Shirley Kaiser

GARY, Minn. -- Shirley Kaiser, 62, Gary, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at home.

Shirley Ann Lien was born Aug. 2, 1938, the daughter of Olender and Minnie (Jacobson) Lien, in Borup, Minn., where she attended school. She moved with her family to Twin Valley, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1957. She married Theodore Kaiser on Nov. 9, 1957, in Mahnomen, Minn. They lived and farmed near Gary. From the mid-1980s to the late 1980s she worked for the Ben Franklin Store in Mahnomen. She then worked at Walt's Jack and Jill and later at Star Dry Cleaning both of Mahnomen. She worked for Shooting Star Casino from 1998 until December 1999.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Rick (Marilyn), Mahnomen, and Leo and David (Mary), both of Gary; daughters, Sandra (Paul) Peterick, Thief River Falls, Sherry (Paul) Radermacher, Casselton, N.D., and SuzAnn Kaiser, Dilworth, Minn.; nine grandchildren; brothers, Milo (Kathy), Mahnomen, and Lloyd (Arvilla), Twin Valley; and sisters, Carol (Art Jr.) Benson, Twin Valley, Orva Johnson, Portland, Ore., and Joyce Montplaisir, Fargo.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; her parents; sisters, Berniece, Myrtle, Gladys and Mavis; and a brother, Ervin.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 5 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. prayer service, Anderson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Michael's Catholic cemetery.

Minnie Salvhus

MCINTOSH, Minn. -- Minnie Salvhus, 87, McIntosh, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in First Care Hospital, Fosston, Minn.

Minnie Josephine Dyrdahl was born on Sept. 4, 1912, the daughter of Joseph and Matilda (Marum) Dyrdahl, in Richland, Minn. She moved with her family to McIntosh, were she graduated from high school. She married Andrew Salvhus on Jan. 4, 1936, in McIntosh. They lived on the family farm, near McIntosh. In 1943, they moved to Lessor Township. They moved to McIntosh in 1978. She worked for McIntosh Manor Nursing Home until she retired. Andrew Salvhus died April 3, 1990.

She is survived by children; Arvid (Lori), Twin Valley, Minn., Joanne (Glen) Brua, David (Sandra) and Daniel (Mary), all of McIntosh, and Marilyn Hamre, Thief River Falls; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Marion Moore, McIntosh and Susan Dyrdahl, Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Leighton Hamre; and brothers and sisters, Joseph, Martha, Nels, Obert, Harry, Anna and Mabel.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church, McIntosh.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, McIntosh Centennial Community Center, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Mount Carmel Free Lutheran cemetery (Carlin-Hoialmen, McIntosh).

Frank Grochowski

STRANDQUIST, Minn. -- Frank Grochowski, 71, Strandquist, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Frank Michael Grochowski was born April 12, 1929, the son of Joseph and Emelia (Kujawa) Grochowski, in Stephen, Minn. In 1942, he moved with his family to Strandquist, where he attended school. He farmed with his family and area farmers. He then drove milk truck for Bridgeman's for 25 years. For the past 29 years he has worked for Kenneth Kuznia doing farm work.

He is survived by a sister, Mary (Raymond) Pietruszewski, Karlstad, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Aloyze.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Assumption Catholic Church, Florian, Minn.

Visitation: After 6 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services all in the church.

Burial: Assumption Catholic cemetery, Florian (Quanrud-DuBore, Warren, Minn.).

Mabel Olson

STRANDQUIST, Minn. -- Mabel Olson, 92, Strandquist, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, where she had lived for the past three years.

Mabel Victoria Johnson was born Nov. 7, 1907, the daughter of Alvin and Ragna (Erickson) Johnson, in Strandquist, where she attended school. She married Erick Olson on Sept. 4, 1926, in Strandquist. They farmed near Strandquist until 1995, when they moved into Strandquist. Erick Olson died in January 1956. She later moved to Kennedy, Minn., and then moved in with her daughter, Jeanette, on the Iron Range, and later with her granddaughter, Sharon, in Emerald, Wis. In 1990, the returned to Kennedy.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanette Johnson, Mountain Iron, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eunice Lofstrom, Strandquist.

She was preceded in death by an infant son; a daughter, Adeline Larson; two grandchildren; brothers, Rudy, Helmer, Lloyd, Melvin, Roland and Wilfred; sisters, Gladys Rud and Maxine Kostrzewski; and sons-in-law, Robert Larson and Roland Johnson.

Services: 2 p.m. today, Bethesda Lutheran Church, Strandquist.

Visitation: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Bethesda Lutheran cemetery.

Hulda Sundbom

BAGLEY, Minn. -- Hulda Sundbom, 89, Duluth, formerly of Bagley, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.

Hulda Anderson was born Aug. 7, 1911, the daughter of Alfred and Karen (Kohl) Anderson. She lived in Fosston. She married Albin Sundbom on Dec. 26, 1951. They moved to Bagley. Albin Sundbom died April 2, 1981. She lived in Duluth for the past nine years.

She is survived by a sister, Clara Marine, Duluth.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Herman, Conrad, Daniel and Bert; and sisters, Gustaf and Amanda.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley.

Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.

Burial: Bagley City cemetery.

Bette Olson

MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Bette Olson, 73, died Nov. 5, 2000, at the home of her son, Mark, in Eau Claire, Wis.

Bette Wiseth was born Oct. 31, 1927, the daughter of Roy and Ida (Peterson) Wiseth, in Moylan Township, Marshall County, Minn. She graduated from high school in Goodridge, Minn. She moved to the Twin Cities area. She married Everett "Bud" Olson in Goodridge. They lived in Thief River Falls, Karlstad, Minn., and Goodridge, until moving to Minnetonka.

She is survived by children, the Rev. Mark (Elaine), Eau Claire, Barry (Diane) Owatonna, Joanne (Tim) Hagen and Richard, both of Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; brothers, Lloyd (Sylvia) and Kenny (Marilyn), both of Goodridge, and Dean (Ione), Cottage Grove, Minn.; a sister, Jean (Sherman) Groven; a sister-in-law, Ethel Wiseth; and her stepfather, Albert Johnson, all of Goodridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a brother, Robert.

Services: Were held in Minnetonka.

Burial: Fort Snelling cemetery, Minneapolis (Green Thief River Falls).

Dell Johnson

ROSEAU, Minn. -- Dell E. Johnson, 84, Roseau, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Erskine, Minn.

Dell Edvin Johnson was born May 13, 1916, the son of John and Albertina (Palm) Johnson, in Badger, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Stokes Township. He married Evelyn Hulst on Dec. 14, 1940, in Roseau. He worked several jobs including hauling gravel, as a clerk for Hartz Store, for Standard Oil Co., the Farmers Union Oil Co., and the milk plant, all in Roseau. He then worked as the manager for Row Lumber in Badger for 30 years. He retired in 1981.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Jerry (Linda), Roseau; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle; and brothers, Bert, Alvin, Einer and Clarence.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Bethel Lutheran Church, Stafford, Minn.

Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.

Burial: Bethel Stafford cemetery.
