Byron Bjorge
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- Byron Bjorge, 69, Mahnomen, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Mahnomen Health Center Hospital.
Byron Elden Bjorge was born Aug. 28, 1931, the son of Frank and Mathilda (Engen) Bjorge, in Gary, Minn., where he attended school. He worked as a farmhand before joining the U.S. Army in 1952. He married
Rita LaVoy. They lived in Mahnomen, where he worked in road construction and for Mahnomen Wholesale. He retired in 1988. He then worked part-time.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Larry, Anoka, Minn., Byron Jr. and Roy (Becky), both of Mahnomen, and Robert (Jackie), Naytahwaush, Minn.; daughters, Ruth (Tom) McArthur, Naytahwaush, and Brenda (Harley) Hanson, Mahnomen; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Edna (Armond) Kvamme, Twin Valley, Minn.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Floyd, Roger and an infant; and sisters, Irene Gilbertson and Arla McFarlin.
Services: 2 p.m. today, First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen.
Burial: First Lutheran cemetery.

Lucille Kildal
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Lucille Kildal, 80, Bagley, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in Clearwater County Memorial Hospital, Bagley.
Lucille Hedlund was born Aug. 30, 1920, the daughter of Carl and Clara (Evje) Hedlund, in Gully, Minn. She attended school in Gully and Crookston and Bemidji State Teachers College. She taught school in Clearwater County, Bagley and Shevlin. She married
Edwin Kildal on July 6, 1947. She later worked parttime as a clerk at the Shevlin Post Office.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Karsten, Pequot Lakes, Minn.; and sisters, Marjorie Pocheco, San Ramon, Calif., Corrine Urness, Bloomington, Minn., Muriel Peltola, Minnetonka, Minn., and Delphine (Samuel) Silverman, San Carlos, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Carol.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. today, Landstad Lutheran Church, Shevlin.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Landstad Lutheran cemetery (Cease, Bagley).
Larry Coauette
SHELLY, Minn. -- Larry D. Coauette, 66, Shelly, died of cancer Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at home.
Larry D. Coauette was born July 21, 1934, the son of Ervin and Ann (Haller) Coauette, in Crookston. He attended Northwest School of Agriculture, Crookston. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953 to 1955. He married
LaVonna Wegge on Dec. 13, 1958, in Nielsville. He worked as a plasterer and Sheetrock finisher for 43 years.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Michele Forsman and Wendy Coauette, both of West Fargo, Melanie (Ted) Beach, Hillsboro, N.D., and Brooke (Mark) Wiebusch, Argusville, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and sisters, Dolores (Dave) Maki, Chisholm, Minn., and Shirley (Keith) Durnen, Pahrump, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law, Steve Forsman.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Augustana Lutheran Church, Shelly.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home Chapel, Climax, Minn.
Burial: Sundet cemetery, Nielsville, Minn.
Military rites: Nielsville American Legion Post No. 336.
Jacob Butler
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Jacob Mitchell Butler, the infant son of Vance and Melissa (Kostrzewski) Butler, was born and died Sept. 2, 2000, in Rochester Methodist Hospital.
He is survived by his parents, Roseau; a sister, Kayla Butler, at home; a brother, Riley, at home; and grandparents, Jim and Donna Butler, Salol, Minn., and Dorene Kostrzewski, Crookston.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Evangelical Covenant Church, Roseau.
Burial: Norland cemetery, Salol (Helgeson, Roseau).
Florence Roragen
FERTILE, Minn. -- Florence L. Roragen, 85, Fertile, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at home.
Florence Luella Gast was born Oct. 9, 1914, the daughter of Otto and Helen (Lenz) Gast, in Beltrami, Minn., where she graduated from high school. She attended Moorhead State Teacher's College, where she received her teaching degree. She taught school in the Waubun and Mahnomen, Minn., areas. She married
Reuben "Spud" Roragen on June 9, 1938, in Beltrami. They lived and farmed near Beltrami and later near Fertile. They moved into Fertile in the early 1970s. They later managed Garfield Insurance Co., Fertile. Reuben Roragen died Oct. 10, 1977. She worked until the middle 1980s.
She is survived by a son, Brian, Duluth; daughters, Linda Wark, Sacramento, Synneva "Sunny" Reed, Seattle, and Sue (Jeff) Swartz, Lonsdale, Minn.; four granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Edith Balstad, Crookston, Irene Swanson, Pine City, Minn., and Fay (Russell) Gullickson, Fertile.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Loyal and Warren; and sisters, Gladys and an infant sister.
Services: 10: 30 Friday, Little Norway Lutheran Church, Fertile.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 6 p.m. prayer service, Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile.
Burial: Little Norway Lutheran cemetery.
Robert Carter
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Robert C. Carter, 83, Roseau, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at home.
Robert C. Carter was born June 4, 1917, the son of John and Ada (Abrahamson) Carter, in Chicago. He grew up and attended school in Normal, Ill. He graduated from University of Illinois in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946, where he received seven Air Medals, Distinguished Flying Cross, Presidential Unit Citation, four Theater Ribbons and flew 35 missions. He received his Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash., in 1949. He married
Georgia Richardson on March 9, 1937. He worked in Spokane practicing law from 1949 to 1951. He and his brother owned and operated the Carter Beverage Co. in Long Lake, Minn. He moved to Roseau in 1966, and practiced law with Chester Yon. He started his own practice with his son, John, in 1972. He retired in 1981. Georgia Carter died in 1973. He married
Gertie Erickson in June 1975.
He is survived by his wife; a son, John (Eileen), Roseau; stepchildren, Stephen (Barb) Hetteen, Coon Rapids, Minn., Michael (Janet) Hetteen, Roseau, and Donavon (Chris) Hetteen, Wannaska, Minn.; two grandchildren; six step grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Grace Lindley, Wayzata, Minn.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary and Ada Jane; and a brother, John.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Bethel Mission Covenant Church, Roseau.
Visitation: Noon to 7 p.m. today, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Micknock cemetery, Wannaska.
Military rites: Roseau Memorial Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Northern Communities Hospice.
