Ronald Pavek
WAUBUN, Minn. -- Ronald F. Pavek, 61, Waubun, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Ronald F. Pavek was born Jan. 21, 1939, the son of Joseph and Emma (Shery) Pavek, in Mahnomen, Minn. He grew up and graduated from high school in Waubun in 1957. He married
Sandra Jacobson on June 3, 1967, in Mahnomen. They lived and farmed in Waubun. He worked the beet campaigns for American Crystal Sugar Co. He retired in January 2000.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Brian, Minneapolis, Scott, St. Cloud, Minn., and Paul, Fargo; brothers, Joseph Jr. (Sylvia), American Falls, Idaho, Addy (Sharon) and Robert, both of Waubun, and Ed (Jane), Minnetonka, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Stanley.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Ann's Catholic Church, Waubun.
Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service and Knights of Columbus rosary, and one hour before services, all in the church.
Burial: St. Ann's Catholic cemetery (Mattson, Mahnomen).
Virginia Arneson
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Virginia Arneson, 62, Roseau, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at home.
Virginia Carlson was born Jan. 27, 1938, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Rygh) Carlson, in Roseau, where she graduated from high school. She received her teaching certificate in Thief River Falls and taught school in Ross, Minn., from 1957 to 1960. She married
Glen Arneson on Aug. 1, 1959, in Roseau. They moved to Hanover, Minn., in 1960, where she taught school until 1967. In 1974 they moved to Dieter Township, Roseau County, where they farmed.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Sheri Arneson, Long Prairie, Minn., and Joni (Ron) Rahier, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; three grandchildren; her mother, Roseau; brothers, Duane (Barb), Roseau, and Allan (Linda), Winona, Minn.; and a sister, Patricia (Pete) Brawders, Horace, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Concordia Lutheran Church, Roseau.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Concordia cemetery.
Henry Bolack
ADA, Minn. -- Henry W. Bolack, 88, Ada, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Bridges Medical Services Nursing Home, Ada., where he had lived since June.
Henry W. Bolack was born March 13, 1912, the son of Philip and Agnes Bolack, in Rye Township, Grand Forks County, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army, during World War II. He farmed in Erskine, Minn. After retiring, he moved to Rindal, Minn., and several area nursing homes.
He is survived by sisters, Nell Tweed, Richardton, N.D., and Beatrice Sibley, Waconia, Minn.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Louie, Elmer, Frank, Clarence, William and Art; and a sister, Eva.
Services: Will be held at a later date.
Burial: Calvary cemetery, Grand Forks (Mattson, Mahnomen, Minn.).
Clayton Stordahl
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Clayton L. Stordahl, 89, Roseau, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Roseau Area Hospital.
Clayton Lyle Stordahl was born Oct. 2, 1911, the son of Louis and Luella (Johnson) Stordahl, in Thief River Falls. He attended school in Gatzke, Minn., and graduated from Crookston A.C. He married
Grace Lyseng on June 18, 1939, in Hitterdal, Minn. They lived in Gatzke until 1945, when they moved to Roseau. From 1937 to 1939, he worked for Kenosha Auto Transport. He worked for Stordahl Trucklines for 37 years and retired in 1976. He was a charter member of the Lion's Club of Roseau.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Jim, Roseau and Larry (Sandy), Owatonna, Minn.; three grandchildren; a brother, Art (Ina), Thief River Falls; and a stepsister, Lila (Mylan) Ruud, Gatzke.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Johnson; and several sisters and brothers-in-law.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Moe Lutheran Church, Roseau.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Hope cemetery, Roseau.
Ethel Glidden
HALLOCK, Minn. -- Ethel E. Glidden, 94, Hallock, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.
Ethel E. Widerstrand was born Aug. 20, 1906, the daughter of Charlie and Emma Widerstrand, in Lancaster, Minn. She attended country school and worked for Taft's Cafe, Hallock. She married
Harold Glidden on June 11, 1927, in Hallock. They lived near Hallock and operated the Glidden Dairy Farm for several years. Harold Glidden died June 9, 1952. She helped her son with the business for several years. In 1969, she moved to Hallock.
She is survived by a son, Earl, Hallock; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Erland (Victoria), Hallock; sisters, Florence Fertig, Hallock and Cora Dietrich, Milwaukee, and a half sister, Doris Hayes, Port Charlotte, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Betty; and brothers, Elmer and Wallace.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, First Presbyterian Church, Hallock.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood cemetery, Hallock (Hughes, Hallock).
Charles French
CASS LAKE, Minn. -- Charles L. French, 81, Cass Lake, died Saturday Dec. 23, 2000 at home.
Charles LaVerne French was born Oct. 7, 1919, the son of Forrest and Ruth (Smitherman) French, in Kansas City, Kan. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1937. After completing basic training in San Diego he was assigned to Sand Point, Wash. In 1938, he was assigned to Patrol Squadron 42 patrolling the Aleutian Islands and Alaska coastline. He married
Myrtle Larson on Nov. 1, 1943, in Seattle. He was stationed in Kansas and Missouri. In 1951, he was reassigned to the Philippine Islands. His family joined him there in 1952. In 1954, he was transferred to a Naval station near San Francisco. In 1962, he was trained as a recruiter and then served in Rice Lake, Wis., and Minneapolis. He returned to the Philippines in 1962, his last duty station before retiring in 1967 was in Minneapolis. They moved to Ten Lake Township, Cass County, Minn.
He is survived by his wife; a son, James (Madonna), Blaine, Minn.; a daughter, Gayle French, Cass Lake; a daughter-in-law, Margaret French, Bemidji; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul (Emmalou), San Diego.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Services: A private memorial service will be held at a later date (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
Dean Workman
BORUP, Minn. -- Dean L. Workman, 83, Borup, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Dean LeRoy Workman was born March 7, 1917, the son of A.T. and Grace Workman, in Moweaqua, Ill. He attended school in Christian and Sangamon County, Ill. He attended the University of Illinois. He farmed with his family in Illinois. He moved to the Red River Valley in 1943. He married
Edith Baker on Dec. 27, 1943, in Bowling Green, Ken. They moved to Borup and managed the National Stock Farm. In 1945, he attended the Reppert School of Auctioning in Decatur, Ind. He conducted farm and livestock auctions and operated the family farm. In 1966, he developed the Jersey Blue Chip certification. From 1967 to 1971, he worked with Japan's Agricultural Ministry. He retired in 1980.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Ronald, Sacramento, Calif., and Larry (Denise), Medford, Ore.; five grandchildren; brothers, J.L and Errol, Chatham, Ill., and Gary, Borup; and a sister, Arrah Schumaker, Olney, Ill.
He was preceded in death by sons Roger and an infant.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. today, in the funeral home.
Burial: 1 p.m. Friday, Ada City cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Camp Grassick or the F-M Area Foundation.
