Louise Mercil
BROOKS, Minn. -- Louise Mercil, 97, Brooks, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in McIntosh (Minn.) Manor Nursing Home, where she had lived since Aug. 15, 1997.
Louise Champagne was born June 28, 1903, the daughter of Peter and Idella (Turcotte) Champagne, in Poplar River Township, Red Lake County, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Louis Mercil on Nov. 24, 1921, in Brooks, where they lived and farmed. Louis Mercil died July 11, 1980. She moved to Thief River Falls in 1993.
She is survived by children, Don (Genevieve), Townsend, Wis., Everill (Annette), Leesburg, Fla., Lloyd, Thief River Falls, Donna (Willard) Bergeron, Oklee, Minn., Dellas (Ron) Paradis, Brooks, and Madeline (Parnell) Thibert, St. Charles, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Mercil, Brooks; 38 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Goldie Champagne, Minneapolis, and Marcilla Champagne, Madison, Wis.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; two great-granddaughters; and 15 brothers and sisters.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brooks.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services, all in the church.
Burial: St. Joseph Catholic cemetery (Johnson, Red Lake Falls, Minn.).
Betty Schaar
WAUBUN, Minn. -- Betty Schaar, 73, Waubun, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
Betty Jean Shook was born Dec. 1, 1926, the daughter of Fred and Edna (Wooley) Shook, in Davison, Mich., where she attended school. She was a waitress at her mother's restaurant in Flint, Mich. She then worked for Douglas Aircraft as a wing engineer in Long Branch, Calif., and at Healy's Bar in Flint as a barmaid. She became a dietitian at the Flint Osteopathic Hospital and later at River Bend Nursing Home, Grand Blanc, Mich. She was a barmaid at the Davison Hotel and then worked at the Stepping Stone Girls School in Flint. She was also the house mother at Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity in Flint. She married
Raymond Schaar on Aug. 26, 1966, in Flint. They moved to Waubun in 1984. Raymond Schaar died in 1999.
She is survived by a son, Lawrence (Anna) Shurtz, Hemit, Calif.; daughters, Sharon (Jeremiah) Watson and Michel "Shelly" (Gary Sr.) LaGue, both of Waubun; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Jack (Edora), Clio, Mich., and Fred (Bea), Jerusalem, Ark.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; and a sister.
Services: 7: 30 p.m. Thursday, Elbow Lake Lutheran Church, Waubun.
Visitation: 5: 30 to 8: 30 p.m. Thursday in the church.
Burial: Flint Memorial Park.
Laura Mercil
RED LAKE FALLS, Minn. -- Laura Mercil, 93, Red Lake Falls, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls.
Laura Marie Patnode was born March 18, 1907, the daughter of Stephen and Sarah (Page) Patnode, in Moxee, Wash. She moved with her family to Red Lake Falls. She married
Theophile Goulet on Feb. 22, 1925, in Red Lake Falls. They lived and farmed in the Red Lake Falls area. Theophile Goulet died July 18, 1964. She married
Leon Mercil on Dec. 30, 1968, in Red Lake Falls. She worked as a cook at Hillcrest Nursing Home for 14 years. Leon Mercil died Sept. 1, 1990.
She is survived by a son, Leo (Bernice), Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; a daughter, Lorraine (Clayton) Moran, Thief River Falls; daughter-in-law, Emily Goulet, Auburn, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four stepchildren; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Goulet; and a grandson.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Johnson Funeral Service, Red Lake Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Jeffrey Blake
HOLT, Minn. -- Jeffrey N. Blake, 51, Holt, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at home.
Jeffrey Nelson Blake was born Dec. 16, 1948, the son of Harvey and Jean (Crane) Blake, in San Diego. He grew up and attended school in Nashville City, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He returned and lived in several Western states. In 1972, he moved to Minnesota. He lived in Holt and in Drayton, N.D., where he worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. for more than 20 years.
He is survived by sisters, Caroline Blake, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Ellen Crane, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Gustav Adolph Lutheran Church, Strathcona, Minn.
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Collins Funeral Chapel, Greenbush, Minn., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Poplar Grove cemetery, Strathcona.
Adrienne Dickman
OSLO, Minn. -- Adrienne F. Dickman, 64, Fargo, formerly of Oslo, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Adrienne F. Paschke was born Feb. 21, 1936, the daughter of Frank and Stella (Mozinski) Paschke, in Oslo, where she attended school. She married
John Norlock. She moved to Fargo in 1980. She worked for St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, and for St. Mary's Cathedral as a housekeeper. She also worked for Hardee's and several housecleaning jobs.
She is survived by her son, Patrick Norlock, Burnsville, Minn.; her mother, Fargo; sisters, Gladys Hightower, Fargo and Deloris Jiskra, Grand Forks; and brothers, Clarence (Karen), Fargo and Arvid (Esther), Blackduck, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her father.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. today, Boulger Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: 5 p.m. Friday, St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Oslo.
Loren Nash
Jean Nash
ADA, Minn. -- Loren "Pete" Nash, 78, Ada, died Sunday Aug. 27, 2000, in SCCI Hospital, Fargo. Jean Nash, 79, Ada, died Sunday Aug. 27, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Loren Marvin Nash was born Feb. 5, 1922, the son of John and Ida (Anderson) Nash, Ada, where he graduated from high school in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He later served in the Army Reserves during the Korean War.
Jean Helen Augusta Johnson was born Sept. 21, 1920, the daughter of Gustaf and Albertina (Wilkins) Johnson, in Ada, where she graduated from high school in 1937.
They were married
on June 7, 1947, in East Grand Forks. She worked for Norman County Social Services as a fiscal officer for 43 years. He owned and operated a plumbing and heating business with his father. In 1959, he sold the business and began working as a pipe fitter. They retired in the early 1980s.
They are survived by their daughters, Mary Gilbertson, Ada, and Lori (Ray) Spilde, South Twin Lake, Mahnomen, Minn.; and a granddaughter.
He is survived by a sister, Donna Christianson, Shelton, Wash.
She is survived by sisters, Elvira Johnson, Twin Valley, Minn., Ardis Emmerich, Carrington, N.D., Lenore Benson, Mahnomen, Minn.; Royal (Leon) Bothwell, St. Paul, Alta Brunsberg, Walworth, Wis.; and brother, David (Delores), Ada.
They were preceded in death by a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Merle; and sisters, Irma Simonson and Verna Arnberg.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, Minn.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada.
Burial: Ada Municipal cemetery.
