Timothy Ned Thompson was born on Sept. 24, 1945 to Adolf and Marina (Stein) Thompson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Regis High School in 1965.

Tim started college but soon realized the need to enlist in the United States Air Force because of the Vietnam War. He continued the strong Thompson family tradition of military service. During his time in the United States Air Force, Tim obtained three different specialty codes which included becoming an instructor. From 1965 – 1969 he taught metal processing for the USAF at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill., and was granted key instructor status in 1968.

After leaving the military, Tim worked as a journeyman tool and die maker at A.O. Smith Corporation in Kankakee, Ill., from 1969 – 1972. Tim's passion for teaching led him to North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D., where he completed 36 years of distinguished service. He taught in the machine tool department and was department chair from 1985 until 1992. At that time, he created and implemented a new program, automated manufacturing technician. Tim retired in May 2011 from NDSCS.

Tim enjoyed fishing, hunting, working outside and spending time with family, especially Cory and Ryan, whom he helped raise and to whom he was a father figure. Tim loved teaching, helping others and making people happy. Tim affected many lives throughout his teaching tenure, not only with technical skills but also with common sense living and compassion.

The visitation is from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Minn.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Breckenridge Lutheran Church, Breckenridge. Officiating is the Rev. Mark Manning. The Interment is Tabor cemetery (near Fredonia, ND).
