and US Gypsum, and for many years was advertising director for Silver Burdett, textbook publishers in New Jersey.

In 1950, Mr. Goessling married Jeanne Cleary, and the Goesslings lived in Wilmette, Highland Park and Winnetka, and moved to Morristown, N.J., in 1963, when he joined Silver Burdett Co. In 1983, the Goesslings moved to an active retirement in Evanston. Mr. Goessling worked for the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and later for Winnetka Printing. He also was a volunteer visitor at nursing homes. Always active in his parish, wherever he was, he sang in the choir at Sacred Heart Church, Winnetka, was a lector and president of the Parish Council at St. Joseph's in Mendham, N.J., and was a lector and member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Anthanasius in Evanston. He was also a member of the Caxton Club in Chicago.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Cleary Goessling; seven sons and two daughters, and their spouses and 10 grandchildren. They are Daniel and Deborah Goessling, and Sam, Joe and Tim of Wayland, Mass.; David and Amy Biggers Goessling of High Bridge, N.J.; Dennis and Kate Goessling Madson of Port Ludlow, Wash.; Mary Faith Goessling of Esko; Paul and Sybil Hatch Goessling, and Andy and Evelyn of Berkeley, Calif.; Robert and Elisabeth Perry Goessling, and Caleb and Emily of Cooksville, Wis.; Andrew and Alison Boardman Goessling of Long Valley, N.J.; Stephen and Maura Collins Goessling, and Raleigh and Parker of Esko; and Ted and Jacquelynn Cowdery Goessling and their son, Louis of Minneapolis. Also surviving is his sister, Emilee Goessling Szumski of Black River Falls, Wis.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Saturday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet. Early in January, there will be a memorial service in St. Athanasius Church, Evanston. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or to Alzheimer's Disease Research will be appreciated by the family. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

HERBERT OLAF JUNES
Herbert Olaf Junes, 78, of Grand Rapids died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
He was born Nov. 7, 1923, in Hillview, Minn., to Israel and Senia (Salomaki) Junes. He served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was united in marriage with Leona Niska in Menahga May 5, 1946. He lived in Bloomington for many years and had worked as a mechanic for Mitchell Boyer Lincoln Mercury for 10 years before working for the city of Bloomington as a mechanic for 26 years, retiring in 1986. He lived in Menahga from 1988 until he recently moved to Grand Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Edwin and Albert.

He is survived by his wife, Leona; daughters Pamela (Michael) Peterson of Wausau, Wis., Marcie New of Rosemount, Minn., Gretchen (Richard) Salmela of Grand Rapids; a son, George (Mary) of Minneapolis; sisters Eleanor Penman of Natrona Heights, Pa., Emma Anderson of Menahga; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Service 11 a.m. Friday in Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, Deer River. Burial in Lindenwood cemetery, Deer River.

Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

DONALD K. HARWOOD
Donald K. Harwood, 62, of Ocala, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in his residence.
He was born in Grand Rapids and was an Air Force veteran. He had worked as a coder and material handler at Blandin Paper Co.

Donald was a member of West Marion Moose Lodge 2356 of Ocala and American Legion Post 0080 of Grand Rapids.

He is survived by a brother, James Harwood of Deer River; sisters Beverly A. McNell of Romeoville, Ill., June Newton of Grand Rapids, Sharon Greiner of Cohasset and Vyone Blaine of Grand Rapids; and his companion, Donna M. Walters of Ocala.
MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held at a later date.

HEIDI SUE LINT
Heidi Sue Lint, 18, of Bovey died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident near Mora, Minn.
Her grandmother, Darlene "Dee" Lint was killed in the same accident.

Heidi is survived by her mother, Debra (Daniel) Lentz; her father, Brad (Janet) Lint; brother Jeff Lint; boyfriend Robert Daust Jr.; and maternal grandparents Pat and Wes Moe, and Ada Shelton.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Friday in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids and continues from noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday in Grand Rapids Alliance Church, 600 S.E. 17th Ave., Grand Rapids. Her funeral and a memorial service for her grandmother will be held together.
