Knute Heng, 100
Died: Tuesday, July 05, 2005, in Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN.
Knute Heng, age 100, formerly of Minneapolis, MN, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN.

Knute was born on November 13, 1904 to Ole and Rolfsina Heng in Stavamger, Norway where he attended school up to the eighth grade.

In 1922 he came to the United States and traveled to Minneapolis where he stayed with an aunt. As time went by, he did farm work in southern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. He also worked in a lumber camp in northern Wisconsin as well as an automobile plant in Flint, Michigan. Eventually, he settled down in Minneapolis and married Olga Johanson on August 19, 1933. He began working at Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and worked his way up from a fireman in the power plant, to a second class engineer, to a first class engineer and finally to the chief engineer in the power plant of the hospital. Knute retired from the hospital in 1969.

During his retirement, he built a cabin near Maple Lake, Minnesota where Olga and he entertained friends and relatives. Olga and he also delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years to folks, some of whom, were younger than they. They also visited their children in Canada and the Midwest.

Knute was at one time a member of the Norwegian Memorial Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and also attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church where his children had been members. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olga and is survived by one son, Rolf (Evangeline) Heng, Rollag, MN; and one daughter, Nancy (Glen) Adams, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Cynthia Trautman, 45
Died: Tuesday, May 17, 2005, in her home in Kenosha, WI.
Cynthia Roebuck was born on July 16, 1959, to Robert and Gloria (Chartier) Roebuck in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. Her family traveled with the U.S. Air Force and she grew up in West Fargo, Jamestown, Grand Forks, and Fargo, ND, where she graduated from Fargo North High School in 1977. She moved to Ephrata, WA, where she lived until 1982 when she moved to Tempe, AZ. In 1992, she moved to Antioch, IL, and for the past year and one half, she had lived in Kenosha, WI.
Cynthia is survived by her son, Ryan (Sara) Trautman, Ephrata, WA; daughter, Melissa Trautman, Issaquah, WA; her mother, Gloria Roebuck, Chandler, AZ; Grandparents, Leslie and Louise Loberg, West Fargo, ND; step-father, Donald Peterson, Wausau, WI; brother, Robert (Susan) Roebuck, Jr.; sisters Sheila (David) Welch, Antioch, IL, and Ava (Ron) Nagunst, Chandler, AZ; granddaughter MacKenzie Trautman, Ephrata, WA; long-time companion Daniel Graham, Kenosha, WI; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert W. Roebuck, in 1966.

Luell E. "Bud" Lilly, 67
Died: Sunday, November 27, 2005, in Thunderbird Banner Hospital, Phoenix, AZ.
Luell "Bud" Edward Lilly, 67, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on November 27, 2005 in Thunderbird Banner Hospital, Phoenix, AZ.

Bud was born on June 8, 1938 to Earl and Emma (Legler) Lilly in Storm Lake, IA. He grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Slayton High School in 1956. He married Bonita Swanson in 1967. Bud was employed by Honeywell in Minneapolis and in Phoenix until his retirement in 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Bonita, Phoenix, AZ, three children, Edward (Becky) Lilly, Peoria, AZ, Steven (Dawn) Lilly, Rogers, MN and Jean (Ronald) Lemier, Chaska, MN; four grandchildren, Michael Lemire, Nicole Lilly, Taylor Lilly and Amie Lilly; and one sister, Marilyn Gawreluk, Slayton, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gordon Thorsen, 84
Died: Wednesday, September 14, 2005, in his home in Woodbury, MN under the care of Hospice.
Gordon Jerome Thorsen age 84 of Woodbury, MN, formerly of Orfordville, WI, Hoyt Lakes and Ulen, MN passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 14, 2005.

Gordon was born April 21, 1921 in Atlanta Township in Becker County, MN. He farmed in Ulen, Mn from 1939, married Joan Fevig in 1951. The family moved to Hoyt Lakes, MN where he worked for Erie Mining Company from 1957 until he retired in 1983. He moved to Orfordville, WI in 1986 where he resided with his companion Norman. When his health declined, he returned to MN in 2001 to live with his daughters who cared for him until his death.

Gordon was very devoted to his family. He loved to dance, play cards, call bingo and socialize with family and friends. He was an avid story teller and loved to laugh.
In his retirement he loved to help others as a volunteer to drive, shop, meals on wheels, and anything else asked of him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his companion Norman Olson; sister Pauline Burkel; children, Jerome (Teri), Moorhead, Verlayne (Alton) Bennett, Woodbury, MN, Craig Torrence, CA, Peter (Michele) Hoyt Lakes, MN, Nels, Las Vegas, NV, Ruth Thuringer, Hoyt Lakes, MN, Jens (Melinda) Shakopee, MN; stepson, Steven Boutang; sister-in-law, Mabel Thorsen; and 16 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by former spouse Joan Boutang, parents, Peter and Anna Thorsen, sisters Beatrice Thorsen and Lillian Milton, twin brothers Peter and Andrew, and brothers Knute & Martin.

William Fisher, 90
Died: Monday, August 01, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
William Fisher was born January 4, 1915 in rural central North Dakota. He lived at Grafton, North Dakota until the 1980's. In his later years he lived in rural Hawley, Minnesota. He was always a pleasure to be around, and was very polite and caring. God blessed William with a sense of humor that will not be forgotten. William attended Hawley Alliance Church.

Myron J. Brown, 92

Myron J. Brown, 92, of Moorhead, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in Moorhead Health Care Center, Moorhead, MN.

Myron was born on November 10, 1912 to Jerome and Lillian (Teel) Brown in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. On June 23, 1933 Myron married Catherine Benkouski in St. Paul, MN. In September of 1942, Myron and Catherine moved to Moorhead where they have made their home since. Myron was a Civil Engineer with the Burlington Northern Railroad for 33 years until his retirement on August 1st, 1974. He was an avid fisherman and hunter until his health no longer allowed him to do so at the age of 87, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Catherine preceded him in death on March 14, 1975.

He is survived by three sons, Neil (Dorothy) Brown, Las Vegas, NV, Lowell (Beverly) Brown, Moorhead, MN and Dennis Brown, Barnesville, MN; one daughter, Lois Hickman, Dilworth, MN, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; his parents; two sisters, LaDonna Eckert and Lorraine Brown; and one grand-daughter, Tina Brown.

Arthur T. "Art" Sater, 58
Died: Wednesday, July 06, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Arthur "Art" T. Sater, 58, of Moorhead, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Art was born on April 29, 1947 to Arthur and Tina (Hovi) Sater in Fargo, ND. At a young age, Art and his family moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Washington Senior High School in 1965. Art attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, graduating with a business administration degree in 1969. Soon after he graduated from Augustana, Art joined the United States Army. He served his country overseas in Hawaii for two years. Art was honorably discharged in October of 1971.

On February 19, 1972, Art married the love of his life, Janet (Ellwein), together they spent 33 wonderful years. Art was a hard worker, who worked as a traveling accounting representative for over 30 years for ADM-Benson Quinn. Art was an avid golfer, loved riding his Harley, and with his dry sense of humor, made many friends. Last February Art and Jan took their last trip together to South Africa to visit a good friend. Art will be missed dearly by his many friends and family.

Art is survived by his mother, Tina (Hovi) Sater, Edina, MN; his wife, Jan (Ellwein) Sater, Moorhead, MN; one daughter, Nicole (Michael) Anderson, Moorhead, MN; a special grand-daughter, Megan Engelstad, Moorhead, MN; one brother, Steve Sater, Chester, SD; one sister, Judy (Len) Haseman, Eagan, MN and many nieces and nephews.

Art is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Sater and one brother, David Sater.

Dr. Donald E. Bentley, 85
Died: Saturday, November 05, 2005, in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen, MN.
Dr. Donald E. Bentley was born on June 21, 1920, in Twin Valley, MN, to Helmer and Oline (Waller) Bentley. Don was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. He was the youngest of four children and received his education in the Twin Valley school system.

Don graduated from high school in 1938 and then went on to Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1942 with a triple major in Economics, History and Business. In the fall of 1942, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the Medical Administrative Corps and later assigned to the headquarters section, Middle Pacific Area. He was an administrative assistant to the Chief Dental Surgeon.

In 1946, Don was discharged from the army and worked for Lutheran Brotherhood and Kraft Foods. He married Dorothy Hoyne of McIntosh, MN, in June 1948. In 1949, Don enrolled in the University of North Dakota to complete science classes to qualify him for application to the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Don graduated from the U of M with a DDS degree in 1954. Later that year, the Bentley family moved to Hawley, MN, where Don set up his dental practice. In 1977, son Geoff joined his father in the dental practice where he continues today.

Don was a member of Hawley City Council for ten years and served as mayor in the early 70's. He was on the board of the First National Bank, McIntosh, for over 30 years.

Don held several positions in the Minnesota Dental Association and the American Dental Association. He reached his ultimate goal in 1982 when he was elected President of the American Dental Association.

Don received the Outstanding Alumni Award from Concordia College in 1980. He spent three years as the first Concordia alumnus to serve as National Chairman of the C400 Club. Don was president of the Century Club of the University of MN Dental School. He received the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award from the University of MN Board of Regents in 1985.

Don was an active member of the Republican Party and was a delegate to many of the county, district and state conventions. He served as Governor Harold LeVander's appointed spokeman for dentistry on the Comprehensive Health Planning Council for the state of Minnesota.

Don and Dorothy wintered on Marco Island, Florida. They were associate members of Marco Lutheran Church.

Singing was a life long passion for Don. He was a soloist and a member of choirs and quartets for over 70 years.

One of Don's greatest joys was spending time with his family. He enjoyed being at their lake home on Little Pine Lake near Perham. Don loved to troll around in the boat for hours fishing for walleyes. Grandpa Don cherished the special times with his grandchildren. He was so proud of all of them and always took time to listen to and talk with them.

Besides his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; Don is survived by one son, Dr. Geoffrey (Pamela), Hawley, MN; three daughters, Linda (Rev. David) Rossow, Byron, MN, Judith (Rev. Burton) Parry, York, PA, and Paula (Richard) Ness, Apple Valley, MN; 12 grandchildren: Erik (fiancee Ingrid), Sarah, and Reid Bentley; Jennifer, Hope, and Adam Rossow; Megan, Gavin, and Brittany Romer; Emily, Rachel and Mitchell Ness.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

The family wishes memorials be given to Hawley Lutheran Church, Concordia College, Hospice of the Red River Valley and the National Parkinson's Foundation.

Ola P. "Doc" Wang, 81
Died: Wednesday, June 22, 2005, in his home north of Hawley, MN.
Ola "Doc" Wang was born March 20, 1924 at Soldier, Iowa, to Peter and Ragna (Baker) Wang. He lived in Soldier, Iowa until moving to Kingsley, Iowa in 1934, where he graduated from high school. Ola moved with his parents to Glyndon, Minnesota in 1946. Ola married Adeline Fuchs on July 18, 1947 at Moorhead, Minnesota. Following their marriage they lived at various places until moving to rural Hawley in 1951.

He was a member of Lysne Lutheran Church, and also a former member of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed football, basketball, track and softball, fishing, hunting, gardening, farming, and spending time with his family, especially all his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ellen Rarick, and one infant brother, Robert.

He is survived by his wife, Adeline Wang, Hawley, MN; five sons, Gary (Marie) Wang, Hawley, MN, Lyle (Julie) Wang, Hawley, MN, Roger (Kathy) Wang, Hawley, MN, Kenneth (Joan) Wang, Hawley, MN, and Russell Wang, Ulen, MN; one daughter, Marlys (Robert) Christiansen, Menahga, MN; four brothers, Melvin (Nina) Wang, Greenbush, MN, Richard (Mavis) Wang, Glyndon, MN, Peter (Marlys) Wang, Jr., Devils Lake, ND, and Ronald (Doreen) Wang, Glyndon; two sisters, Evonne (Don) Carlson, Dodge Center, MN, and Marlene Mikkelsen, Fargo, ND; twenty-one grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
