Edel Gast
ARGYLE, Minn. -- Edel Gast, 89, Argyle, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, in Good Samaritan Center, Warren, Minn.
Edel Dyrud was born Jan. 7, 1911, the daughter of Peter and Marie (Hanson) Dyrud, in Viking, Minn. She graduated from high school in Newfolden, Minn., and from Deaconess Hospital and Nursing School, Grand Forks. She married
Clarence Gast on Nov. 18, 1937, in Newfolden. They lived in Argyle. Clarence Gast died June 27, 1976.
She is survived by children, Lance, Jacksonville, Fla., and Estelle Lease, Minneapolis; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Amos Dyrud, Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; and three sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church, Argyle.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Woodlawn cemetery, Argyle. Memorials are suggested to Our Savior's Free Lutheran Church.
Jane Martin
ALVARADO, Minn. -- Jane K. Martin, 64, Alvarado, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Marshall Manor Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Warren, Minn.
Jane Kaste was born July 26, 1935, the daughter of Emil and Grace (Jaeger) Kaste, in Mahnomen, Minn. She moved to East Grand Forks in 1971, where she worked as a farm-domestic labor. She married
Phillip Martin on April 9, 1983, in East Grand Forks.
She is survived by her parents; sons, Robert (Thelma) Abbott, Grand Forks, and Bernard McNutt-Martin, Alvarado; daughters, Melody (Thomas) Estus Jr., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Margaret (Francisco) DeLeon Sr., LaPryor, Texas; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; sisters, Elaine (Daniel) Kratochvil, Mary (Willard) Baird, and Yvonne Cariveau, all of Grand Forks, and Shirley (Clarence) Buschette, Mahnomen, Minn.; brothers, Ervin (Audrey), Madison, Wis., and Earl (Terry), East Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother, Marvin.
Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Stennes Funeral Home Chapel, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the chapel.
Burial: Oaklawn cemetery, Alvarado.
Sheldon Jorgenson
FISHER, Minn. -- Sheldon Jorgenson, 72, Fisher, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at home.
Sheldon Lowell Jorgenson was born Nov. 19, 1927, the son of Isaac and Julia (Anderson) Jorgenson, in Fisher, where he attended school. He farmed with his father. He joined the U.S. Army Nov. 7, 1951. After being discharged he returned to the farm. He married
Clorise Strand on Feb. 23, 1957, in Fisher. They lived and farmed near Fisher until moving into Fisher in 1991. He retired in 1992.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Tamera (Bruce) Newhouse, Fisher, and Bonnie (Loren) Abel, East Grand Forks; five grandchildren; brothers, Raymond (Mary), Wallace and Robert (Ardella), all of Fisher; and sisters, Mildred (Merrill) Stroble, Angus, Minn., and Aldoris (Marvin) Reitmeier, Crookston.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Bette Jorgenson.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Fisher Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Fisher Lutheran cemetery.
Military rites: Theodore Stalemo American Legion Post No. 242, Fisher.
George Engen
GATZKE, Minn. -- George Engen, 87, Gatzke, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Warren, Minn., where he had lived since 1994.
George Gerhard Engen was born Oct. 30, 1912, the son of George and Gina (Vernes) Engen, in Rollis Township, Marshall County, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Gatzke. He married
Alma Severts on Oct. 15, 1938, in Newfolden, Minn. They lived and farmed in Rollis Township. Alma Engen died April 21, 1972. He later moved to Grygla, Minn.
He is survived by a son, Gene, Gatzke; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha Murphy, in Florida.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Linda.
Private Services: 2 p.m. today, Collins Funeral Chapel, Middle River.
Visitation: 9 a.m. today until time of services in the funeral chapel.
Burial: Landstad cemetery, Gatzke.
Donald Bergeson
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Donald "Don" Bergeson, 69, Bagley, died Monday, May 8, 2000, in Clearwater Memorial Hospital, Bagley.
Donald Walter Bergeson was born May 18, 1930, the son of Walter and Dorothy (Hetland) Bergeson, in Clearwater County, Minn. He attended school in Gonvick, Gully and Leon, Minn. He joined the U.S. Army in January 1951 and served until January 1953. He worked construction on the Iron Range and in Greenland from 1953 to 1962. He married
Signe Hanson on Aug. 27, 1955, in Bagley. They farmed from 1962 to 1978. He worked construction in Alaska from 1975 to 1977 and then in Bemidji until May 18, 1978.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Bruce (Kaia), Clarkfield, Minn.; daughters, Julie (Bill) Simmons, Park River, N.D., and Lauri Labat, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; his father, Clearbrook; sisters, Delores (Ron) Neumann, Bemidji, Donna (Edsel) Anderson, Greenbush, Minn., Dorene (Tony) Wood, Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Donnis Hendrickson, Fargo; brothers, Daryl, Bagley, and Darwin, Arlington, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, June Bergeson, Oklee, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and a brother, Duane.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Faith Lutheran Church, Bagley.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Bagley City cemetery.
Herman Janssen
GONVICK, Minn. -- Herman H. Janssen, 64, Gonvick, died Monday, May 8, 2000, in Clearwater Memorial Hospital, Bagley, Minn.
Herman Henry Janssen was born May 30, 1935, the son of Arian and Clara (Vangen) Janssen, in Gonvick, where he graduated from high school in 1953. He married
Eva Christopherson on June 16, 1956. He worked for the Gonvick Elevator, Sunflower Plant, Gonvick Meat Market, Northern Sand & Gravel, Trail, Minn., and Thorson, Inc., Bemidji. He farmed and operated a seed business. He retired in 1996.
He is survived by his wife; sons, David (Anne), Paul, Idaho, Curt (Brenda), Heyburn, Idaho, Robert, Gonvick; daughters, Judy (Mick) Farkas, West Fargo, and Cheryl (Glen) Huseth, Wright, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren; sisters Phyllis (Gene) Erickson, Fridley, Minn., and Edith (Duane) Nelson, Aurora, Minn.; and brothers, Harlow (Joyce), Northfield, Minn., and Kenneth (Pat), Hill City, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen (Richard) Pelham.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Samhold Lutheran Church, Gonvick.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Samhold Lutheran cemetery.
