Carol Haats
ST. HILAIRE, Minn. -- Carol Haats, 62, St. Hilaire, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, in Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo.
Carol Ann Mather was born Nov. 4, 1938, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Muir) Mather, in Grand Forks County, N.D. She grew up and graduated from high school in Gilby, N.D., in 1956. She married
Gordon Haats on June 23, 1956, in Gilby, where they lived. In 1963, they moved to Grafton, N.D. In 1956, they moved to Spokane, Wash., and then to St. Hilaire in 1966. She worked for several restaurants in St. Hilaire and Thief River Falls. She worked for Northern Pride, Thief River Falls until retiring in September 2000.
She is survived by her husband; children, Eileen (Ron) Kelley, Detroit Lakes, Minn., Mark, Thief River Falls, and Steve (Brenda), Warroad, Minn.; six grandchildren; her mother, Grand Forks; and a brother, Ken, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Calvary Lutheran Church, St. Hilaire.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Community cemetery, St. Hilaire.
Gina Rolfson
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Gina Rolfson, 23, Bagley, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in the University of Minnesota Hospital, Bagley.
Gina Rolfson was born May 8, 1977, the daughter of John and Sandy (Shanfeld) Rolfson, in Austin, Minn. In 1978, she moved with her family to Bagley, where she graduated from high school in 1997.
She is survived by her parents; sisters, Lisa (Bob) Bestul, Ely, Minn., Gail (Shawn) Thorson, Andover, Minn., and Lori (Mark) Agnew and Sara (Josh) Burley, both of Bagley; brothers, Guy (Debbie), Bagley, and Tommy, Ely; and grandparents, Lloyd and Mildred Shanfeld, Charles City, Iowa, and Isa Streeter, Bemidji.
She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Neil Rolfson.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bagley.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Cease Funeral Home, Bagley, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery.
Elie Normandin
GENTILLY, Minn. -- Elie Normandin, 92, Gentilly, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, in the Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston.
Elie I. Normandin was born Oct. 26, 1908, the son of Arthur and Alida (Benoit) Normandin, in Gentilly, where he attended school. He married
Marian Muir on Dec. 26, 1944, in Gentilly, where they lived and farmed. He also worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. He retired from farming in 1973 and moved into Gentilly. He worked on the Ed Beiswenger farm during sugar-beet harvest.
He is survived by his wife; sons, James (Jacqueline), Fisher, Minn., Richard (Debi), Oceanside, Calif., Robert, Elko, Nev., Roger and Mary, Mankato, Minn., and Dale (Debra), Anchorage, Alaska.; a daughter, Joyce (Gary) DeShields, Bentonville, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Henrietta Barsaloux and Marie Normandin, both of Crookston; and a brother, Louis, Crookston.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Paul and George; and a sister, Pauline.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, St. Peter's Catholic Church, Gentilly.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Peter's Catholic cemetery, Gentilly.
Gary Watkins
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Gary Watkins, 59, Boise City, Okla., died Monday, July 10, 2000, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Gary Keith Watkins was born April 27, 1941, the son of Charles and Olga (Lindstrom) Watkins, in Bagley. He grew up and attended school in Bear Creek Township, Clearwater County, Minn. He attended high school in Bagley. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961. He married
Grace South on Aug. 22, 1964. He worked as a carpenter, and lived in several states. He and his wife Lana had lived in Pampa, Texas, and then moved to Boise City. He worked at Love's Country Store doing carpentry and maintenance.
He is survived by his wife, Boise City; a son, Douglas, Flourisant, Mo.; a daughter, Diane (Sean) Richardson, Grand Junction, Colo.; stepsons, John (Melody) Robinson, Walters, Okla., and Jeffery (Michelle) Robinson, Crowley, Texas; a stepdaughter, Janay (Charles) Ogston, Stratford, Texas; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Duane "Buck" (Joanne), Bemidji, Richard, Erhard, Minn., David (Verna), Sierra Vista, Calif., and Michael (Connie), Becida, Minn.; sisters, Doris Thorson, Becida, Gladys Reid, Virginia, Minn., Donna (Delbert) Fenner, Bemidji, Beverly Roberts, Solway, Minn., Patricia O'Neil, Silver Bay, Minn., and Bonnie (David) Wilander, Becida; and a sister-in-law, Leanne Watkins, Libbey, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, "Buzz".
Memorial Services: 3 p.m. today, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Fern Township cemetery, Fern Township, Hubbard County, Minn.
Stanley Kurowski
FLORIAN, Minn. -- Stanley Kurowski, 74, Monticello, Minn., formerly of Florian, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at home.
Stanley A. Kurowski was born Aug. 28, 1925, the son of Peter and Frances (Myszkowski) Kurowski, in Florian, where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1945. He married
Adeline Chwialkowski on June 1, 1949. He farmed and worked construction in Marshall County, Minn. He moved to the Twin Cities area in 1966. He worked in the construction industry, and they lived in several communities. He retired at age 65.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Wayne (Deborah), Annandale, Minn., Greg and Tim, both of Monticello, and Jeff (Jodi), Elk River, Minn.; daughters, Linda (David) Kujava, Warren, Minn., Brenda (Darrell) Moos, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Wanda (Kevin) Grabow, Dalbo, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Pauline Plette, Cincinnati, and Regina Chwialkowski, Warren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. today, St. Henry's Catholic Church, Monticello.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery (Peterson-Grimsmo, Monticello).
Clara Spenningsby
ADA, Minn. -- Clara Spenningsby, 87, Ada, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Clara Norby was born May 26, 1913, the daughter of Louis and Marie (Sather) Norby, in Gary, Minn., where she attended school. She married
William Spenningsby on Jan. 1, 1936, in Gary. She lived in Pochetello, Idaho, Muskogee, Okla., and Minneapolis while he was in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, they moved to Ada, where she worked at Ada Hotel and Bluebird Cafe.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Marilyn (Jim) Lee, Hendrum, Minn.; three granddaughters; one great-grandchild; sisters, Mabel (Marvin) Thompson, Twin Valley, Minn., and Myrtle LaClair, Minneapolis.; and a sister-in-law, Marie Norby, Twin Valley.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin, Pete, Olaf and Lloyd.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Zion Lutheran Church, Ada.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, all in the church.
Burial: Ada Municipal cemetery (Fredrikson, Ada).
