Michael Dapice

Michael John Dapice of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Monday, December 31, 2001 at the age of 62 years.

Mr. Dapice was born on October 13, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio to Inez Woods and the late John James Dapice. He was raised in Dayton and continued to reside there until 1981 when he moved to Arizona. On May 5, 1981 he was united in marriage to Patsy Marie Missey in Tucson, Arizona. “Harley,” as he was known by his family and close friends, worked as a die caster for the St. Clair Die Casting Company for over fifteen years, and retired from there due to a disability. He enjoyed motorcycles and was an avid sports fan, especially football. He will be remembered and cherished as a man who was upstanding, loving, caring, and devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Dapice, of the family home; five sons, Michael A. Dapice of Chillicothe, Ohio, John James Dapice of Lebanon, Ohio, Mike Dapice and wife, Shauna, of West Carrollton, Ohio, Carl Dapice of Waynesville, Ohio, and John Paul Dapice and wife, Jenny, of Sullivan; three daughters, Anna Gilliam and husband, Brad, of Crockett, Kentucky, Tina Rosenbalm and husband, Donnie, of Lebanon, Ohio, and Tonya Duncan and husband, Michael, of Rainsboro, Ohio; one stepson, John Missey and wife, Karin, of Cuba, Missouri; his mother, Inez Dapice of Kettering, Ohio; two brothers, Robert Dapice and wife, Charlotte, of Bonita Springs, Florida and Gary Dapice and wife, Kelly, of Kettering, Ohio; five sisters, Carol Gulley and husband, Ron, Joyce Golden, and Marilyn Russell, all of Kettering, Ohio, Cathy Barkmann of Fairborn, Ohio and Angie Shoffstall and husband, Tom, of Tucson, Arizona; seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his father, Mr. Dapice was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy, Jody Dapice.

Funeral services were conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Paul Gray officiating. Visitation was from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Maxine Myers

Maxine H. Myers of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at the age of 75 years.

Mrs. Myers was born on December 27, 1926 in Gary, West Virginia to Mack Henry and Pearl Lake (Christian) Allen. On May 16, 1948 she was united in marriage to Otis Lloyd Myers in Elbert, West Virginia. In June 1963 Maxine and her family moved to the Sullivan area. In addition to serving within the home as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, she worked as a clerk for several different variety stores of which one was the old Stovall store in Sullivan. Maxine also was employed by the U.S. postal service for four years. In 1995 Mr. Myers preceded her in death. She enjoyed writing, reading, spending time on the telephone with family and friends, and giving of her means to others who were in need. Maxine also attended the Cave Springs Baptist Church in Sullivan. She will be remembered and cherished as a very generous, “big-hearted” lady.

She is survived by two children, Lloyd Myers and his wife, Wanda, of Leasburg, Missouri and Pat Long of Houston, Texas; three stepsisters, Dorothy Montgomery, Thelma Brewster, and Margaret Anderson; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Myers was preceded in death by one sister, Pearl Lake Allen, one half-sister, Opal Allen, and two stepbrothers, Alfred and James Schrader.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Brian Dixon officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation hours were from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Alberta Ruth Myers

Alberta Ruth Myers of Sullivan passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at the age of 82 years.

On March 11, 1919 Mrs. Myers was born in Buffalo, Oklahoma to John and Alice (Byers) Franklin. She had lived her younger years in Oklahoma where she attended school. On October 9, 1941 she was married to Howard W. Myers at Guthrie, Oklahoma and to this union three children were born. In 1967 the family moved to St. Louis where Alberta was employed as a nurses aide in the health care industry, working in hospitals and nursing homes. In January of 1988 she moved to Sullivan where she had lived until her death. She was known as a devoted wife and mother her served her family and friends with love and faithfulness. Mrs. Myers was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She is survived by two sons Robert Myers of Sullivan and Roger Myers of Caseyville, Illinois, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren other relatives and friends. Along with her husband, and parents, Alberta was preceded in death by a daughter Glenda Dancy.

Graveside memorial funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2002 in Stanton Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Vernon D. “Jim” Scott

Vernon D. “Jim” Scott of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Friday, January 4, 2002 at the age of 77 years.

Mr. Scott was born on January 24, 1924 in Algire, Missouri (rural Sullivan) to G. Thomas and Maude Myrtle (Northcutt) Scott, and remained a lifelong resident of the rural Sullivan area. “Jim,” as he was known by his family and friends, graduated from the Sullivan High School. On June 11, 1949 he was joined in marriage to Virginia Gilcrease at the First Baptist Church in Sullivan, and to their union one son and three daughters were born. In addition to running the family farm, “Jim” worked as a skilled laborer on road construction projects for several years. He also was employed by the Pea Ridge Iron Mines as a millwright for nearly twenty years. “Jim” enjoyed leathercrafts, traveling, family vacations, and especially raising cattle and working on the family farm. He was a faithful member of the Maple Grove Baptist Church, and will be remembered and cherished as a compassionate man who was devoted to his family, his friends, and his church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Scott of Sullivan; one son, James Thomas Scott and wife, Barbara, of Sullivan; three daughters, Verna Faye Mercille and husband, Charles, of Potosi, Missouri, Vicki Lynn McGraw and husband, Bruce, and Deborah Kay Hennecke and husband, Bob, all of Sullivan; three brothers, George Scott of Sullivan, Eugene Scott and wife, Marie, of Granite City, Illinois and John D. Scott and wife, Jane, of Sullivan; two sisters, Geraldine Harman of Sullivan and Bertha Rinehardt and husband, Robert, of Glencoe, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Ina Koch and husband, Forrest; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scott was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Daisy and Betty Scott, and two brothers-in-law, Raymond and Raymond T. Harman.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Reverend Jeffrey W. Duncan officiating. Interment was in the Reynolds-Scott Cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2002 at the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Vernon D. Scott.

Carter W. Callahan

Carter W. Callahan of Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2002 at the age of 88 years.

Carter was born in the Hulsey community in Washington County near Sullivan, Missouri on January 22, 1913 to Edward and Rilla (Nortcutt) Callahan. He attended school in the Richwoods area, but, because of his father’s recurring health problems, the family moved into Sullivan where he attended school through the eighth grade. On June 12, 1937 he was married to Edna A. Woods at Marshfield, Missouri, and to this marriage one son was born. Carter was employed at the former International Shoe Company in both Sullivan and St. Clair, worked as a carpenter, drove a taxi, and later a school bus for the Sullivan Public School System. He was a member of the Sullivan Chapter of the Civil Air Patrol where he attained the rank of Captain before withdrawing from the unit. Carter lived most of his life, as most of us do, in pursuit of health and happiness. As a young man, he participated in the local sports of the area, those being fishing, gigging, and, of course, hunting squirrel, rabbit and deer. He took up motorcycling at an early age, and exchanged it later in life for the thrill of flying a plane.

He is survived by one son, Melvin Callahan and wife, Rose, of Henley, Missouri; one brother, Virgil Callahan and wife, Wanda, of Sullivan; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Callahan was preceded in death by one sister, Jessie Lueken.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. If desired, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Carter W. Callahan.

Madge Williams

Madge Williams of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Monday, January 7, 2002 at the age of 86 years.

Mrs. Williams was born in the Champion City area near Leslie, Missouri to the late Herman and Sarah Frances (Blankenship) Weirich. She attended school there until the 8th grade. She then came to Sullivan and became a waitress in the restaurant at the former Northside Hotel. She met her future husband, Reid Williams, in Sullivan and then on June 22, 1935 was married to him in Illinois. Madge and Reid made their home in Sullivan where Madge then became employed at the former Midwest Footwear Company and later retired from there. She was known as a loving mother and grandmother. She was a fun loving person who never knew a stranger. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and a member of First Baptist Church in Sullivan.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Williams and wife Karen of Cuba, Missouri and James Williams of Kansas City, Missouri, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents and husband, a brother, Virgil Weirich preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2002 from the chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Paul Gray officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to First Baptist Church in memory of Madge Williams.

Nannie R. Waller

Nannie R. Waller of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at the age of 75 years.

Mrs. Waller was born on September 9, 1926 in Kennett, Missouri to Harvey and Oudia (Mitchell) Collins. On January 3, 1942 she was joined in marriage to William M. Waller at Doniphan, Missouri, and to their union twelve children were born. Throughout her adult years, Nannie served her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. In 1990 she moved to the Sullivan area. Nannie enjoyed going for rides in the country, listening to country western music, trips to Branson, and anything to do with “Elvis.” She found her greatest pleasure, however, in visiting and spending time with her children and family. Nannie was a follower of the Pentecostal faith, and will be remembered and cherished as a very strong, yet loving woman.

She is survived by four sons, Rickey Waller and wife, Debbie, of Granite City, Illinois, Jerry Waller and wife, Alfrieda, and Kenny Waller, all of Sullivan, and Leon Waller and wife, Ruth, of St. Louis; five daughters, Marie Logan and husband, Leon, of Florissant, Missouri, Joyce Piekarski and husband, Bernard, of Sullivan, Oudia Waller of Centralia, Illinois, Debbie Bonney and husband, George, of Bourbon, Missouri, and Annette Waller of Granite City, Illinois; five brothers, Harry Jameson and wife, Phyllis, and Charles, Larry, Richard, and James Collins; one sister, Helen Collins; one daughter-in-law, Liz Tranatta; a special friend, Robert Piekarski; twenty-nine grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Waller was preceded in death by two sons, William James Waller and George Waller, one daughter, Mary Ann Waller, three brothers, Junior, Edward, and Robert Collins, and three sisters, Annie McBride, Jessie Campbell, and Peggy Jameson.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2002 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Rev. Harry F. Jameson officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. Visitation for Nannie R. Waller was from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2002 at the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Benjamin Graddy

Benjamin L. Graddy of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Friday, February 8, 2002 at the age of 69 years.

Mr. Graddy was born on April 12, 1932 at Bourbon, Missouri to Rufus Allen and Ruth Jane (Pratt) Graddy. He lived the majority of his life in the Bourbon area and honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded a bronze star and several commendations and citations for his service. Mr. Graddy was a self-employed auto body repairman in the Bourbon area for many years. On June 29, 1996 he was married to Carole Sue Stepp in Bourbon. He was known as a gentle man who loved to garden, cut wood and enjoyed nature. He was a loving father, step-father and brother and found great delight in his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Graddy of the family home, four sons and daughters-in-law; Roger and Barb Graddy of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mark and Trish Graddy of Farmington, New Mexico, Larry and Kelly Graddy of Bourbon, Missouri, Randy and Sherri Graddy of Farmington, New, Mexico, two daughters and sons-in-law; Debbie and Kenny Borgmeyer of Union, Missouri, Denise and David Cannon of Bourbon, Missouri; four step-sons, Rusty Moore and wife Christina of Pawnee, Illinois, Craig Moore and wife Linda of Shumway, Illinois, Gary Moore of Diego Garcia British Island and Kevin Moore and wife Shelia of Effingham, Illinois; one step-daughter, Dee Ann Gordon of Beecher City, Illinois; six brothers, Ronnie Graddy of Bourbon, Missouri, Harold Graddy and wife Mildred of Sullivan, Missouri, Don Graddy and wife Faye of Geiserville, California, Cecil Graddy, Dean Graddy and wife Pearl, Ed Graddy and wife Kathy all of Bourbon, Missouri; five sisters, Dorothy Mae Whittacher and husband Earnest of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Mildred Hurst of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Evelyn Schmidt of Sullivan, Missouri, Hilda Phillips of Sullivan and Hazel Belle and husband Ronnie of Peoria, Illinois; 28 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2002 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Wendle Starnes officiating. Interment with full military honors was in Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri. Those who desire may make memorials to BJC Hospice.

Betty J. Parker

Betty J. Parker of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at the age of 67 years.

Mrs. Parker was born on March 20, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri to Otis Earl and Margaret Eva (Tutterrow) Cross. Early in her life she moved to Sullivan, and has remained a lifelong resident of the Sullivan area. On January 28, 1949 she was united in marriage to James H. Parker in Sullivan. Throughout her adult years Betty served her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. On December 11, 2000 Mr. Parker preceded her in death. Betty found pleasure in crocheting, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Meramec Valley Baptist Church of Sullivan.

She is survived by two sons, Marvin Parker and wife, Toni, of Bourbon, Missouri and Carl Parker and wife, Sandy, of Sullivan; one daughter, Sharon Jeter and husband, Ron, of Springfield, Illinois; one brother, Walter Cross of Collinsville, Illinois; one sister, Corene Doughton of Cedar Hill, Missouri; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchilren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2002 from the Meramec Valley Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Richard Wiliams officiating. Interment was in Cave Spring Cemetery. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at Meramec Valley Baptist Church in Sullivan. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan.
