Jose “Ricky” Rodriguez-Carrillo, 18

Jose “Ricky” Rodriguez-Carrillo, 18, Rothsay, Minn., died Sunday, April 19, 2009, in Rothsay.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 24 at the Rothsay Public School Si Flan Memorial Gymnasium.

He was born Jan. 15, 1991, in Oregon City, Ore. He attended Rothsay Public School from 1997 to the present, and would have graduated on May 24, 2009.

Ricky was a bright, fun loving, young man who was looking forward to starting his journey to becoming an FBI agent. He loved baseball, fishing and hanging out with his family and friends. He will forever be missed by those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by: his mother, Maria Willits; step-father, Dana Willits; his father, Jose Rodriguez; his siblings, Marisol, Jesse and Adriana; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding him in death were: his grandmother, Jean Carrillo, and his papa, Jose Cortez.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Grina/Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Henry Robert ‘Bob’ Hertzenberg, 89

Henry Robert “Bob” Hertzenberg, 89, Breckenridge, Minn., died Nov. 20, 2008, at St. Francis Home, Breckenridge.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge, with the Rev. Mark Manning officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at Riverside cemetery, Breckenridge.

Henry Robert Hertzenberg was born in Minneapolis, Minn., Dec. 3, 1918, the eldest son of Henry and Charlotte (Holt) Hertzenberg. His father was an architect and Bob enjoyed spending a couple summers in northern Minnesota at a summer camp his father designed and built. His father died in 1929 when Bob was only 12 years old, and during the Depression Bob worked to help support his family. He also excelled in music, playing both the cello and clarinet. At one time, he played cello with the Minneapolis Orchestra.

He graduated from South High School in 1936, and although he was enrolled to go to college at St. Olaf, he worked instead to help support his family. He later got a job working at the John Deere offices in Minneapolis and attended night school at the University of Minnesota. He later graduated from the Minnesota School of Banking and continued taking courses at the University of Minnesota.

Bob met Jean Sorenson in 1939 and the two were married at Salem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis on Nov. 15, 1941.

Bob enlisted with the Navy in March 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater on the U.S.S. Auburn. He cherished the memory of watching the American flag being raised at Iwo Jima.

He returned to Minneapolis in October 1945 and moved to New Richmond, Wis., in 1946 with his wife and oldest child Gerald, born in 1944. Bob worked for the Bank of New Richmond. Their twin sons, Richard and Robert, were born in 1948 and their daughter, Ann, was born in 1961.

Bob and Jean moved with their family to Breckenridge, Minn., in 1964, when Bob became the President and Chairman of the First National Bank of Breckenridge, known now as Bank of the West. He also immersed himself as president of the district bankers association, chairman of the Breckenridge planning commission and president of the Breckenridge Lutheran Church. He was a past president of the Breckenridge Rotary Club, a member of the Breckenridge Lake Agassiz Library board and was a member of the advisory board of St. Francis Hospital and an executive member of the SSS-300 Club board. He was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

After retirement, Bob worked for the American Bankers Association and Minnesota Bankers Association. He and Jean traveled during their retirement years to Europe, Scandinavia, New Zealand and many other places. He entered St. Francis Nursing Home in 2004 where he resided until his death.

He is survived by: his wife, Jean; sons Jerry (Diana), Kingwood, Texas; Rick (Joleen) Overland Park, Kan.; and Rob, St. Louis, Mo.; and daughter, Ann (Bob) McGray, Breckenridge; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by: his parents, Henry and Charlotte; his brother Richard; his sister, Marilyn Ernst.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Breckenridge Lutheran Church or the Riveredge Hospice in Breckenridge.

Donna Mae Ladwig, 79

Donna Mae Ladwig, 79, Vancouver, Wa., formerly of Breckenridge, Minn., died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at home in Vancouver, Wa.

Funeral services were at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Chapel.

Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery at Vancouver, Wa.

Harlan C. Olson, 80

Harlan C. Olson, 80, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, Minn.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 19 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 with a 7 p.m. prayer service in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Breckenridge, Minn., in the spring.

Harlan Curtis Olson was born May 10, 1928, in Colfax, N.D., to Arthur and Lillian (Erickson) Olson. Harlan was raised in the Colfax and Abercrombie, N.D., area. The family moved to Breckenridge where he graduated from high school.

Harlan entered the Air Force in May of 1948 and served until May of 1952. Following his discharge, Harlan returned to Breckenridge where he began work with the Great Northern Railroad as a conductor and brakeman.

Harlan married Patricia Aarestad on Sept. 17, 1955, in Breckenridge, where they made their home. In September of 1971, he was transferred to Dilworth, Minn., and they made their home in Moorhead.

Harlan enjoyed fishing at their lake cabin on Star Lake. He also enjoyed hunting as well as a round of golf. His favorite sport was bowling, winning the FM Seniors Tournament one year. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and together they shared many Salted Nut Rolls, Harlan’s favorite candy bar.

Harlan is survived by: his wife of more than 53 years, Patricia, Moorhead; two daughters, Karen (Daryl) Ellingson, Christine, N.D., and Gail (Rick) Dees, Billings, Mont.; one son, Bryan (Cynthia) Olson, Abercrombie; seven grandchildren, Alex, Tara, Heather, Krystal, Erik, Brandi and Taylor; one great-granddaughter, Payton; three sisters, Margaret Hingst, Wahpeton, N.D., Alice Kerper, Seattle, Wash., and Lois Junker, Aberdeen, S.D.; and one brother, Edwin (Doris) Olson, Dilworth.

In addition to his parents, Harlan was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Klubberud.

Leon Dale Tischer, 49

Leon Dale Tischer, 49, Lake Elmo, Minn., formerly of Breckenridge, Minn., died May 18, 2009, at his home in Lake Elmo.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23 at Grace Lutheran Church in Breckenridge, with the Rev. Burt Benson officiating.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 22 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Burial and graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 at Fairview cemetery, Stillwater, Minn.

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Tischer, Jesse Tischer, Travis Tischer, Carmeron Tischer, Austin Lehman and Aden Lehman

Honorary pallbearers are Shawn Tischer, Heidi Sadat, Lindsey Tischer, Carmen Tischer, Alexa Lehman, Brian Ness and Harlan Deike.

Leon was born in Breckenridge on Feb. 29, 1960, to Reuben and Joyce (Sturgess) Tischer. He grew up in Breckenridge, graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1978 and Pipestone Technical College in 1979.

Leon married Sheri Lehman on Sept. 14, 1996. They lived in Bloomington, Maplewood, Minn., and later moved to Lake Elmo with their two sons, Dylan, 8, and Ethan 6. Leon was active with his family in many outdoor activities. He enjoyed taking care of his home, swimming, biking and cross country skiing. Special times included traveling to Minnesota lake country to spend time with his family and friends.

Leon worked for 3M Company in Wahpeton until 1987, when he attended Century College. He then worked for Wayne Transport. He was a member of Laborers Union No. 132 and was working for Total Construction and Equipment at the Koch Refinery at the time of his death.

Leon is survived by: his wife, Sheri; sons, Dylan and Ethan, Lake Elmo; daughter, Amanda Paananen, East Bethel, Minn.; mother, Joyce Tischer; brothers, Doug, Ron (Marilee), Breckenridge, Dean (Trudy), Wahpeton, and Cal, Breckenridge; mother-in-law, Marlene Lehman, Dalton, Minn.; brother-in-law, Gary (Sue) Lehman, Minneapolis, Minn.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Reuben; an infant sister; and sister-in-law, Donna Tischer.
