Frankie K. Floyd Eldridge
(May 21, 1948 - January 6, 2016)
Funeral services for Mrs. Frankie K Floyd Eldridge of Kilmichael will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, at Kilmichael Baptist Church, with burial following in Friendship cemetery in Kilmichael. Rev. Gary Jackson will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Friday, January 8, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Eldridge, 67, died at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson on Wednesday, January 6.
She was born icon in Winona on May 21, 1948, to the late James Franklin and Jettie Mae King Floyd. She was a graduate of Mississippi State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and retired from Kilmichael Elementary School, where she taught for 38 years. Mrs. Eldridge was a member of Kilmichael Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was a former Girl Scout leader in Kilmichael, and touched countless lives, far and near, through school, church, and scouting. Mrs. Eldridge was devoted to her family and was an avid reader and Mississippi State fan.
She was especially involved in, and very supportive of, her grandchildren's activities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Floyd Riddell.
Mrs. Eldridge is survived by her husband of 46 years, David Eldridge of Kilmichael; daughter, Dina Eldridge Smith (Tony) of New Madison, Ohio; son, Dave Eldridge (Carla) of Kilmichael; sisters, Shirley Floyd Swindle of Magee and Betty Floyd Austin (Charles) of Kilmichael; four grandchildren, Brittany Eldridge, Braeden Eldridge, Kirkland Bradley, and Johna Beavers; many nieces and nephews; and an expected great-grandson, Paxton Poole.
Pallbearers will be Ron Wood, Ryan Wood, Michael Eldridge, Jeff Eldridge, Adam Eldridge, and Clay Eldridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kilmichael Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Friendship cemetery Fund.

Beth Mortimer Brister
(March 14, 1916 - May 29, 2016)
Beth Mortimer Brister, 100, born icon March 14, 1916, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2016 at Indywood Assisted Living in Cleveland, Mississippi. Beth and her twin sister, Ruth, were the second set of twins born icon to their parents, William Henry and Bessie Bruce Holmes Mortimer of the Bethlehem Community near Winona, Mississippi.
She and her siblings grew up in a loving family attending elementary classes in the much loved Bethlehem community and church at Bethlehem United Methodist Church which her family had helped establish.
After graduation from high school and Holmes Community College, Beth attended and graduated from Delta State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in Seminary, Mississippi teaching first grade. On February 28, 1942 she married icon the love of her life, Milton Esley Brister, of Kilmichael, Mississippi. She and Milton spent the early years of their marriage in various locations throughout the United States while Milton served in the U. S. Army Air Corps returning to Kilmichael to settle and raise their family. Together they became involved in the community and in their church, Kilmichael Baptist, where they both served in many positions of leadership. After her children began school, Beth returned to the classroom at Kilmichael Elementary where she continued to touch the lives of the many children who passed through her third grade class.
Nana, as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren, was a devout Christian and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend always putting others first.
Her life reflected one of the virtuous woman as found in Proverbs 31.
Her husband of sixty-seven years preceded her in death on December 4, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Charles Turner Mortimer and Will Kelly Mortimer of Winona, and Lagrone Mortimer of Kilmichael; her twin sisters, Allene Mortimer Hamrick and Olene Mortimer of Winona, and her identical twin, Ruth Mortimer Cooper, “Sister”, of Water Valley.
Survivors are her daughter, Betty Brister Ellis (Lamar) of Kilmichael and her son, Michael Mortimer Brister (Caryn) of Cleveland. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Bridgett Ellis Sessions (Joelee) of Brandon, Shelley Ellis Hunger (James) and Lori Ellis Bowering (Todd) both of Winona, Philip Alexander Ellis (Tish) of Smyrna, Tennessee, Naron Brister Remillard (Jason) of Starkville, and Collins Brister of Cleveland. Also surviving are eleven great grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held at 2:30 on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Kilmichael Baptist Church with Reverend Gary Jackson officiating. Visitation will be held preceding the service starting at 1:00. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Methodist cemetery near Winona where she will be laid to rest by her husband and other family members.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff at Indywood for the love and kindness shown to Nana while in their care and also to Grace Hospice for their attention and care during her declining days.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons: Philip Ellis, Collins Brister, Cody Toth, Dillon Toth, Garrett Toth, and Bryce Bowering.

Lerlene Bailey Mallett
(March 22, 1913 - October 21, 2010)
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Lerlene Bailey Mallett of Ridgeland, formerly of Winona, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, at Oakwood cemetery in Winona. Rev. Larry Creel will officiate the services.
Mrs. Mallett died on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at her residence in Ridgeland. She was 97 years old.
Mrs. Mallett was the daughter of the late Dr. Reuben and Effie Ellis Bailey, and the widow of the late Hunter Claud Mallett. She was a homemaker, former hairdresser, and retired employee of Screw Conveyor Corp. in Winona. She liked to travel, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed meeting new people. She was a member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church in Winona. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Inez Bailey Howard; and four brothers, Al Bailey, Ferris Bailey, Ennis Bailey, and Pete Bailey.
Survivors include one niece, Elizabeth "Beth" Bailey of Memphis; three nephews, Lamar Howard (Linda) of Ridgeland, Eddy Howard of Winona, Ennis "Chip" Bailey, Jr., (Laura Beth) of Philadelphia; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Moore Memorial United Methodist Church Family Life Center Fund, 201 Magnolia, Winona, MS 38967.

Cherie "ReeRee" Peeples
(December 5, 1948 - September 8, 2011)
Funeral services for Cherie "ReeRee" Peeples of Duck Hill, formerly of Greenville, are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, at Moore Memorial United Methodist Church in Winona, with burial following in the Oakwood cemetery in Winona. Rev. Anita Pringle, assisted by Rev. Rusty Keen, will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at the Moore Memorial United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
Mrs. Peeples died on Thursday, September 8, at Hospice Ministry in Ridgeland. She was 62 years old.
Mrs. Peeples was a kindergarten teacher for 37 years. She was a member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church, the Open Door Sunday School Class, the Winona Garden Club, and Friends of the Winona Library. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Clemmons Foresman.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Peeples of Duck Hill; two sons, Tim Peeples and his wife, Kristi, of Oxford, and Matt Peeples and his wife, Marlana, of Rochelle, IL; one sister, Lynn Foresman of Kilmichael; one brother, Mike Foresman of Senatobia; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Steve Osso, Jack Henderson, Pat Sullivan, Jerry Flowers, Danny Fielder, and Tom Jones.

Jimmy Franks Dean
(June 23, 1939 - November 30, 2014)
Funeral services for Jimmy Franks Dean of Stewart will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in the Reed's Chapel Baptist Church cemetery near Stewart. Rev. Max Blackwelder will officiate the services.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 2, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Dean, 75, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus on Sunday, November 30. He was born icon in Webster County on June 23, 1939, to the late Luther and Margaret Green Dean. He was a retired log truck driver and a member of Union Baptist Church near Stewart.
Mr. Dean is survived by his wife, Evelyn Dean of Stewart; two daughters, Pam Laney of Kilmichael and Brandi Orr of Stewart; two sons, Bruce Dean of Stewart and Phillip Dean of Stewart; two sisters, Elaine Mosley of Stewart and Margaret Ishee of Eupora; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Roger Green, Billy Ray Cummings, Robert Bright, Carl Bright, Eric Yeatman, and Heath Yeatman. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Lane and Timmy Green.

James M. Gerrish
(August 29, 1934 - April 30, 2015)
A graveside service for James M. Gerrish of Vaiden will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, at Hopewell cemetery near Vaiden. Rev. Leon Holly will officiate the service.
Mr. Gerrish, 80, died of heart failure at Winona Manor in Winona on Thursday, April 30.
Mr. Gerrish was born icon in the Enon Community in Carroll County on August 29, 1934, to the late Earnest S. and Opal Browning Gerrish. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and was a Mason. He was a member of Sandoval Baptist Church in Sandoval, Illinois. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Myrl McBride; and a brother, Harry Gerrish.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise T. Gerrish of Vaiden; two daughters, Debra J. Gerrish of Vaiden and Jimmie Lynn Gerrish of Pascgoula; one son, James M. Gerrish Jr. (Ginny) of Moss Point; three granddaughters, Sunny, Hope, and Faith Gerrish, and one grandson, Trey Gerrish, all of Moss Point; one sister, Josephine Strange; and three brothers, Henry Gerrish, Vernon Gerrish, and Ernie Gerrish.

Joe Weldon Armstrong
(May 15, 1930 - January 3, 2016)
Joe Weldon Armstrong, 85, of Vaiden died at Grace Health and Rehab in Grenada on Sunday, January 3. Mr. Armstrong was born icon in Merkel, Texas, on May 15, 1930, to the late Arnold Joseph and Mary Lillian Raines Armstrong. He graduated from Trent High School and attended Abilene Christian College. He was a 1954 graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in Dairy Production from the College of Agriculture. While there, he was president of the Dairy Club and a member of the Dairy Cattle Judging team.
After graduation, Mr. Armstrong was County Agricultural Agent at Yates Center, Kansas.
He then served as Dairy Specialist with the University of Tennessee in West, TN. Later, he was Southeast Regional Manager for Curtiss Breeding Service and worked with NBI, an exotic breeding service. He owned and operated the family business, Dixie Dairy Sales, in Tennessee and Mississippi, for the past fifty years. Mr. Armstrong was a member and deacon of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro, TN; and attended Vaiden Shongalo and Blackmonton Presbyterian Churches. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, C. Ancel Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife, A. Joyce Spillmann Armstrong of Vaiden; daughter, Cynthia L. Welch (Richard) of Meridian; sons, David W. Armstrong (Debrah) of Alachua, FL, Stephen E. Armstrong (Rochelle) of Vaiden, and Timothy Armstrong (Bobbie) of Vaiden; sister, Dora Greenway (George) of Sulphur Springs, TX; brother, Leroy Armstrong (Carolyn) of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Mildred Armstrong of Manhattan, KS; granddaughters, Elizabeth Armstrong of Ft. Smith, AR, and Katherine Eberle (Sean) of El Paso, TX; and grandsons, Alex Armstrong (Misty) of Vaiden, Mark Armstrong of Vaiden, James Armstrong of Vaiden, and Jamie Welch of Meridian. Other surviving family members are Emil Edward Spillmann (Beverly) of San Antonio, TX, C. Douglas Spillmann (Jane) of Lockhart, TX, Richard Spillmann (Lexine) of Buda, TX, Charlene Spillmann of Kyle, TX, Tommy Sanders (Barbara) of Brashear, TX; and many nieces and nephews who always wanted to go fishing with Uncle Joe. Mr. Armstrong is also survived by many special friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in McEachern cemetery near Vaiden. Rev. Philip McRae and Rev. Rick Boyette will officiate the services. Visitation will be Thursday, January 7, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tom Bell, Ernest Flint, John Green Jr., Alex Armstrong, James Armstrong, and Jamie Welch. Honorary pallbearer will be Mark Armstrong.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

John Worthy Taylor
(December 15, 1926 - May 27, 2016)
Graveside services for John Worthy Taylor of Duck Hill were held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, at Eupora City cemetery in Eupora.
Mr. Taylor, 89, passed away on Friday, May 27, at University Medical Center in Grenada.
He was born icon in Eupora on December 15, 1926, to Daniel M. and Laura Bell Worthy Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a retired veteran of the US Army.
He is survived by his son, Steve A. Taylor, of California; one brother, Bob Taylor; and his caregiver, Sue Wiggins of Grenada. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lorine M. Taylor, and one sister.

Erin Locke Chesteen
(June 15, 1918 - March 21, 2008)
Graveside services for Erin Locke Chesteen of Natchez, formerly of Kilmichael, will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Friendship cemetery in Kilmichael, with burial following. Mr. Dan Beardain will officiate the services. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at Lee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chesteen died of heart complications on Friday, March 21, at Natchez Community Hospital in Natchez. She was 89.
Mrs. Chesteen was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Artie Locke and a retired bookkeeper. In addtion to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Chesteen; brother, Lawrence M. Locke; and nephew, Sidney Locke. She is survived by her son, Tim G. Chesteen; nephews, Benjamin Locke, Richard Brown, and Buzz Biggers; nieces, Barbara Brown and Janet Biggers; and several cousins.
Mrs. Chesteen attended USM and MSCW, and worked for Hughes Aircraft Corporation during World War II as assistant to the Engineering Group.
She married icon Fred C. Chesteen, a career serviceman, and lived abroad for ten years in various European cities. She returned to her hometown and retired from the Bank of Kilmichael, spending her retirement years traveling and pursuing her genealogy interest. Her genealogy research resulted in eleven entries to the registry for Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Natchez Rosalie Chapter of the DAR and an honorary member of the Thomas Rodney Chapter of the DAR in Winona.
Her recent travels included a trip to Ireland, home to numerous of her ancestors; and to Alaska, the New England seaboard, Mexico, Niagara Falls, Canada, the USS North Carolina, and two Caribbean cruises.
These trips were enjoyed with longtime friend, Joseph Paine, and others.
Her life was that of a strong Christian woman who placed her family first and will be remembered as complete and lived to the fullest.

Henry Eugene Massey
(September 24, 1926 - May 19, 2008)
Funeral arrangements for Mr. Henry Massey are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, at Crape Creek Baptist Church near Stewart, with burial following in the church cemetery. Mr. Nathan Wright will officiate the service at Crape Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 20, from 5:00 until 10:00 p.m., at Crape Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Massey died of heart failure on Monday, May 19, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Massey was the son of the late Bud Massey and the late Ida Massey Manus; and the widower of the late Nora Lucille Massey. He was a retired farmer and sawmill operator and a member of Crape Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Frances White of Eupora and Eva Joyce Mooney of Stewart; one son, Eugene Massey of Stewart; one brother, Robert Louis Massey of Louisville; two half-sisters, Betty Weeks of Weir and Meral Nail of Stewart; one half-brother, Carl Manus, Jr., of Eupora; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
