Verna Westberg, 87, of Hawley, MN, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Hawley Senior Living, Hawley, MN.

Verna Westberg was born on January 1, 1919 to Adolph and Anna (Carlson) Westberg on the family farm in rural Hawley, MN. She grew up and attended school in Hawley, graduating from Hawley High School. Verna was confirmed at the Hawley Lutheran Church on September 2, 1932. In the 1950's Verna worked at Johnson's Department Store. She retired in 1985. In 1986 Verna took a trip to Sweden, a trip that she never forgot and talked about numerous times since then. Verna was an active member of the Rebecca Lodge, Hawley Lutheran Church and the Hawley Happy Old Timers.

She is survived by one nephew, Stuart Westberg, Hawley, MN; two nieces, Francine (Kevin) Segrud, Rapid City, SD and Lori Ann (Jim) Miller, Columbus, OH; one grand-nephew, Kai Segrud, Rapid City, SD; two grand-nieces, Siri (Brian) Leech, Madison, WI, and Hannah Miller Columbus, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Loren and Willard Westburg.

John D. Kopp, 80

John D. Kopp, 80, Moorhead, MN, formerly Glyndon, MN, died on Monday, January 02, 2006, in Innovis Health, Fargo, ND.

John David Kopp was born on April 1, 1925, in Fairchild, Wisconsin, to Herbert and Lily (Phillips) Kopp. He grew up and attended school in Pepin, WI, graduating from Pepin High School. John married Connie Gilbery on November 4, 1944, at Camp Roberts, CA. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1944 until 1946, in the Philippines and Korea. Following his military service he lived in Alma, WI, Glyndon, MN, and San Rafael, CA, before moving back to Glyndon, MN, where he lived until 1992. He had worked as a carpenter and an operating engineer before opening his own business, Kopp Plumbing and Heating, in 1969. He retired in 1992 and spent his winters in Mesa, Arizona and his summers on Lee Lake near Hawley, MN. In 2002, they moved to Moorhead, MN. He had been a member of the Glyndon Lions Club.

John is survived by his wife, Connie, Moorhead, MN; two daughters, Linda Small, Bloomington, MN, and Mary (Cliff) Langerud, Barnesville, MN; four grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Langerud Petry, Clinton (Tracy Tschakert-Langerud) Langerud, Brandon Small and Garret Small; three great-grandchildren, Tate Petry, Katelynn Petry, and Mac Tschakert-Langerud.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arnold and Burton, and one sister, Kathryn Potter.

Raymond O. Ristad, 65
Died: Sunday, November 27, 2005, in his home in Moorhead, MN.
Raymond O. Ristad, 65, Moorhead, MN, was found dead in his home on Sunday, November 27, 2005.

Raymond was born on November 10, 1940 in Grand Forks, ND. He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks and then moved to Portland, Oregon, where he lived for 25 years. He married Beverly Thompson in 1970 at Portland, and they had a son Robert. They were later divorced. He married Pamela Anderson in 1983 in Portland, and they had a son Kirk. They were later divorced. Raymond moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1989. He worked all of his life as a concrete finisher and warehouse worker. He loved NDSU Women's Softball and often traveled to see their games.

Raymond is survived by two sons, Robert Ristad, Vancouver, WA, and Kirk Ristad, Lolo, MT; one brother, Duane Ristad, Sandy, OR; one sister, Gay Ristad, Tigard, OR; two grandchildren, Kendra and Bret; one niece Cassidy Ristad, Tigard, OR.

Gudrun M. "Goodie" Anderson, 96
Died: Saturday, October 01, 2005, in Moorhead Health Care Center, Moorhead, MN.
Goodie was born on May 28, 1909 to George and Marie Jacobson in Lake Park, MN. She grew up and attended school in Lake Park, MN. She married Viley Anderson in 1927. Viley passed away in 1977. She worked as a housekeeper for several families in Lake Park. In 1998 she moved to Hawley Manor and in 2003 entered Moorhead Healthcare.

She is survived by two sons, David Anderson, Fargo, ND and Marlan (Donna) Anderson, Moorhead, MN; one brother, Elvard Jacobson, Fort Wayne, IN; one sister, Alpha Wenthin, Hawley, MN; five grandchildren, Mary Anderson, Mark (Eileen) Anderson, Brad (Kay) Anderson, Sara (Mike) Olson, Shawn (Lynne) Anderson; twelve great grandchildren, Cam (Trina) Bercier, Vanessa Gunderson, Charles Anderson, Ellie Anderson, Jack Anderson, Maggie Anderson, Katie Anderson, Molly Anderson, Chelsea Anderson, Betsy Anderson, Megan Olson, and Amber Olson; three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Charles; three brothers, Trygve, Sigurd, and Thormod; three sisters, Constance, Hjordis, and Della

Olina B. Onstad, 100
Died: Friday, April 07, 2006, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.
Olina Onstad, 100, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, died on Friday, April 7, 2006 in the nursing home.

Olina B. Trontvet was born on September 24, 1905, in Thief River Falls, MN, to Paul and Sarah (Eiel) Trontvet. She graduated from the Lake Mills, Iowa High school. Olina married Pastor Carl Opsahl in 1926, in Lake Mills, Iowa. They lived in Lewistown, MT, for four years and Jewell, Iowa, for ten years. While Carl served in the Military Chaplaincy, she lived and raised her kids in Portland, ME, and Forest City, IA. They moved to Halstad, MN, in 1946 and then to Moorhead, MN, in 1956. Olina graduated Magna Cum Laude from Concordia College in Moorhead in 1966. Carl died in 1970. She married Pastor Peter Onstad in 1974 and he died in 1997. Olina was very active in Trinity Lutheran Church for all of the years that she lived in Moorhead.

She is survived by a son, Pastor Paul (Pastor Geri) Opsahl, Sterling, VA; a daughter, Mary (John) Hellerud, Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one stepson, Peter (Marty) Onstad, Burnsville, MN; step-daughter, Jeanne (Wayne) Hole, Fargo, ND; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, Pastor Carl Opsahl in 1970, and Pastor Peter Onstad, in 1997.

Freda "Ann" Hungate, 92

Freda "Ann" Hungate, 92, of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, August 06, 2005, in Moorhead Health Care Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Ann was born January 2, 1913 in Emerson, Manitoba, Canada, to William and Karolina (Drewitz) Langnaese. She grew up and attended school in Emerson. On October 5, 1938 Ann married Charles Hungate in Cavalier, ND. They made their home in Pembina, ND. Ann became a U.S. Citizen in 1942. They later relocated to Grand Forks, ND, then to Staples, MN for Charles's job. The retired to the Fargo area in 1971.

She is survived by one daughter, Elenore (Earl) Dovenmuehler, Moorhead; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

She is preceded in death by her husband Charles (March 8, 1984), her parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

Archie Maier, 89
Died: Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Archie was born on December 9, 1915 in Moorhead to Fred and Rose Maier. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead.

He married to Daisy Beth Moore and she passed away in 1937.

In November of 1938, he married Dorothy Milner in Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN, and they made their home in Moorhead. They moved to California in 1940, where he worked in the Naval Ship Yards on the Liberty Ships during World War II. After the war they returned to Moorhead where he farmed until 1953. They then purchased a farmstead in south Fargo, ND, where they operated a truck farm, growing berries and vegetables. They retired in 1990. Dorothy died on February 17, 1998.

He is survived by two sons, Archie Jr. (Sharon), Fargo, ND and Gary (Diane), Battle Lake, MN; one daughter, Nancy (Rodney) Hubbard, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Evelyn DeMoulin, Fairfield, CA and Ruth Veloza, Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Daisy, wife Dorothy, and nine brothers and sisters.

Willmer S. Erickson, 86
Died: Wednesday, April 12, 2006, in Seattle, WA.
Willmer S. Erickson, age 86, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in Seattle, WA. Willmer was born July 25, 1919 to John and Minnie Erickson in Lake Park, MN. He grew up and attended school there until the age of 17. When he was 21, he moved to Seattle, married Bertha Luthi in 1941, and remained in the Seattle area since.

Willmer was very prideful in his work and everything he did. He was a very social person and enjoyed the company of others. He loved to bowl and play golf in his free time, and continued to read, study, and learn for his own benefit.

Willmer was preceded in death by parents, John and Minnie; and brothers, Edwin (Alice), and Dean.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Karl) Seehorn of Seattle WA, Gloria (Rodney) Carriveau of Bremerton, WA; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Oren (Marian) Erickson of Moorhead; and sister-in-law Dolly Jetvig of Hawley, MN.

Leonette M. Koeplin, 87
Died: Friday, December 09, 2005, in Villa Maria Nursing Home, Fargo, ND.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Leonette Koeplin, Moorhead, Minnesota, will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead. Visitation will be for two hours before Mass at the Church on Tuesday. She passed into glory on December 9, 2005, at the age of 87, in the loving, compassionate and professional care of Villa Maria and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Leonette Margaret Parries was born on May 16, 1918, to Martin and Philma (Fischer) Parries in Fargo, North Dakota. Leonette attended the elementary schools of Horace Mann in Fargo, Mapleton, ND and St. Mary's in Fargo. She graduated high school from Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Dakota Agricultural College (N.D.S.U.) in 1939.

She married Marvin Peter Koeplin on July 6, 1940, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo. He died May 1, 2002, and was most lovingly missed by Leonette.

She taught classes and coached boys' basketball at Genesseo, North Dakota. She also taught at Shanley High School, in Fargo and St. Francis de Sales elementary school in Moorhead.

As an active community volunteer, she was a member and held multiple leadership positions in both Catholic Daughters and in the former St. Ansgar Hospital Auxiliary in Moorhead. She was a charter member of the Auxiliary, and in 1985 she received the first annual Sister Mary Joseph Award for numerous accomplishments in the Volunteer Program and Auxiliary.

She was the first Bookkeeper for KFME (P.B.S.) Television in Fargo.

She was an avid golfer and bridge player, a long-time member of the Moorhead Country Club, and loved to dance with Marv, her lifetime dance partner.

Leonette is survived by her children: Jon (Mary) Koeplin and Mark Koeplin, both of Glendale, Arizona, and Mary (James) Dickinson, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her brother Marlowe (Joan) Parries, Moorhead, and sister Betty Kenney, Edina, Minnesota.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Wayne Koeplin and his son Cary Michael Koeplin, and brother-in-law Joseph Kenney.
