Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Bourbon, Missouri where he remained throughout his lifetime. On August 25, 1949 he married Bernetta Jane Mercer and to this union two children were born. Oren was employed with Crawford Electric Co-op from where he reluctantly retired. He loved his job and often spoke of wishing he could return to work and expressed fondest memories of co-workers.

In 1959 he was born again in the Spirit of God and served as a Deacon at the Bourbon First Assembly of God for many years. God blessed him with the gift of teaching and in 1989 was recognized for thirty years of teaching Sunday school. His passion was Prophecy and he taught many and led them to a fuller understanding of God’s Word.

During his retirement, he established a small business as a master woodworker. Many in the area, as well as national and international patrons are fortunate to own products of his skill and expertise. His work was created with love and desire to please.

Oren was a man you’ll only meet once in a lifetime. A husband, father, grandfather who was the strength of the family became the rock the family was built upon. Yet the sweet gentleness of his love was the core of his indulgence. His concerns for others, one could sense as soon as you looked into his eyes. The love of God was always reflected on his face. He lived in the word of God in the love and infinite faithfulness of the Lord Jesus. He believed in prayer and that God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. The lips that uttered them may be closed in death, the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God. The prayers he uttered have outlived him but the promises he believed in remains, as he always will in our hearts.
