Eldon Halvorson
TWIN VALLEY, Minn. -- Eldon Halvorson, 72, Twin Valley, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in Dakota-Heartland Hospital, Fargo.
Eldon Halvorson was born June 23, 1928, the son of Ole and Gyda (Klemetson) Halvorson, in Twin Valley, where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps on Nov. 24, 1945. He was discharged April 30, 1947. He married
Betty Pederson in 1949 in Twin Valley. They lived in and near Twin Valley while he worked for the railroad. In the early 1960s, he went to Greenland and was a civilian employee for the Department of Defense for two years. He returned and went back to work for the railroad. He married
Carol Brakob in 1983. He retired in 1987.
He is survived by sons, Kim (Boni), Bismarck, and Terry, Hendrum, Minn.; daughters, Kathleen (Herb) Smith, Minneapolis, Michelle Halvorson, Twin Valley, and Katie Halvorson, Hendrum; two grandchildren; and a brother, Leo, Twin Valley.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rollin; and four brothers.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley.
Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. today, Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley.
Burial: Twin Valley Memorial Garden cemetery.
Lloyd Bergeron
ARGYLE, Minn. -- Lloyd Bergeron, 74, Argyle, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Ah-Gwah-Ching (Minn.) Nursing Home.
Lloyd Bergeron was born Jan. 16, 1926, the son of Peter and Eugenie (Riopelle) Bergeron, in Argyle. He lived in Argyle where he farmed. He lived in several places until moving to the Ah-Gwah-Ching Nursing Home.
He is survived by children, James and Kathy; a brother, Jerome; and a sister, Arlene Simmons.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Quanrud-DuBore Funeral Home, Warren.
Visitation: One hour before services.
Burial: St. Rose cemetery, Argyle.
Armand Vallee
FOSSTON, Minn. -- Armand Vallee, 88, Fosston, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at home.
Armand Robert Vallee was born Nov. 13, 1912, the son of John and Jenny (Billgos) Vallee, in San Francisco. He grew up in San Francisco and then moved to Ventura County of Los Angeles. He attended school in Santa Monica, Calif. He worked for a movie camera parts company and then as a machinist for Rockwell Industries in Canoga Park, Calif. He married
Geraldine Smith on Dec. 24, 1952, in Santa Monica. They lived in Santa Monica until he retired in 1980. They then moved to Fosston.
He is survived by his wife; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ruby, in New Jersey, and FiFi, Palmdale, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet; a son, Bob; a brother; and a sister.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home Chapel, Fosston.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the funeral chapel.
Burial: Storelvedalen cemetery, Winger, Minn.
Elsie Erickson
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Elsie Erickson, 85, Roseau, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at home.
Elsie Brandt was born Feb. 27, 1915, the daughter of Gustav and Caroline (Lisell) Brandt, in Malung, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Roy Erickson on Jan. 3, 1934, in Roseau. They lived in Falun Township, where they farmed. In the mid-1960s, they moved into Roseau. Roy Erickson died Jan. 15, 1996.
She is survived by children, Merilee "Mya" (DeWayne) Stuthard and Jaynes (Sally), both of Wasilla, Alaska, Sharolyn (Roger) Krause, Anchorage, Alaska, Tyrone (Niki), Asheville, N.C., R'Lynn "Waag" (Cathi), Warroad, Minn., and Garrett (Juleen), Roseau; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Lulu (Roy) Pearson, Brainerd, Minn., Shelia (Duane) Olson, Salol, Minn., and Crystal (Kenneth) Byfuglien, Roseau; and a brother, Leland (Isabel), Roseau.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Miller; a grandson; a great-grandchild; brothers, Adolf and Erhard; and sisters, Myrtle, Jane Anne, Darlene and Marjorie.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Visitation: One hour before services in the chapel.
Burial: Falun cemetery, Roseau.
Milton Nelson
BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Milton C. Nelson, 82, Baudette, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, in Altru Hospital.
Milton Carl Nelson was born Feb. 13, 1918, the son of Nels and Anna (Koehler) Nelson, in Sugar Loaf, Minn., where he attended school. He married
Mabel Corey on Oct. 30, 1939, in Winona, Minn. They lived in Baudette Township, Lake of the Woods County, Minn. He farmed and was a bartender for Baudette Municipal Liquor Store. In 1968, they sold the farm and moved to a home near Rainy River, Wabanica Township, Lake of the Woods County. In 1981, he retired. In 1996, they moved to Baudette.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Norman, North Liberty, Iowa, Chris (Judy), Esko, Minn., and Nels (Renee), Yorkton, Va.; a daughter, Eleanor (Michael) Cyganick, Lake Ariel, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Juanita Moore, Nelson, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a son, Carlton; and a sister, Gertrude Brown.
Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Baudette.
Burial: Elm Park cemetery, Baudette (Helgeson, Baudette).
Clarence Sundby
STEPHEN, Minn. -- Clarence E. Sundby, 75, Stephen, died of pancreatic cancer Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Minn.
Clarence Edwin Sundby was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Parker Township, Marshall County, Minn., where he attended school. He lived and farmed with his brothers on the family farm until retiring in 1990.
He is survived by his brothers, Carl and John, both of Stephen, and LeRoy (Sharon), Mansfield, Texas; sisters, Hazel Sundby and Mabel Sundby, both of Stephen, and Mary Ann (Orville) Gunderson, Grand Forks; and a sister-in-law, Lyla Sundby, Stephen.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, First Lutheran Church, Stephen.
Visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Stephen.
Marcus Horntvedt
BAUDETTE, Minn. -- Marcus B. Horntvedt, 79, Baudette, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at home.
Marcus Bernell Horntvedt was born Oct. 26, 1920, the son of Martin and Anna (Jevning) Horntvedt, in Wabanica Township, Lake of the Woods County, Minn., where he attended school. He graduated from high school in Crookston in 1938. He worked on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He returned home and married
Bernice Soderberg on March 14, 1948. They operated a dairy farm until 1980, when they turned the farm over to their son, Ken. They moved to Baudette Township. He worked on the construction of the Baudette Air Force Station from 1957 to 1958. He worked at Gamble's Hardware, Baudette from 1959 to 1964. From 1960 to 1987, he worked as a mill worker for Marvin Windows, Warroad, Minn. Bernice Horntvedt died in 1987.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth (Jody), Baudette; daughters, JeriLynn (Kenneth) Bruce, Tower, Minn., and Lois (George) Widman, Crookston; four grandchildren; a brother, Earl (Maida), Royal Oaks, Mich.; and a sister, Dorothy (Glenn) Reierson, Bloomington, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Irvin; and a sister, Mildred Horntvedt.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Wabanica Lutheran Church, Wabanica Township.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Helgeson Funeral Home, Baudette, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Wabanica Lutheran cemetery.
Military rites: Baudette American Legion V.F.W. Ceremonial Team.
