Paul Matthew Stenerson, 43
Died: March 20, 2004, in St. Mary's Hospital - Walla Walla, WA
Paul Matthew Stenerson was born April 16, 1960, in Fargo, ND, to James and Christine (Larson) Stenerson. He grew up in Moorhead and was active in scouting, earning the rank of Eagle. He enjoyed water skiing, music, and acting.

He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1978 and from Brown Institute, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, in 1979. He worked as a radio announcer/disc jockey at stations in Florida and Minnesota.

At the age of 22 he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and struggled with that condition the rest of his life. He attended college in Florida, at NDSU in Fargo, ND, and at Minot State Unversity in Minot, ND. In 1996 he moved to Portland, OR. From there he lived in several cities in the state of Washington. He was diagnosed with cancer in December, 2003, and lost his life after a short illness. He died at St. Mary's Hospital, Walla Walla, WA, on March 20, 2004.

He is survived by his parents, Jim and Chris Stenerson, 3 brothers, Scott (Suzanne), West Fargo, ND, Chad, Scottsdale, AZ., David (Lana), Danville, KY and 3 nephews, Zachary, Nicholas, and Garrit. He was preceded in death by one brother, Mark, infant twin sisters, and grandparents.

Violet A. Peterson, 91
Died: Friday, August 6, 2004, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Violet Peterson, 91, of Hawley, MN, died Friday, August 06, 2004 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.

Violet was born on September 21, 1912, to Peter and Augusta Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Hawley, graduating from Hawley High School in 1931. On June 17, 1945 she married Philip Peterson. They worked at the Peterson Brothers Department Store in Hawley until their retirement in 1968. Violet was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son; Verne (Lori) Peterson, Frazee, MN, and 5 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Philip Peterson, 1 son; Donald Peterson, five brothers; Elmer, Frank, Carl, Harold, and Clifford Nelson, and one sister; Ellen Larson.

Mamie C. Peterson, 87

Mamie C. Peterson, 87, of Hitterdal, Minnesota, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Sunnyside Nursing Home, Lake Park, Minnesota.

Mamie Clara Grefsrud was born March 8, 1917 at Hawley, Minnesota to Gustav and Martina (Bratlien) Grefsrud. She attended country school in Parke Township, Clay County, Minnesota. Mamie was married to Ernest Peterson at the Hawley Parsonage on November 11, 1937. Following their marriage they farmed in Highland Grove Township, near Hitterdal, Minnesota. In 1968 they moved into Hitterdal. Ernest died August 25, 1980. In February of 2000 she moved to Sunnyside Nursing Home, rural Lake Park, Minnesota, where she has since resided.

She is survived by three sons, Morris Peterson, Hitterdal, MN, LeRoy (Ardie) Peterson, Hitterdal, MN, and Darrel Peterson, Lake Park, MN; five daughters, Eunice Fitzpatrick, Freemont, MI, Beverly (Lee) Peterson, Tower, MN, Sharon (Julian) Rick, Lake Park, MN, Beatrice (Tim) Utke, Lander, WY, Sandra (Keith) Krueger, Rhinelander, WI; five brothers, Raymond (Joann) Grefsrud, Hawley, MN, Norris (Muriel) Grefsrud, Hawley, MN, Vernon (Joann) Grefsrud, Wisconsin, Earl (Priscilla) Grefsrud, Minneapolis, MN, Ardean (Adele) Peterson, Cascade, ID; six sisters, Myrtle Olson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Thelma Peterson, Lake Park, MN, Ardell (Robert) Nelson, Helena, MT, Glenda (David) Bengtson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Lorraine Grefsrud, Hawley, MN, Wanda (Carl) Erickson, Hawley, MN; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Myrtle "Ode" Askelson, 95
Died: Saturday, November 27, 2004, in Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN.
Myrtle Ode Askelson, 95, passed away at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, Minnesota on Saturday, November 27, 2004.

Myrtle was born April 6, 1909 to Thomas and Clara (Thrope) Kohler, in Audubon, Minnesota. After her schooling she worked at home and for other extended families. She married Eivind W. Ode on March 30, 1933. They farmed at Audubon and Lake Park, Minnesota. On January 3, 1965, Eivind passed away. She moved to Detroit Lakes and worked at Blandings Department Store for a number of years. On July 8, 1978 she was united in marriage to Henry Askelson and made her home at Felton, Minnesota, returning to Lake Park when Henry passed away on June 2, 1992.

She was a homemaker, loved to bake and was a faithful and life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Audubon, Minnesota. She was the oldest of her family of eight and all others precede her in death. She had been a resident of Sunnyside Care Center since June of 2003.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her two husbands, brothers, Julian, Delbert, Alan and Leonard, and sisters, Winnifred Friese, Frances Larson Bakken, and Charlotte Gallagher, and one great granddaughter, Gretchen Nelson.

Myrtle was a dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

She is survived by three children: LaVonne (Donald) Askelson, Lake Park, MN, Sharon (Donald) Kvilvang, Hibbing, MN, and Eldred (Becky) Ode, Lake Park, MN; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren; step-son, Clair (Sharon) Askelson, Felton, MN, five step-grandchildren, eleven step great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Viola Kohler and Charlotte Kohler of Detroit Lake, MN, and Leila Ode, Phoenix, AZ; brother-in-law, James Gallagher, Lansing, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Sunnyside Care Center for their love and care of mother, and a special thanks to her nurse granddaughter, Julie, who was her guardian angel the last eighteen months.

Dolores L. Riste, 78

Dolores L. Riste was born on November 6, 1926 to Lars and Bella (Nygaard) Stundahl in Flom, MN. She grew up and attended school in Flom, MN. On February 15, 1947, she married Kenneth Riste. Dolores worked as a waitress the majority of her working years.

She is survived by two sons, Alan, Fargo, ND, and Kevin (Becci), Laurel, MT; three daughters, Diane (George) Hennen, Moorhead, MN, Marcia (Dan) Anderson, Colorado Springs, CO, and Marlene (Rick) Goble, Brainerd, MN; two sisters, Bernice Forsell, Twin Valley, MN, and Minerva (Donald) Ford, Twin Valley, eleven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Riste, one daughter, Tammy (Rick) Opp, one brother, Elster Stundahl, and one sister, Lillian Low.

Steven R. Jetvig, 43
Died: Thursday, April 22, 2004, in his home.
Steve R. Jetvig was born September 13, 1960 at Detroit Lakes, Minn. to Oris and Minnie (Luthi) Jetvig. He grew up near Hawley and graduated from Hawley High School. Since his graduation, he has farmed near Hawley. Steve was united in marriage to Stacy Hendricks on December 17, 1994 at Lake Park, Minn. Steve loved farming, watching his children in their sporting events, going to the lakes, golfing and snowmobiling.

Steve died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at his home at the age of 43.

He is survived by his wife, Stacy, Hawley, Minn; son, Michael Jetvig; stepson, John Jacobson; daughters, Michelle Jetvig, Angie Jetvig; brothers, Eugene (Ann) Jetvig and Loren (Pixie) Jetvig; parents, Oris and Minnie Jetvig, all of Hawley, Minn. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Vivian L. Wiegert, 90
Died: Monday, March 14, 2005, in Sunnyside Nursing Home, Lake Park, MN.
Vivian Wiegert, 90, of Lake Park, Minnesota, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park.

Vivian Hill was born August 31, 1914 to Alfred and Helma Hill at the family farm in Alvarado, Minnesota. She was the youngest of six children. Vivian married Harold Wiegert on February 24, 1940. They spent the first five years of their marriage in Minneapolis where the first two of their three daughters were born, Jane and Mary. After the war they moved to Long Beach, California where their third daughter, Linda, was born. Vivian was employed by Sears for twenty five years, transferring around the country from store to store when her husband was transferred. After Harold died in 1993, Vivian continued to spend her summers at her farm in Lake Park and wintered with her daughters in the West.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, a sister Adeline (Arvid) Olson, and four brothers, Lloyd, Kenneth, Maurice and Arden.

She is survived by three daughters, Jane (Eric) Sacher, Steamboat Springs, CO, Mary (Larry) Miller, Denver, CO, and Linda (Steven) Clagett, Long Beach, CA; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Jewel M. Lerberg, 94

Jewel M. Lerberg, 94, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, died peacefully on Sunday, May 23, 2004, in the nursing home.

Jewel M. Vongsness was born on March 30, 1910, in Fillmore, ND, the only child of Ole and Violetta (Bedford) Vongsness. She grew up there, graduating from High School in Langdon, ND. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead and Interstate Business College in Fargo. She worked at Dakota Clinic in Fargo, ND, from 1934 until 1941. Jewel married Albert E. Lerberg Jr. on August 11, 1935, in Fillmore, ND, and they made their home in Moorhead, at 1114 4th Avenue south. She was the periodical librarian at Concordia College from 1961 until 1972. Jewel was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, where she was faithfully involved in Soup & Talk. Jewel was known for her devotion to Christ, her husband, children, grand & great-grandchildren and many friends. In addition, she opened her home to all, with generous hospitality and love.

Jewel is survived by two sons, Albert (Danita) Lerberg, Fargo, ND, and David (Carol) Lerberg, Pittsburgh, PA; two daughters, Joyce Locken (Richard Knutson), Oakes, ND, and Jane Erie, West Simsbury, CT; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Cowden, Mesa, AZ.

Andrew M. Suedel, 81
Died: Sunday, May 23, 2005, in Meritcare Palliative Care Unit
Andrew Milton Suedel 82, Sabin, MN died at MeritCare Palliative Care Unit Sunday, May 23, 2005.

Andrew was born May 12, 1922 to John and Minnie (Krabbenhoft) Suedel near Sabin, MN. He attended rural Onan School.

He entered the U.S. Army May 1945 and was discharged August 1946.

He became Postmaster in Sabin in 1947, transferred to Rural Mail Carrier in 1952 and served that route for forty two years. He also worked for Fankhanel Standard Service part time for twenty years.

He married Bessie Smith on February 3, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin, MN.

He belonged to the American Legion and National Rural Letter Carriers Associations.

He was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin, Mn.

Andrew is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bessie, Sabin, MN; one son, David (Jody), Sabin, MN, two grandsons, Jon (Tanya), Audubon, MN and Ryan (Kelly), Bentonville, AR and seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene (Earl) Roesler, Leonard, ND and Julie Gunkel, Moorhead, MN. A brother in law, Leonard Lammers, Moorhead, MN and a sister in law, Gloria Suedel, Moorhead, MN and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glenn, sisters, Hazel Olson, Adeline Peterson and Ruby Lammers.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He went to Wyoming and hunted deer with the same family for thirty years. He loved camping with family and friends. He loved the outdoors.

Andrew's family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at MeritCare for all of their loving care, especially the palliative care unit.
