Edwin G. "Eddie" Savre, 97, Moorhead, MN, died on Saturday, February 11, 2006, in Moorhead Health Care Center, Moorhead, MN.

Eddie was born on April 18, 1908, near Lisbon, ND, to Erick and Ella (Albertson) Savre. He grew up and attended school in Lisbon, graduating from Lisbon High School, and then attended NDAC in Fargo, ND. Eddie owned and operated Eddy's Coffee Shop in downtown Moorhead for forty years. He married Jessie Pierce on September 7, 1938, and they made their home in Moorhead, MN, for all of their sixty-six years of married life. Jessie died on December 30, 2004. Eddie had been the site manager of the Moorhead Senior Nutrition program. He was a Jolly Old Timer and served at many pancake feeds. He was a avid sports fan for many years, was the director and treasurer of the F-M Merchants baseball clubs and one of the prime backers of the Moorhead Chix Baseball team. In 1958 he was awarded the Minnesota Sports Champion Award and was later nominated for the Clay County Outstanding Citizen Award. U.S. Representative Stangeland chose him to participate in the congressional senior citizen intern program in Washington, D.C.

Eddie is survived by three sons, John (Diane), Roseville, MN, Chuck (Beth Anne), Long Beach, CA, and Joel, Moorhead, MN; three daughters, Sharon (Gary) Reynolds, Billings, MT, Joyce (Jim Hutt) Savre, Menlo Park, CA; and Judy (Walt Morici) Savre, Longmont, CO; one sister, Clara Alexander, Lisbon, ND; fourteen grandchildren, Paul Reynolds, Kristin Beecher, Laurie, Stephen and Scott Savre, Jacob and Jessie Hutt, Edward and Jennifer Savre, Jason, Brian and Heidi Savre, Jeric and Jessie Nordhaugen and four great-grandchildren, Addison and Truman Reynolds, Brandon Savre and Joseph Savre. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jessie; and two sisters, Selma Savre and Gina Melby; three brothers, Kenneth, Alvin and Ernest.

Lawrence F. Arndt, 76
Died: Tuesday, November 29, 2005, in his home in Felton, MN.
Lawrence was born on March 22, 1930 at Hubbard Saskatchewan, Canada to Fredrick and Gisella (Langenburger) Arndt and passed away at his home on November 29, 2005. He attended school in Canada and moved with the family to Michigan in 1947. In 1949 they moved to Felton, Minnesota. He farmed with his dad and also worked at Keifer Chevrolet for many years. After his parents death he continued to live and work on the family farm.

Lawrence enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends and neighbors.

He had many interests and was very active in the community. He will be greatly missed by many.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Donald Lithgow. He is survived by his siblings; James (Patricia) Arndt, Park Rapids, MN, Lorraine (John) Sattazahn, Ononadgo, MI, Gloria Lithgow, Minneapolis, MN, Grace (Ronald) Sundrud, Napa, CA, Doris (Patrick) Maloney, Moorhead, MN and Orma (Daryle) Wasfaret, Crossville, TN and many nieces and nephews.

Mark Victor Larson, 47
Died: Sunday, September 04, 2005, in Fridley, MN.
Mark Victor Larson was born August 1, 1958 in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Victor and Vera (Hanson) Larson of Hawley, Minnesota. Mark graduated from Hawley High School in 1977. He worked different jobs in the area until May 1987 when he graduated from Moorhead Technical School in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning. He was presently employed at Marsh Heating and Air Conditioning in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. On August 12, 1982 Mark was blessed with a daughter, Lynsey Marie. Mark enjoyed fixing up older homes, camping and spending time with his family.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Vera, two sisters, Nancy Larson and Jean Simmons.

He is survived by a daughter, Lynsey (Aldo) Escarcega, and his pride and joy, granddaughter, Alexie (Mark nickname, "Scally wags) Escarcega, Brooklyn Park, MN; two sisters, LaVaye Tollefson, Glyndon, MN, and Dianne (Steve) Mounce, Hawley, MN; and loved by all his nieces and nephews.

Mara Grace Ulven, One Month Old
Died: Friday, May 05, 2006, in University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital, Minnepolis, MN.
Our dear daughter, Mara Grace Ulven, came into our lives on April 6, 2006, and left far too soon on May 5, 2006 after complications related to a diagnosis of hypoplastic left heart syndrome. She was baptized on April 11, 2006. She has changed our lives forever and will never be forgotten.

Mara Grace is survived by her parents, Jon and Shellie Ulven, Fargo, ND; her grandparents, Wayne and Nancy Ulven, Walcott, ND, Doris Simonson, Ada, MN, Dean (Julie) Simonson, Maple Grove, MN; great-grandma, Crystal Jensen, Wahpeton, ND; aunts and uncles, Sarah (Jared) Myers, Fargo, ND, Troy (Ellen) Simonson, Minnetrista, MN, Chad (Kati) Ulven, Fargo, ND; cousins, Nathan and Cole Myers, Fargo, ND and Blake Simonson, Minnetrista, MN.

Lois G. Mallick, 75
Died: Saturday, August 06, 2005, in her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, Moorhead, MN.
Lois Mallick died August 6, 2005 in Moorhead after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ray and Charles Cunningham and sister Eunice Moore.

Lois Cunningham Mallick was born on March 25, 1930 in Brocket, ND to Guy and Letha (Flynn) Cunningham. She attended the Neubre Township school and graduated from Brocket High School in 1946.

Lois attended North Dakota State University, graduating in 1953 with a degree in Home Economics. She met her future husband, George Mallick, at NDSU and married him in 1951.

Her flair and style led her to a career in interior design, starting with teaching design in the Moorhead Continuing Education system and leading to a position teaching at the College of Home Economics at North Dakota State University. Lois ran her own interior design firm, Lois Mallick Interiors, from 1977 to 2004. She enjoyed bringing together fine fabrics, woods, color and other natural elements to create beautiful living spaces for her clients.

Lois is survived by her husband George; sons Michael (Rita) Mallick, Seattle, WA, Kim (Dorothy) Mallick, Seattle, WA, Terry (Debbie) Mallick, Moorhead, MN; daughters Kelly (Chick) Lindsay, Menomonie, WI; and Kristy (Jim) Lynch, Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lois was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, PEO, the Fine Arts Club, and numerous other community organizations. She had a great enjoyment of the arts, loved traveling, reading, skiing, sewing and good food. She leaves behind many loving friends and her quick wit, style, dignity and thirst for new adventures will be greatly missed. Memorials preferred to Presentation Prayer Center, Fargo.

Dorothy Krabbenhoft Johnston, 87

Dorothy Krabbenhoft Johnston, 87, Moorhead, MN, died on Thursday, July 14, 2005, in her home in Moorhead.

Dorothy Krabbenhoft was born on November 4, 1917, in Sabin, MN, to Alfred and Ella (Piepkorn) Krabbenhoft. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. She grew up and attended school in Page, ND, and Glyndon, MN, graduating from Glyndon High School in 1925. She married Leonard F. Krabbenhoft on November 15, 1939, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, MN, and they lived at Glyndon, MN, where they farmed. He died on January 29, 1975. Dorothy married John F. Johnston on May 1, 1981, and they lived at Glyndon. He died on September 13, 1991. She moved into Moorhead in 1992. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, Homemaker's Club, and the Glyndon Lioness. Many will remember her for her years of making wedding cakes.

Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Kilfoyl, Fargo, ND, Diane (Don) Kilfoyl, Fargo, ND, and Susan Krabbenhoft, Shoreview, MN; one son, Lance Krabbenhoft, Fargo, ND; one sister, Lillian Johnson, Hickson, ND; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two sisters, Margaret Sauer and Lois Krabbenhoft; and a brother, Lester Krabbenhoft.

Rudolph A. Softing, 99
Died: Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in Viking Manor Nusing Home, Ulen, MN.
Rudolph A. Softing, 99, of Hawley, Minnesota, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 under hospice care, at the Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen, Minnesota.

Rudolph was born November 2, 1905, at Hawley, Minnesota, to Anton and Barbro (Huseby) Softing. They lived on a farm in Parke Township in Clay County, Minnesota. He attended country school at Clay County District #11. Rudolph farmed with his father on the family farm. Rudolph was married to Anita Nelson on October 21, 1933, near Rollag, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they farmed in Parke Township. They moved to Hawley in 1990. Anita died September 20, 1999.

Rudolph was a life long member of Grong Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Western Minnesota Stream Threshers Reunion, a 4-H leader and he was on the school board for District #109. Rudolph always had a smile.

Rudolph was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Davis, three half brothers, one half sister, eight brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Scott Tobolt.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbro Olson, Moorhead, MN, and Mary (John) Tobolt, Moorhead, MN; one brother, Irving Softing, Hawley, MN; a sister-in-law, Nevada Softing, Hawley, MN; six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Allen Wastvedt, 77
Died: Friday, May 06, 2005
Allen Wastvedt was born on March 12, 1928 at Hawley, Minnesota to George and Hilda (Amundsgaard) Wastvedt. He grew up in Hawley graduating from High School in 1946. Allen was united in marriage to Phyllis Rustad on December 22, 1950 at Seatle, Washington. Allen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military discharge they lived in Hawley, MN where he was employed at the State Bank. They later moved to Fargo, ND where Allen was employed with Olaf Anderson Construction Co. retiring in 1993. He was very involved in genealogy studies and spending time with his family.

Allen is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Fargo, ND. Son: Ross (Sonja) Wastvedt of New Wilmington, PA, Daughter: Sue (Glen) Wickland, Watertown, SD, Brother: John (Laurene) Wastvedt, Minnetonka, MN and 6 grandchildren.

Violet Z. Fleck, 79
Died: Wednesday, December 14, 2005, in her home in Moorhead, MN.
Violet Fleck, 79, Moorhead, MN was found dead in her home, December 14, 2005.

Violet Hill was born November 4, 1926 in Saaunazon Saskatchewan, Canada to Alfred and Ida (Jaakola) Hill. She grew up in the New York Mills, MN area. Violet married Roy R. Fleck on August 23, 1952 at Dalton, MN. They lived in Fergus Falls, Minneapolis, Perham and Barnesville, MN. In 1991 they moved to Glyndon. Roy died on August 13, 1997. Violet moved to Moorhead in 1999. Violet loved playing bingo. She was a kid at heart, full of laughs and fun and she loved making others laugh.

Violet is survived by two sons; Daryl Fleck, Moorhead, MN, Dale (Tammy) Fleck, Hutchinson, MN; one daughter, Denise (Larry) Doyle, Orr, ND; one brother, Melvin (Sharon) Hill, Fridley, MN; and three sisters, Helen O'Brien, St. Louis Park, MN, Millie (Arnold) Zavodil, Glenwood, MN, and Shirley (Bill) Stubblefield, Yuba City, CA; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mary Erickson, 89
Died: Saturday, March 11, 2006, in Sunnyside Nursing Home, Lake Park, MN.
Mary was born January 1, 1917 at her home farm south of Lake Park, to Carl and Selma (Bengtson) Bjerke. She attended rural school near Lake Park. She married Melvin Erickson November 12, 1938 at Lake Park. Following their marriage they farmed until the early 1950's when they moved to Lake Park. Mary was employed at the lefse factory and Fashion Cleaners in Lake Park. She was employed at American Crystal Sugar Company in Moorhead until her retirement. Melvin died October 8, 1981. She lived in Lake Park until 1991 when she moved to Moorhead. In December 2005 she moved to Sunnyside Care Center, near Lake Park.

Mary was an active member of Lake Park Lutheran Church and the Royal Neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, and one son-in-law.

She is survived by two daughters, Patsy Fuchs, Glyndon, MN, and Carol (Lowell) Ness, Lake Park, MN; twin sister, Margaret (Ernest) Anderson, Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Rose E. Johnson, 98
Died: Thursday, November 03, 2005, in The Evergreens of Moorhead, MN.
She made the world a better place by practicing the art of reaching out to others and by giving from the heart.

Rose E. Johnson was born March 22, 1907 near Stanton, ND. She grew up and attended rural grade school near there. She attended High School in Hazen, ND, and college in Dickinson, ND, and Moorhead, MN. Rose married George L. Johnson on June 3, 1929. They lived on a farm near Hazen until they moved to Minnesota in 1938. She taught school in North Dakota and Minnesota for 42 years.

When she retired from teaching in 1973 she did volunteer work at St. Ansgar Hospital and Heartland Hospital until 1996. She filed and made toys for the children. George died in 1968 and she remained on the farm. Rose died on November 3, 2005, in The Evergreens of Moorhead, at the age of 98.

She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Iglehart, Garrison, ND; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her unofficial children, Loren and Londa Ingebretsen, Felton, MN, and grandchildren Carla Ingebretsen, Dunlap, IA, and Chris (Becky) Ingebretsen, and their daughter, Grace Rose, Clarkfield, MN.
