Robert Lee Lenear

Robert Lee Lenear of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2001 at the age of 42 years.

Lee, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Miami, Florida to Robert F. Lenear and Gertha (Marshall) Ryjowski. He was raised and attended school in the Bonne Terre and Potosi areas. On October 28, 1976 Lee enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served his country for twenty years, retiring on June 30, 1998 and attaining the rank of Ouartermaster First Class. While serving his country, Lee was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Pistol and Rifle Expert Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal, along with many others. On August 24, 1996 Lee was married to Carrie Stabener at Maple Grove Baptist Church in Sullivan. He was a caring person who liked to joke around and tease. Lee was a hard worker who was always happy and full of life. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and skydiving. Lee attended the New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan, and was described as a wonderful husband, dad, son, brother, and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Lenear, three children, Robby Lenear, and Jessica and Mariah Breslich, all of Bourbon; his parents, Edward and Gertha Ryjowski of Dora, Missouri; his parents-in-law, Lawrence and Elizabeth Kline of Bourbon; five brothers, Rick Marshall of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Clayton Lenear of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, Bradley Lenear of Richmond, Virginia, Frank White and wife, Pam of Amarillo, Texas, and James White and wife, Cherry of Reeds Springs, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 from the New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Alva Enloe and Pastor Charles Idleman officiating. Interment was in Smith Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family in memory of Robert Lee Lenear.

Farris E. Sappington

Farris E. Sappington of Bourbon, Missouri passed away at his home on Thursday, June 14, 2001 at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 1 day.

Mr. Sappington was born February 13, 1911 at Anaconda, Missouri to the late Eber and Della (Farris) Sappington. He was raised on a farm on the Meramec River in the Hinch area near Bourbon. On June 10, 1935 he was married to Birdie Mathews at Steelville, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Mr. Sappington was a well known cattleman and farmer in the Bourbon and Leasburg areas and also provided custom bailing for many farms. He found pleasure in the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His family was dear to him as was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mr. Sappington was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church since 1950 and was a Deacon, church treasurer, former Sunday School Superintendent, and trustee of the church and cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Birdie of the home, two sons, Paul Sappington and wife Diane of Bourbon, Bud Sappington and wife Norma of St. Charles, Missouri, one daughter, Darlene Voss and husband William of Florissant, Missouri, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, two sisters-in-law, Allie and Viola Sappington, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Mr. Sappington was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Clark and Raymond Sappington and a sister-in-law, Vera.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2001 from Crossroads Baptist Church, Leasburg, Missouri with Pastor Bobby Higgins officiating. Interment was in Crossroads Cemetery. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Virgie French

Virgie French of Stanton, Missouri passed away on Monday, June 11, 2001 at the age of 79 years.

Mrs. French was born on July 1, 1921 in Dixon, Missouri to the late Leonard and Mittie (McKnolly) Jones. After being raised in the Dixon area, she went to work during World War II at Emerson Electric in St. Louis. While working at Emerson, Virgie met her husband-to-be, Stanley Paul French. On July 12, 1952 they were joined in marriage at Herculaneum, Missouri and to their union one daughter was born. While making their home in St. Louis, Virgie worked for many years in the housekeeping department of Deaconess Hospital, which is now known as Forest Park Hospital. On August 28, 1988 she moved with her husband to Stanton, Missouri. Virgie enjoyed driving and traveling, especially to the state of Alaska. She also found pleasure in country western music and a yearly banana split. As a young woman, she attended churches of the Pentecostal faith and was baptized as a professing Christian. Mrs. French will be remembered and cherished as a dedicated and hard worker, as well as being a woman who was very gentle and easygoing.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley French and her daughter, Linda French, both of Stanton; one sister, Leatha Creech of Overland, Missouri; a special niece, Peggy Graf of Florissant, Missouri; a special cousin, Addie Lawson of Dixon, Missouri; other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on Thursday, June 14, 2001. If desired, contributions may be made to BJC Hospice in memory of Mrs. Virgie French.

Flora Mae Head

Flora Mae Head of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 8, 2001 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, at the age of 65 years, 4 months and 27 days.

Mrs. Head was born January 11, 1936 at Topeka, Kansas to Oscar Ralph and Laura Bell (Rison) Freeze. She was raised in that area until the age of 13 when the family moved to Missouri. Mrs. Head enjoyed making crochet dolls and doilies for her children, grandchildren and friends. She also found pleasure in playing Bingo. She was a loving mother who will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by four sons; Mark Gumpenberger and wife Kaye, Danny and Arliss Gumpenberger and Charles Head all of Bourbon, Missouri., three daughters; Brenda J. Stringer, Georgia King and Brenda D. Neff and husband Clayton, all of Bourbon, 11 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A son, Arnold Lee Gumpenberger preceded Mrs. Head in death as did a sister, Hazel Miller.

Graveside funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2001 in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Chapel, Bourbon, Missouri.

Joseph J. Timlin

Joseph J. Timlin of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2001 at the age of 89 years.

Mr. Timlin was born on March 19, 1912 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late William and Bertha (Sanford) Timlin. On November 28, 1936 he was joined in holy matrimony to Helen Sayer at the Holy Trinity Parish in St. Louis, and to their union two children were born. In 1958 they moved with their family to the Sullivan area. Joseph was a member of Boilermakers Local 27 in St. Louis, and, as such, built and repaired boilers for over 25 years. After moving to Sullivan, he and his wife both became members of the Holy Martyrs of Japan Church. Joseph enjoyed fishing, hunting, welding, building things, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered and cherished as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and as a happy man who enjoyed life and possessed a positive outlook.

He is survived by one son, Patrick Timlin and wife, Wanda of Sullivan; two sisters, Sister Mary Timlin and Marie Doyle, both of St. Louis; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Timlin was preceded in death by one son, William Timlin and one sister, Agnes Finn.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2001 from the Holy Martyrs of Japan Church with Reverend Donald Carey officiating. Interment was in the Holy Martyrs of Japan Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the Holy Martyrs of Japan Cemetery in memory of Mr. Joseph Timlin. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan.

Hanne Modad

Hanne Modad of Stanton, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 at the age of 80 years.

Mrs. Modad was born on July 3, 1920 in Amioun, Lebanon to the late Yerges and Bahea (Shahedde) Chammas. She was raised in Amioun, and on January 11, 1942 was joined in marriage to Guillermo Modad. In 1954 she migrated with her husband and children to Argentina. In 1996 Mrs. Modad and her husband moved permanently to the United States, and have resided in Stanton since that time. Hanne’s primary work was that of serving her family as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, and knitting. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Sullivan, and, as an extremely dedicated Christian, spent her final earthly breath reciting the 23rd Psalm. She will be remembered and cherished as a very loving and caring woman, who sought to teach her children and others to always love and not to hate.

She is survived by her husband, Guillermo Modad of Stanton; three sons, Carlos Modad and wife, Lizzette of Argentina, Pastor Miled Modad and wife, Patricia of Indianapolis, Indiana and Dr. Musa Modad and wife, Ellen of Stanton; three daughters, Aida Posse and husband, Hugo and May Canalis and husband, Victor, all of Argentina and Ana Marie Ludi and husband, Dr. Guillermo Ludi of Sullivan, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Modad was preceded in death by one son, Miguel Modad.

Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001 from the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Sullivan with Pastor Miled Modad officiating. Interment was in the Stanton Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the Community Service of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Sullivan in memory of Mrs. Hanne Modad. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Rosetta Bohnenkamp

Matilda Rosetta Bohnenkamp was born on February 8, 1917 at Doniphan Missouri, and passed away at Harrisonburg, Virginia on June 19, 2001 at the age of 84 years. She was the youngest of twelve children of Augustus and Martha (Johnson) Caldwell.

Rosetta, as her family and friends knew her, was ten years old when her father died tragically from poison gas while digging a well. She and her mother moved to St. Louis where she grew up and later married William Bockewitz. This union was blessed with two sons, Carl Edward and William Paul Bockewitz. Her husband, Bill, entered the U.S. Army in World War II and was killed in France on November 11, 1944. Tragedy seemed to be a part of Rosetta’s life. On February 28, 1967 her son, Marine Captain Carl Bockewitz was killed in Vietnam.

With her two small sons, Rosetta moved to Sullivan, Missouri in 1948 and went to work at the Ramsey Corporation. It was there that she met Wilbur Bohnenkamp, to whom she was married on May 3, 1953. They were the parents of Peggy Susan and William Douglas. Wilbur and Rosetta lived on the farm near Bourbon, Missouri until he passed away on November 9, 1982 as a result of a farming accident.

Throughout her life Rosetta’s concern was for better education for every one. It was that interest which prompted her to become the librarian at the Bourbon Library. She took an interest in her children’s education, volunteered as a room mother, and was president of the parents’ organization, the Mothers Club. In 1963 she was elected to the R-1 Board of Education, being one of the first women to serve on the board. At the age of 53 she enrolled at East Central College and received an Associate of Arts Degree in 1973, which led to a career in the Sullivan school system.

Rosetta was active in the community as well. She was instrumental in starting the Agape Thrift Shop in Bourbon and worked there until 1997. She received many honors and much appreciation for her community work. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. Rosetta will be remembered by her ready smile, and her happy disposition, despite the sadness in her life.

Rosetta is survived by two sons, William Paul Bockewitz and wife, Karen of Quincy, Illinois and William Douglas Bohnenkamp and wife, Pam of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter, Peggy Bell and husband, Don of Staunton, Virginia; six grandchildren, Paul Bockewitz, Julie Huseman, Ali and Zachary Bell, and Jessie and Ingrid Bohnenkamp; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001 from the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon with Reverend Leota Moore and Pastor Connie Gallagher officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri. Those who desire may make memorials to the Bourbon Ecumenical Christian Thrift Shop or to the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon.

Norma Carollo

Norma E. Carollo of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001 at the age of 83 years.

Mrs. Carollo was born October 9, 1917 at Ankeny, Iowa to Marion and Adele (DeNati) Berti. At an early age, her family moved to the Sullivan, Missouri area where she helped work on the family farm. She attended Sullivan High School and was elected president of the senior class of 1938. Mrs. Carollo excelled in sports, especially Volleyball. In the early 1990’s she was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Sullivan High School. On December 29, 1946 she was married to Pete F. Carollo at Saint Anthony Catholic Church and to this marriage a son, Jack, was born. Together, she and her husband owned and operated Carollo’s Turkey Farm at Stanton, Missouri. In the early 1970’s she retired from the family business. Mrs. Carollo had an extreme interest in sports of all kinds especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Hockey and football where always a topic for discussion during their respective seasons. She was a member of Saint Anthony Parish in Sullivan.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Kim Carollo of Sullivan, one brother, Norman Berti of Sullivan and one sister, Vera Bell of Sullivan, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Mrs. Carollo was preceded in death by her husband Pete in June of 1991 and by four brothers, Fred, Bryan, Louis and Victor Berti and one sister Lena Krist.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis. Visitation for Mrs. Norma Carollo will be from 4:30 until 9 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2001 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Pastor Wayne E. Moore

Pastor Wayne E. Moore of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001 at the age of 78 years. Pastor Moore was born July 17, 1922 at Louisville, Colorado to Edward and Beatrice (Rule) Moore. He was raised in Missouri and in 1960 moved to the Bourbon, Missouri area from St. Louis. He was self-employed as a carpenter many years but later was called into the ministry and became a Pastor. His ministry extended 27 years – 17 of which were faithfully served at Spring Bluff Baptist Church. On November 21, 1938 he married his beloved, Ruth P. Harman and to this marriage four children were born. Pastor Moore honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy and later with the National Guard. His true service however, was to the Lord and after his Pastorate at Spring Bluff, he became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bourbon.

He is survived by two sons, Theodore and Christopher Moore both of Bourbon, two daughters, Virginia Lynch of Leadwood, Missouri and Patricia Richardson of Dillard, Missouri, one brother, Robert Moore of Bourbon, 18 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Pastor Moore was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and by a sister, Wilma Patrick.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Devin Haus officiating. Interment will be in Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation for Pastor Wayne Moore will be from 10 am until 12 noon on Tuesday from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
