Clara Hvitsand
KARLSTAD, Minn. -- Clara T. Hvitsand, 90, Karlstad, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Minn., where she had lived since 1997.
Clara Theresia Rice was born Jan. 17, 1910, the daughter of John and Clara (Jacobson) Rice, in Kittson County, Minn. She graduated from high school in Lake Bronson, Minn., in 1929 and received her nurses training at Fergus Falls (Minn.) State Hospital School of Nursing. She married
Waldeman Hvitsand on July 28, 1937, in Minneapolis. They lived in Morris, Minn., where she worked as head nurse at the Stevens County Hospital. Waldeman Hvitsand died Feb. 12, 1954. She also worked at Fergus Falls State Hospital before retiring in 1975. She then moved to Karlstad.
She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Johnson, Hallock.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Verna, Mabel, Pearl, Frances and Margaret.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, First Lutheran Church, Karlstad.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Riverside cemetery, Lake Bronson (Hughes, Hallock).
Mary Homme
CLEARBROOK, Minn. -- Mary Homme, 89, Clearbrook, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in the Good Samaritan Center, Clearbrook, where she had lived since 1995.
Mary Elizabeth Pletschett was born Nov. 10, 1910, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Weber) Pletschett, in Trail, Minn. She married
Marvin Homme Dec. 6, 1932. They farmed south of Gully, N.D. In 1970, they moved to Bagley, Minn. Marvin Homme died in April 1995.
She is survived by daughters, Lucille (Arne) Godtland, Gully, and Delores (Ray) Lund, Embarrass, Minn.; a son-in-law, Dean (Dianne) Godtland; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Peterson, Gonvick, Minn.; and brothers, Charles, Trail, and Nick, Gonvick.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Arvilla; a granddaughter; and brothers, Johnnie and Edward.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bagley.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Charles Catholic cemetery, Trail (Cease, Bagley).
Isabelle King
FOSSTON, Minn. -- Isabelle "Belle" King, 82, Fosston, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Midway Care Center, Fosston.
Isabelle King was born Jan. 20, 1918, the daughter of Wilfred and Anna (Bergeron) King, in Argyle, Minn. For the past 26 years, she lived in Midway Care Center.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren, Minn.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: St. Rose cemetery, Argyle.
Duane Balderston
LAKE BRONSON, Minn. -- Duane L. Balderston, 67, Lake Bronson, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Duane Lawrence Balderston was born Aug. 28, 1933, the son of Lawrence and Alta (Sorgenfrey) Balderston, in Roseau County, Minn. He attended school in Lancaster, Minn., and agricultural college in Crookston. He worked as a farm laborer and carpenter and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, where he earned his general equivalency degree. He married
Darlene Vagle on Dec. 17, 1955, in Lancaster. They lived and farmed in Poppleton Township, Kittson County, Minn.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Larry and Neil, both of Lake Bronson; a daughter, Roxanne Kulyk, Lake Bronson; three grandchildren; sisters, Viola (Robert) Jensen, Phoenix, and Betty (Gordon) Boen, Minneapolis; and a brother, Virgil, Lake Bronson.
He was preceded in death by sons, Donovan Ray and Duane LaMar Jr.; a brother, Dale; and a sister, Berniece Cossolotto.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Lancaster Covenant Church.
Visitation: 4 to 5 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. prayer service, Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock, Minn.
Burial: Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery, Lancaster.
George Lundmark
LEONARD, Minn. -- George Lundmark, 92, Leonard, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Clearwater Memorial Hospital, Bagley, Minn.
George Oscar Lundmark was born Feb. 24, 1908, the son of Gustaf and Maria Lundmark, in Leonard, where he attended school. He lived and farmed the family farm all his life except for a few years he stayed with his uncle Fred Isackson, Leonard. He also helped care for his parents. He moved to Good Samaritan Home Oct. 27, 1992.
He is survived by brothers, Helge, Leonard, Minn., and Paul, Brainerd, Minn.
He was preceded in death by six brothers; and a sister.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Leonard.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Norway Lake cemetery, Leonard (Cease, Bagley).
Katie Olafson
WARROAD, Minn. -- Katie Jo Olafson, 16, Warroad, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Katie Jo Olafson was born Aug. 24, 1984, the daughter of Joe and Joan (Siats) Olafson, in Roseau, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Warroad. She was a sophomore at Warroad High School. She participated in volleyball, basketball, track, and band. This past summer she worked at Lakeview Restaurant.
She is survived by her parents; brothers, Jared and Travis, Warroad; grandmothers, Violet Olafson, Bemidji, and Roxanna Siats, Mizpah, Minn.
She was preceded in death by grandfathers, Sylvester Siats and Carl Olafson.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Warroad High School.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. devotional service, Zion Lutheran Church, Warroad, and one hour before services in the school.
Burial: Mizpah cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) or Zion Lutheran Youth Organization (Helgeson, Warroad).
