George A. Anderson, 69, of Ray, Minn., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, in his home.
Survivors include his brother, Paul; a nephew, David Anderson; and nieces Kristin Anderson-Rick, Elizabeth Anderson-Martin and Tracy Anderson.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10 a.m. Thursday in Green-Larsen Memorial Chapel. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary Inc. of International Falls.

LINDSEY LEE KORPI
Lindsey Lee Korpi, infant child of Toni Everett and Colin Korpi, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, John and Loral Lee Everett and Elsie and Runo Korpi; her great-grandmother, Marion Helgeson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
SERVICE: 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Green-Larsen Memorial Chapel. Interment in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary.

GEORGE R. ROSEEN
George R. Roseen, 85, of Eveleth died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001.
Survivors include sons Thomas (Nancy) and Michael; daughters Jeanne Lau, Barbara (Thomas) Sabatino, Sharon Roseen and Lolly (Jeff) Sabin; a brother; a sister; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
SERVICE: 2 p.m. Friday in Helgeson Funeral Chapel, 121 Center, Roseau, Minn. Burial in Malung cemetery. Arrangements by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home.

ETHEL E. BOZICEVICH
Ethel E. Bozicevich, 95, of Eveleth died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, in Eveleth Health Services Park, Eveleth.
Survivors include her children, Earl (Audrey Evenson) Bozicevich, Lois Walden, James Bozicevich and John (Veronica) Bozicevich; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10:30 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in United in Christ Lutheran Church, Eveleth. Inurnment in Eveleth cemetery. Arrangements by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home.

KATHLEEN "KATHY" LASTOVICH MODICH
Kathleen "Kathy" Lastovich Modich, 52, of Independence, Kan., formerly of Hibbing, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, in St. John's Medical Center, Tulsa, Okla.
Kathy was born in Hibbing on June 20, 1949, to Rudy and Rose (Serra) Lastovich. She graduated from Hibbing High School in 1967, and was a member of one of the first classes to graduate from Hibbing Technical College's dental assistant program. She worked as a dental assistant for the Hibbing Dental Service for nine years. In 1978, she moved to Independence, where she was an assistant manager for B&B; Movie Theaters in Kansas.

She was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hibbing and was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Independence. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Henry "Hank"; sons Michael and Ryan Modich, both at home; her parents, Rudy and Rose Lastovich of Hibbing; a sister, Pam (Billy) Mancuso of Hibbing; her godparents, Cy and Mary Sajevic of Hibbing; many extended family members and friends on the Iron Range; and her beloved dogs, Misty and Katie.
Visitation: 2 until the 3 p.m. memorial service Friday in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, the Rev. Peter Muhich officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to her family. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.

WALTER "BUD" ALLEN SAUNDERS
Walter "Bud" Allen Saunders, 70, of Silver Bay passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital in Duluth.
He was born Oct. 12, 1930, in Brainerd to Chester and Eva Saunders. Bud earned Eagle Scout status from the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Korean War veteran. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a bachelor's degree. Bud married Susan Haskins on July 16, 1955. He lived in Silver Bay since 1955, working for Reserve Mining Co. for 31 years. He enjoyed singing barber shop harmony and was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue in 2000; and his sister, Connie Luehrs.

Bud is survived by daughters Kim S. (Kevin) Costley of Sartell, Minn., and Kelly S. (Brian) Tofte of Silver Bay; and grandchildren Brittney and Steven Costley, and Abby and Eric Tofte.
Visitation: 11 a.m. until the noon service Friday in Sychar Lutheran Church, Silver Bay, Pastor Paul Taintor officiating. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Johnson Mortuary.

LYLE G. UNGER
Lyle G. Unger, 74, formerly of Baudette, Minn., and Florence, Ariz., passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, in Fargo, N.D.
He was born in Calumet on March 21, 1927, to John and Mary Jane Unger. He married Alva Johnson on Oct. 15, 1949, in Coleraine. Lyle worked in Oliver Mining Co., before enlisting with the Marine Corps. He served 2 years in World War II in the South Pacific. He later became self-employed as the owner/operator of Lyles Beauty Shop in Grand Rapids.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Jane Unger; and brothers and sisters Glen, Rose, Max, Lee, Bill, Tom and Jim.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Alva; his children, Mary Lee (David) Peterson of Bemidji, Jim (Deb) Unger of Grand Rapids, Jo Anne (John) Mikulich of Bovey, Heidi Unger of Las Vegas and Bill Unger of Duluth; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Unger of Coleraine; a brother, John Unger of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICES will be held at a later date.

RONALD GENE KUBIS
Ronald G. Kubis, 62, of Cloquet died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, in his home after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 10, 1939, to Lawrence and Laverna (Hackstock) Kubis in Courtney, N.D. They moved to Saginaw, Minn., in 1950. He was united in marriage to Lucille B. Waldorf on Oct. 1, 1960, in Cloquet. Ron worked for Wood Conversion, Conwed and USG from 1957-2001. He was also a former owner of the Northstar Ballroom from 1977-84.

Ron loved fishing, camping, deer hunting and playing cards. He had a great love for sports. He played in basketball, football, baseball and track at Alborn High School. He loved playing miniature golf with his grandchildren. Ron watched Cloquet hockey, football and baseball for 40 years. Twenty years of that, his children played sports.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence "Doc" Kubis, in 1992; a brother, Donald, in 1987; and a grandnephew, Zachary Kubis, in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Waldorf) Kubis, of 41 years; sons Ronnie Kubis and special friend Sue Niemi of Shoreview, and Cory Kubis of Cloquet; daughters Carmen Daveau of Cloquet and Tammy (Rex) Rozel of Lansing, Mich.; grandchildren Michael, Brendan, Blane, Shane, Shannon, Kaleigh and Haleigh; Papa Ron's buddies, Derek and Jorden Klejeski; his mother, Laverna Kubis in the Carlton Nursing Home; brothers Art (Betty) Kubis, Cub (Pauline) Kubis, Ken (Pat) Kubis, Jer (Barb) Kubis and Robert "Chip" (Kathy) Kubis; sisters Charlene (Norman) Amborn, Norma Nichols and Lorraine "Tootsie" Gilbertson, all of Saginaw, Cloquet and California; his father-in-law, Frank Waldorf of Cloquet; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Sunday in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet with a wake service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Monday in Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Kenton Sailstad. Pallbearers will be his five brothers: Art, Cub, Ken, Jer, Chip Kubis and Sherman Kortie. Honorary pallbearer will be Curt Kubis "Ringbearer." Interment services will follow at New Calvary cemetery in Cloquet. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.

ANITA THERESA JOHNSON
Anita Theresa Johnson, 81, of Bemidji died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001.
Survivors include daughters Judy Blackmarr, Noreen (Butch) Holsclaw and Jean (Eli) Essa; sons Richard, Robert (Cindy) and Randy (Stacy) Johnson; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
SERVICE: 1 p.m. today in St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bena. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Bena. Arrangements by Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

WAYNE FRANK LAWLER
Wayne Frank Lawler, 45, of Gordon died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; a son, Ryan; a daughter, Amy; his mother, Wanda (Buck) Petersen; a brother, John (Donna); and sisters Mary Lou (Bernard) Bergman, Bonnie (Glen) Bethal, Donna (Al) Thayer and Lori (Dave) Edgren.
Visitation: 4 until the 5 p.m. service Monday in Brown Funeral Home, Solon Springs. Memorials preferred to American Heart Association.

ALPHONE "AL" P. COLE
Alphone "Al" P. Cole, 92, of Aitkin died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, in Riverwood Extended Care Center, Aitkin.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Monday in First Lutheran Church, Aitkin, the Rev. Lance E. Isaacson officiating. Graveside service at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Riverside cemetery, Moorhead. Arrangements by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.

Lyle G. Hoshal
Lyle G. Hoshal, 69, of rural Calumet died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in his home.
He was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Muskegon, Mich., to George H. and Charlotte (Wilk) Hoshal. He grew up and lived in the Calumet area since the age of two. Lyle and Ada Berends were married May 9, 1953, in Baltimore, Md. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, he was a member of Ducks Unlimited and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his sawmill. He worked for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Co. for 15 years, and he retired from School District 316 in 1996, where he had been a custodian.

His parents, George and Charlotte Hoshal; a grandson, Christopher Hoshal; and a brother, Earl Hoshal, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Ada of rural Calumet; sons Fred (Geraldine) Hoshal, Donald (Cindy) Hoshal and Roger Hoshal, all of Calumet; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers Glen Hoshal of Gilbert and Lloyd (Vivian) Hoshal of Calumet; a sister, Eunice Mars of Spring Lake, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Lyle's home, 20850 County Road 12, at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Arrangements by Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine.

Beatrice H. Halverson
Beatrice H. Halverson, 93, of International Falls died Sunday, July 22, 2001.
Survivors include sons Norman and Keith Halverson; and daughters Winnifred Jackson, Jean Isensee, Grace Averill and Joyce Dobie.
Visitation: 2-6 p.m. today in Green-Larsen Mortuary. Service at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Assembly of God. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary Inc., International Falls.
